  • Hi all, I'm shooting for 1200/day. Over the last year, I've actually gained 3 lbs! : ( My issue is that I was actually eating WAY more - particularly fats - because I wasn't measuring. I started measuring and I'm like, "THAT'S a tablespoon???" Wake up call. So, I'm working on it. Here's my snag. I hate meat. I'm working on…
  • My thanks to all of you! You've given me some really good ideas. Indian is my absolutely favorite cuisine. I think I just tend to gravitate towards eating too much of things that aren't great for me - fried chicken, samosas, naan. I can eat all those things but they can't be the star. I need to incorporate more veggies and…
  • I'm finding that I feel I need to do it perfectly or not at all. That's a fatal flaw when it comes to this stuff. I'm going to screw up. I'm going to fall off the wagon - repeatedly. I'm going to be disappointed. I'm going to hit obstacles. The thing is to keep going. This past week I've fallen off the wagon after a…
  • Thank you so much! Terrific links. I will speak with the nutritionist soon as I am confused on calories. I may be measuring wrong as one of the links suggests, but I must be eating more calories than I'm recording. Looking into different exercise as well. I LOVE Pickleball but my body isn't really interested in working…

  • Soups are my thing. Pea soup is easiest. Rinse a cup of split peas, add 4 cups of water and 1 - 2 tablespoons of chicken bullion and bring to a boil. Then reduce to simmer. Stir it every 15 minutes or so - simmer for about 90 minutes. Yum. Another soup is a beef barley. I cook the barley separately - just follow the…
  • As to recipes - weight watchers has some good cookbooks.
  • The things that fill me up the most: Breakfast - 1/4 cup of granola with a cup of blueberries and soy milk. Lunch - weirdly enough, summer rolls (rice paper wrapped around boiled shrimp, veggies and rice noodles) with peanut sauce. Dinner - pea soup made very thick (like a dip) with baked pita chips and veggies.
  • I do a cup of blueberries with 1/2 cup of soy milk (eaten like cereal) and an ounce of nuts. Or I have a piece of whole grain bread with peanut butter and just fruit jelly. Other ideas - an apple with peanut butter, a cutie orange with nuts. When I want a treat (granted - very little nutrition), I have graham crackers and…
  • I think our bodies have a wisdom. The first thing I do is to look at what's healthiest. If I wanted to get to the weight I was when I was 30 (I'm in my 50's), I'd need to lose 40 pounds! So that was my original goal. But in speaking with my doctor, she told me I was actually quite underweight when I was 30 and to shoot for…
  • I don't know where you are in terms of fitness, but the mistake I made was to jump in and want to do it all in one day. I'd work out hard for a few weeks, get injured and need to be out for weeks. Then I'd hit it hard, injure myself... I belong to my local rec center because it's less "gym-y" and the people are like me and…
  • I was a total sugar addict and wound up getting really sick. I tried to quit so many times and could never get it to stick. I could quit eating sugar but was miserable and then would just give up and give in. I finally found a free online program that worked beautifully. It's been about fifteen years and yes, I still like…
