  • Except you said carbs are addictive without specification of what types of carbs. I do notice the classical strawmans argument where you ignored the rest of my post. Would that be because foods high in processed carbs are typically also high in saturated fat?

  • Really? I have never heard of people being addicted to cauliflower or spinach. Foods people crave are typically high in carbs AND saturated fats. A mixture of these two taste bloody good. Coincidence?

  • I became overweight because I ate too much food FULLSTOP. The sorts of foods I ate was irrelevant because weight gain is about calories in versus calories out. The sorts of foods you eat are to do with health much more so than weight. People have become overweight on a keto diet, a vegan diet, a low-fat diet, a 'clean'…

  • Why can't you fit a slice of bread into a diet where you are eating 100 grams carbs a day? You seem to just have a mentality that bread is evil when it can easily be incorporated into a well balanced diet which hits all nutritional recommendations.
in Keto Comment by Lillymoo01 March 2020
  • Or keep the bread if it is something you enjoy and something you know you will crave if you don't have it. The best way of losing weight is the one that you can adhere to long term, well into maintenance. It isn't just about losing weight but how to keep that weight off indefinitely once you achieve your goal. Don't make…

  • Possibly both MFP and the gym machines overestimate. As far as walking goes do you have your watch (or whatever you use) synced with MFP? If so some will find it reasonably accurate with calories given but others will find inaccuracies either side. If it isn't synced you may be better off having that day to day walking as…
  • I knew that this was a regular purchase for your sporting club and fully agree that the hand sanitizer is what makes the most sense. In saying that 1 large bottle should be well and truly enough for the average household as this will give a few months supply.
  • Wrong info .... opps!
  • Not only are exercise calories overestimated, but it is often the case that what you are logging food wise is underestimated. Eating back 1/2 to 3/4's caters for this logging inaccuracy. You make an excellent point of getting 4-6 weeks worth of data and adjusting the amount after that.
  • I don't understand this water thing. If you rely on bottled water for your drinking water supply it makes sense to always have a few weeks supply in case of emergency and top this up as you go along. If you were really paranoid about losing your water supply (which is only really likely as a result of a natural disaster…
  • I can not see how this is beneficial for long term health. You may feel fine now but I suspect that won't be the case down the track. Please for your future health make an appointment with a dietitian to find a sustainable and healthy way to lose weight.
  • Why? There is nothing balanced about a carnivore diet when most foods are eliminated. I can not for the life of me see how this kind of eating is sustainable and even come close to leading to optimum health.
  • These aren't my words. If you open the link the source is there.
  • I say without a doubt that 1200 is too low, regardless of her stats. Spoken from someone who is 48 and below 5 foot. There is no way I would have been able to find it sustainable eating less than 1200 calories a day plus 3/4's of my exercise calories. I still lost at that amount so there would be very few females adults…
  • I'm a doctor and an Infectious Diseases Specialist. I've been at this for more than 20 years seeing sick patients on a daily basis. I have worked in inner city hospitals and in the poorest slums of Africa. HIV-AIDS, Hepatitis,TB, SARS, Measles, Shingles, Whooping cough, Diphtheria...there is little I haven't been exposed…
  • She will be right. If checked by the doctor there would be no temperature and you can simply say that something went down the wrong way! I have just returned from overseas and while in transit it was amazing how much extra room a cough from someone I was travelling with gave.
  • In this situation couldn't you just rely on online grocery shopping with instructions to leave it at the door rather than enter the house? Or get a friend/neighbour/relative to do your shopping for you? There are much better ways of handling this than buying a years supply of rice, tinned goods, toilet paper and hand…
  • In all seriousness, if the world did run out of toilet paper supplies (which is extremely unlikely), I have plenty of old cloth nappies, flannels etc that can be used instead. Not ideal but certainly not the end of the world. We can survive such conditions.
  • I lost most of my weight without a food scale or logging. I just made sure I was eating less and moving more. It was all mindfulness with eating and portion control. It was only towards the end when there is very little wriggle room that I joined here and invested in scales. For this reason, I am an advocate that if what…
  • It depends on you and how it makes you feel and react. If you are a numbers girl and are well aware that most of this loss is from lack of waste and water in your system and you will be fine seeing it going up once you recover then log it. It may be helpful to add a note to this if possible so looking back you know why the…
  • This is exactly what I was going to say. The slower the loss, the less muscle you will also lose. You should also be doing a progressive resistance training program if you aren't already.
  • I've maintained my weight for almost 3 years and can't see a time when I can stop tracking in the foreseeable future. I accept that my weight will continue to fluctuate up and down for many different reasons so don't have a goal weight but a goal range. Once my weight falls outside of this range of several kilograms I will…
  • I spent most of my life overweight. To me, saying it was genetic would be an excuse for my lifestyle choices. Simply put, I ate too much and rarely exercised. I was the one in my family that hated sport of any kind. I ate away my emotions instead of using healthy coping strategies. I craved foods that were full of sugar,…
  • What I eat more of: Vegetables - much more variety too Protein - chicken, turkey, eggs, seafood, greek yoghurt Nuts Dark Chocolate What I eat less of: Carbs & fats - Rice, pasta, pizza, bread, biscuits and other baked goods, fries and crisps Milk chocolate (can't even stand the taste of it now) Most importantly, I changed…
  • I agree. Although there is a small percentage of outliers, most are simply in denial that they are either overweight or underweight. They simply are not at that point of accepting the truth. That, or they are so used to seeing overweight that they don't actually know what a normal, healthy weight looks like anymore. Edited…
  • Calories are king for me. If I find 2 different brands that have similar calories I will lean towards the one with less salt and sugar though, not that it really makes any difference with weight loss.
  • Some foods may speed up metabolism by the tiniest of amounts. I'm talking about a few extra calories burned at the most. It would be much more effective to go for a 5-minute walk instead.
  • You heard incorrectly. IF can make it easier for some to stay within their calorie allotment as it suppresses their appetite but fasting will not cause you to burn more calories, nor does it lower insulin (which doesn't need lowering if you are not diabetic or insulin resistant anyway). To lose weight you have to eat fewer…
  • I do this on days when it is too hot or cold to walk outside. It does annoy me when people stand still on the escalators though. That is valuable steps being lost.
