  • I've seen that before. With one person, it was most of their daily calories.
  • Thanks for sharing this!
  • A good addition to vegetables is toasted sesame oil. When I'm sprinkling seasonings on, I sometimes spray on olive oil spray - the kind with air as a propellant. It adds flavor and helps other seasonings adhere. By the way, they make pump sprayers for oil. You could use one to spritz your favorite oil on vegetables.
  • I suppose people could brush their teeth or thoroughly rinse their mouths right after drinking an acidic drink to prevent demineralization, but most probably won't or can't.

  • Just a few other foods to consider: Nonfat cottage cheese - quick and easy and a good source of protein. I've found quite a lot of variation in flavor and texture among brands, so if someone doesn't like one brand, they might love a different one. Air-popped popcorn - relatively few calories for its volume compared with…
  • Personally, I think labeling certain foods "healthy" could be motivating. Not only are you eating something you like, but - added bonus - it's actively improving your health. Or, it's functioning as a substitute for something else that would interfere with meeting your health goals. Some people have ingrained negative…
  • Not limited to diet soda, but any acidic drink can demineralize tooth enamel and lead to dental damage or disease if consumed too often.

  • I was on vacation and knew there were going to be some local foods I wanted to try that were pretty high-calorie. I wasn't going to try to lose weight during that time, but I didn't want to come back heavier than when I left. What worked for me was sharing those treats with someone else. It worked - I didn't gain any…
  • Your community might also have no-cost pet therapy programs that allow you to interact with trained therapy animals. I don't know if that would fit the bill, but you might consider asking your therapist about it and whether they know of a program near you.
  • Just wanted to add, when it comes to dishes like spaghetti sauce and chili, you can add in other vegetables if you want to, but you don't have to think of it as sneaking. Finely chopped or cooked and mashed aromatic vegetables like carrots, onions, celery, garlic, peppers, fresh herbs, etc. are commonly used to flavor and…
  • If you aren't seeing a physical therapist or some other kind of physical trainer, maybe ask your doctor about it? Safe exercise is a great idea, even apart from weight management. You might also ask your doctor, physical therapist, etc. what specific exercises you can do. They might be able to suggest things that work for…
  • Cooking your own healthy food, and finding it yummy is a really great breakthrough! For my money, it's one of the best things you can do for weight loss and overall health. Eating yummy food is much more sustainable than dutifully eating "healthy" food you're not excited about. And being able to make your own food gives…
  • Congratulations on the good work, and on your progress. Those are some important and good developments! I also want to commend you for continuing to post what you are doing and how you are feeling. It's inspiring for us. Just wanted to share something that helped me. I notice you mention what you "can have". For me, it's…
  • I add nonfat milk to my oatmeal. You could add it to the cooking water, or pour it on top of the already-cooked oatmeal. To boost the protein at breakfast and avoid mid-morning hunger, I also have some nonfat cottage cheese. Different brands of cottage cheese taste different to me, but I've found a couple that I like. It's…
  • There's at least one "volume eaters" thread that you might find useful and/or interesting. Among other things, it may be helpful to know you're not the only one. :) https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10563959/volume-eaters-thread
  • I do. It helps me both with calories and a healthy diet to have some food ready to eat or put into my lunch bag. I'm also guaranteed to have food that I like.

  • I guess it depends on the particular fruit or vegetable. With some of the more calorie-dense ones, it would be pretty easy to gain weight if you overdid them. For me, eating plenty of non-starchy vegetables and some fruit makes it easier to lose weight, and I feel better too.
  • I'm just feeling good today!
  • For a lot of people, food controls us instead of the other way around. Being able to make deliberate food choices you couldn't or didn't make before is a great NSV.
  • I just wanted to commend you for signing up for that cooking class! I think it will pay off for you in so many ways, including: You get to eat better quality food You get to make food the way you like it You may learn to enjoy new foods You may learn about new ingredients, so grocery shopping is more fun and less daunting…
  • This morning, I climbed the stairs while my mind was occupied with other things. Only after I got to the top did I realize I'd just climbed three flights of stairs without even noticing it.
  • This is just my impression, having never tried any of their products, but they all seem like expensive flavored goo. For those who've tried them, are any of them worth the money?
  • If it was soup, I would measure the volume instead of weighing it. Then you can measure your servings by volume and it should work. Or, if you're the only one eating the dish and aren't concerned about being precise each day, you can estimate the total number of servings, and log them as you eat them. When you finish the…
