  • If you’re able, I’d get a 2nd opinion. Orthopedic surgery is like buying a new car shop around. PS I’m coming from the angle of a physical therapist that sees lots of patients post (and sometimes pre) op. Losing weight will definitely help your post op results though. Keep up the awesome work, pain and all, it’s quite…
  • Yes anterior is through the front, less chance of a hip dislocation.
  • Pre-op: Pool exercises and the stationary bike, plus get some strengthening exercises from a physical therapist or orthopedic, it’ll make a huge difference if your muscles are strong going into surgery. Will your surgeon have you on restrictions after your hip replacement? I’d look for a surgeon that performs anterior hip…
  • I started slow, got a watch that tracked my steps and just started increasing my walking (you’d be amazed at how much that alone can help). You don’t need to go to the gym every day to lose weight. Sometimes I race my 2 year old in the house so I can get extra steps, when I talk on the phone I paced the house, if I…
  • I started with a C25K and that was based off time when I completed that I started training for a 10 mile race and the training program was based around mileage. I felt that by focusing on distances it made me want to run a little faster (so I could get it over with lol). The more mileage I do, the faster I’ve been getting.…
  • Most often the first 2-2.5 miles are a challenge and then finally I start to feel good and enjoy myself, until about mile 7 then it’s hit or miss. Sometimes I stay feeling good and other times it falls apart again.
  • I’m having the same exact problem! I changed my MFP settings the other day to maintenance because I’ve hit my weight goal but now MFP isn’t logging my bike rides or runs. I’m only getting credit for my step count which was low today because I went for an hour long bike ride. I’m glad to see I’m not the only one but I don’t…
  • After I had my son I had the worse back pain, it would have me in tears to get in/out of my car for days. The episodes would be almost weekly and last a couple days. I kept chalking it up to having had a baby but as he was slowly approaching 2 years old I knew that my weight and lack of inactivity was to blame. I've lost…
  • I really like that, thank you. I've found that a simple "Thank you" doesn't turn the attention away, it's almost like I need a closing line after. lol
  • I do just say "Thank you" the problem is some people continue on and I get really uncomfortable talking about it. Someone mentioned saying just a little more which I may use. Like "Thank you, it's a challenge each day, but it's been worth it." Something like that... thanks for your reply.
  • Anyone struggle with how to respond when people tell you that you look good? I'm trying to figure out what it is that makes me feel uncomfortable. When I had lost some weight but was still bigger than most of my friends I loved sharing my progress but now I'm smaller than most of my friends and I feel really uncomfortable…
  • If you are on Facebook check out the group "Nutrition Made Easier" it's ran by a bunch of men that are evidence based nutritionists and they might be able to give you some science based ideas of how to eat. I have a wheat allergy and I don't do a lot of dairy but I do some. Feel free to add me. In my opinion (I do have…
  • I've consulted with many evidence based nutritionists during my weight loss journey and the general consensus is to start with just eating within your calorie goal, once you master that you can adjust your macros. The suggestion I was given is change your protein percentage so that you are eating 0.8-1 gram of protein per…
  • Oh and fish is super low calories for lots of protein...
  • Lately I've been having egg whites and deli meat for breakfast, low calories but loads of protein, morning snack is a Greek yogurt (look at labels the ones I get are 15g protein for 120cal some are much less protein. Then lunch is usually a salad and chicken (you could do tuna or salmon too) then an afternoon protein bar…
  • I love this post. I'm less than 10 pounds from my goal weight and my husband and I have been talking about having another child. I'm all for it and excited when we finally decide to try but I'm a little scared to go back to where I was after having my first. I actually didn't gain a lot of weight post partum with him and I…
  • Wow! We are very close!

  • Hi! I'm the mom of a 2 year old and I've been on MFP since February I've lost 30 pounds so far which is almost 10 pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight. I have another 12ish to meet my ultimate goal. It's possible to get fit and get your body back just focus on what you can do today and try to stay positive. I took lots of…
  • Congratulations what an amazing accomplishment! I'm following behind you. 10k is my ultimate goal. I'm at a 30 pound loss (12 more to go) and I can run 27 minutes (2.6 miles) so far! Thanks for the inspiration!
  • For example mine are set at 35% protein, 40% carbs and 25% fats.
  • If you want to lose fat and not muscle it is suggested to adjust your protein percentage so that you are getting 0.8-1 gram of protein per pound of body weight and then just adjust carbs and fat down to make it 100%.
  • I'm in the same boat. 11 pounds left to go and the slow down in loss derails my motivation some days. I'm on week 7 or 8 in my 5K training made it 2.4 miles today. Ultimate goal is to run a 10k but I will be happy to run non stop for 40 minutes, hopefully that will help my calorie deficit too!
  • I've been logging and exercising for 4 months. Down about 30 pounds. I'm able to run 2.5 miles without stopping which is better than the 0.5 mile I use to run. All my clothes fit so it takes me less time to get out the door these days, in fact a lot of my favorite clothes are almost too big. I went from a size 12 down to a…
  • If you can afford one, get a watch with a HR monitor to better gauge your calorie burn. You can get a rough estimate by adding your activity minutes directly into MFP but most say that the calorie burn can be off by a lot. You're already in a healthy weight range so in order to lose weight (if that's your goal) you will…
  • I could chat with you all day about gluten free ideas. I have a wheat allergy and have been eating primarily gluten free for over 7 years now. I've tried just about ever brand on the market, some taste like cardboard and other brands are amazing. Where do you live? I'm in the US. I don't buy a lot of processed foods…
  • As others have said. Yes you will lose weight as long as you are in a calorie deficit but I bet you want to lose fat not muscle right? In order to not lose muscle you need to be eating about 0.8 -1 gram of protein per pound of body weight, that's hard to do on a junk food diet.
  • I really love this post. I do not have a diagnosed mental health issue (well unless I've been diagnosed as a codependent maybe). I have been and continue to be in a 12 step program for this and I've learned that I've used food to stuff my feelings. There have been studies regarding sugar as an addictive chemical. It makes…
  • My basic education and consults with nutritionists are this: in order to lose weight you must eat less calories than you burn (ok that's the basic), don't eat less than 1200 calories on a regular basis because the human body needs this to survive and function, now for macros if you are trying to lose fat (not muscle) then…
