When a relative of mine was very thin as a result of cancer and chemo, the doctors told her to eat anything she wanted in order to gain weight. Sadly, most of what she chose was sugar-based. It did not work. Her cancer raged while her body continued to get more depleted. It would have been so much better for her had they…

@macchiatto I really hope it works for you! My son was a Prilosec junkie and I got him started on the salt. He was surprised and very happy that it's working for him. Those meds are terrible, and pink salt is a really nice fix.

I've been using Himalayan salt crystals for acid reflux. I put a large crystal or two in my mouth, say, 20 min before I eat. Sometimes I drink a little water, sometimes not. After dinner if I need to, i let a couple more dissolve in my mouth. The salt gets your digestive acids working in anticipation of eating, so they're…

I use a cast iron skillet for cooking most of my meat, and I've read that iron from the skillet leaches into food. Is this something to worry about? I'm one of those "older persons".

I've been zero carb for 10 weeks. I've had bits of cheese now and then, but mostly just eat meat, some eggs, and drink water. I feel much better. After an initial quick drop in weight, I'm down to about 1 lb a month. I'm assuming that lots of healing is going on in my body and hopefully after that's done more weight loss…

You look healthier! You're attractive either way, but much healthier now. Yay for you!

Bump! Lots of good information here.

What a wonderful accomplishment! Congratulations!!

Various kinds. Yes on genetic testing; not related, supposedly.

I wonder whether there would be a variance of macros according to the age of a person. I'm guessing that an older woman like me would stick to the lowest end of the macro scale. I've been watching my carbs so intently, I haven't paid much attention to protein and lately have been only hitting the 50s in protein grams. I…

FYI ---this product https://amazon.com/NeilMed-Sinus-Rinse-Complete-Sachets/dp/B000RDZFZ0 really helps relieve sinus problems and colds. I use it at the first sniffle and the cold never develops. It's a huge help for sinus stuffiness/headaches.

Pan grilled flatiron steak with sauteed baby portobello mushrooms and hwc sauce. Green beans, which I felt no need to eat.

^^^yeah, like my already telling myself NO to the fresh strawberry cream cheese pie in my fridge that my husband and sons will eat tonight. Full bore sugar. I felt guilty making it, but that's what they requested, so....Happy Valentine's Day to them.

Is being a carnivore and doing IF a good mix? Or isn't IF needed if you're strictly a carnivore?

Regarding keto/low carb and cataracts, you may be interested to read this: https://ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3939735/ I have cataracts and glaucoma, so pretty excited that I could see a benefit to my eyes of the WOE!

I'm so sorry for your migraine troubles! My adult son has had them and we've been to doctors, headache specialists, and he's been through lots of tests and strong meds that I believe created even more migraines as well as other very difficult side effects. In my online searches I found Preventa Migraine…

I'm 70 and have a long history of eating very low fat/calories in efforts to lose weight per doctor's instruction. My (former) doc suggested that I use HCG and I prob would have done it if I had had the $$$. When I do IF, I sometimes am full at slightly over 500 cals of nutrient dense food for the day. Too bad the HCG…

Those tonsiliths mentioned in the last link smell awful, and the bad breath doesn't go away until they're cleared out. Vigorous, daily tongue brushing helps prevent them.

As a result of what I've read on this forum, I started using Natural Calm a few days ago. I like it b/c I can adjust the level of magnesium according to how my body responds. Seems easier than using capsules. I got the plain kind and don't mind the taste at all. I've been reading how crucial magnesium is to the digestive…

I'm in. I'm going to continue w/ keto and IF. Will floss, waterpik, and brush teeth after dinner to keep me from snacking. No way do I want to do that process over again.

On Jan 1 I got back on track after months of discouraged disaster that led to a 20 lb gain. By combining keto and IF, I've gone from 234.4 to 224.4 as of today. A good start for me, being 70 yrs old.

Really helpful, thanks so much!

@Foamroller, would you please explain what you mean by "energy deficit?" Does that mean exercise or food---or both? I did a 24 hour fast and ended up being full after eating a dinner of 510 calories (meat, olive oil and brocc/cauli). But no exercise. ;) I do an 18 hour fast most days, but gave 24 hrs a try. It really went…

Welcome back! You're not the first to make a comeback; good for you!

Earlier this week I read this from Dr. Naiman: "No breakfast, lighter lunch, and larger dinner also maximizes the body’s natural shifts between sympathetic (“fight or flight”) and parasympathetic (“rest and digest”) nervous system tone, with higher alertness and activation from sympathetic tone during the day while…

Thanks so much, @KnitOrMiss. I found the threads and they're very helpful. You certainly do have a wealth of knowledge, and you so generously share it!

I've been learning a lot from dietdoctor.com and eating LCHF pretty strictly for a month. I have always eaten mostly real foods, so my adjustments have been to eliminate foods rather than adding anything new. I don't shy away from fat on meat, or butter/olive oil for cooking, but I'm not adding fat to coffee or having fat…

So great---that IS great news! I'm looking forward to shocking my dr in 5 months. :)

For a lot of years I've told various doctors that it seemed like I ought to be able to live off the 'fat of the land' because of my morbid obesity. They would chuckle a bit and give me the eat-small-meals-several-times-a-day-exercise-more lecture. Well, turns out I wasn't so wrong, after all. The concept of "If your body…
