So long as you're getting adequate fats and protein your macros can fall where they lie (this will be based on total calories, not a ratio).

IMO- anecdotally i find 40%c/30%p/30%f works for most people to reach the above goal.

Whatever works best for you. I do fine with the default percentages.

The defaults are fine, they are based on US general recommendations.

    The defaults are 50C/30F/20P

If you want to lose fat and not muscle it is suggested to adjust your protein percentage so that you are getting 0.8-1 gram of protein per pound of body weight and then just adjust carbs and fat down to make it 100%.

For example mine are set at 35% protein, 40% carbs and 25% fats.

Probably exactly why you shouldn't go with them

That would give you 100g of protein for 2,000 calories.

And it's a general recommendation for someone who does not exercise or in a calorie deficit.

If the ratio makes you happy, do that. Mine has a tendency to be 50% carb, 20-25% protein and 25-30% fat. But some days it's more like 35C/25P/40F and that's fine too.

The only one I pay attention to is protein (try to get 85-100g daily) and I let carbs and fat do their own thing.

I have mine set at 40/30/30 C/P/F. Not that i ever hit those numbers perfectly. I'm usually over in Protein, slightly over in fat and under it in carbs.

Senator George McGovern of a wheat-producing state influenced the USDA to recommend that all Americans get 50% of their calories from carbs. Wheat is a carb and Sen. McGovern knew that if gullible Americans obeyed the USDA recommendations his voters would be most pleased.

That said, @shmotzy, you will do well to log your food, eat most of the calories MFP allows you to, and seek to be satisfied with whatever macros seem to work best for you. For each of the macros, a portion of the population proclaims their best satiety with it. Find yours.
