  • @fitzmonkey13 I've actually gotten a job as a house cleaner, which is a workout in and of itself, so I haven't had the energy to intentionally workout. I sweat for about 5 hours per day cleaning.
  • @fitzmonkey13 Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely try those.
  • Intuitive eating, when really paying attention to satiety cues, has been helpful for many trying to lose weight. However, very few people are accustomed to being this attuned to hunger cues/fullness cues. Hence calorie counting as mainstream among those looking to lose weight. For children, I think intuitive and healthy…
  • @annaskiski Yes, thank you for explaining! That's exactly what I was trying to say.
  • @Calimom10 So sorry to hear about this! I've struggled with bulimia and binge eating, and know the kind of detrimental effects that can come from people in authority telling young children to lose weight and be hyper-vigilant about calorie intake. I would be talking to the principal about this...
  • @Timshel_ @rhiawiz57 Diets like these have often caused people to feel faint, lower overall productivity, and lead to irritability. If someone faints from too little calories on a diet like this, it's a dangerous diet. It may not be experienced by everyone this way, but for a few people, it can be dangerous, hence why I…
  • @lutzsher Well said there! Fad diets like this, even if done only for one week, are very dangerous and unhealthy, and only serve to impede weight loss goals.
  • @Timshel_ Agreed, and thanks for pointing that out about the other threads! I've encouraged the user I was responding to, to do the same, because this thread wasn't originally started to get into these sorts of specifics.
  • @DeficitDuchess The body does that because it isn't getting calories from outside food, so it begins to consume muscle to get calories, hence what many have called "starvation mode". The body is starving for nutrients and calories, and when it doesn't receive them, it tries to get those same things from other sources,…
  • @DeficitDuchess It seems like you're dismissing lots of good science and mainstream ideas, as well as my personal experiences with witnessing this phenomenon....Perhaps we should move this part of the discussion to the "Debate: Health & Fitness" section in the forums? I don't want to take over the OP's thread...
  • @smantha32 Well said! I pointed all this out because the original OP wanted to know about what people thought about a restricted diet, like the cabbage soup diet, and if continued for a while, even one week, it is possible to go into starvation mode fairly quickly.
  • @DeficitDuchess If you read the article, it explains more about how starvation mode is real. It's an evolutionary adaptation, and as someone who has been in and out of eating disorder treatment programs and talked with countless doctors and nutritionists, they'll all tell you that when the body doesn't receive enough…
  • @DeficitDuchess Starvation mode is not a myth. Here's an article for more information: http://www.livestrong.com/article/264810-weight-loss-starvation-mode/
  • @MsDivine831 The cabbage soup diet, or any diet where there is severe limits on any one food group(s), is highly dangerous, and can lead to hypoglycemia, nausea, dizziness, hunger pangs, fatigue, and weakness due to nutritional deficiencies. Much like the "Master Cleanse"/"Lemonade Diet", I'd say it's a really unhealthy…
  • @N0703989 Hey there! I've definitely struggled with food issues in the past, as well as presently, so I understand the issue. Can I ask how you use food as a punishment? I've never heard of that before...I used to be bulimic, so maybe that's what you're referring to? Other than my past with an eating disorder, now I…
  • @grantpace33 Agreed! Marijuana often for a few people helps push themselves harder than they would without partaking of it. It certainly does for me! I get energized from working out when stoned, and find it to be a healthy addition to my life. And I do consume responsibly, where it is legal in my state.
  • @denversillygoose Well said!
  • @caroldavison332 Very true! It doesn't sound like this person is going to be drug tested, but yes, best to consume when you're not going to be tested. Just be safe and have fun. Also, for the original person who asked the question, if you do accidentally take too much, remember that it isn't a fun feeling, but it'll pass,…
  • This is also a good website for more information on edibles from a reliable and weed-positive place: https://www.leafly.com/news/cannabis-101/medibles-101-everything-youve-ever-wanted-to-know-about-edibles
  • There are calories in any edible product, and they should label that most of the time on the package itself. For example, I'm in a state where recreational marijuana is legal, and for one 10mg brownie by ZootBites, it is listed as 120 calories. If you're unsure about the calories because they are not listed on the package,…
  • Heh, funny suggestions from some of you guys there! It's good to have a sense of humor when it comes to health and nutrition sometimes, and hey, everyone needs an indulgence from time to time.
  • @StarBrightStarBright Thanks for the suggestions about brushing teeth and chewing gum! And eating a low calorie meal if that doesn't work totally helps too. :)
  • @katorihanzo Awesome, thanks for the low calorie tips and tricks there. There's something about flavored seltzer that really helps keep things at bay!
  • @aninn1126 Totally hear you! I live with my parents, and they always have junk around, so escaping it isn't easy.
  • @TheRealSlim_Shelly Thanks for the tips! I think sometimes I do let too much time go by from one meal to the next, so that's something I can work on.
  • @Raynne413 Cool, I'll try playing a video game next time! Thanks!
  • @Raynne413 Thanks so much for sharing your story! I've struggled in the past with bulimia, so I know what you mean when you talk about fighting the urge to somehow make up for a binge the next day. I don't have an eating disorder now, and don't engage in unhealthy compensation at all, but I've been there, and know what…
  • @ACHynson Thanks for all the tips! Those are great suggestions! I'm actually an animal rights activist and would like to go vegan, but I'm living at home, with my parents, so that complicates things a bit, unfortunately. But it's cool that you're vegan, and I hope to be able to go vegan as well eventually!
  • @zachbonner_ Lol, it was healthy though! And it really was good, heh. Healthy food can still taste delicious!
