Cravings are like stray cats. If you feed them they will keep coming back. If you don't they will go away.

It was starting to cause me problems, like sleep apnea and high blood pressure, and also was getting hard to do simple things like gardening.

I needed to lose 37kg to get out of the obese category (from 141kg/186cm age 65 male). I've lost 17kg, so almost half way. This has taken a tad over three months. Expecting the remaining 20kg to be much slower. Exactly my experience. I do 16 hours a day, sometimes more. It really helps maintain the calorie deficit and its…

When you take a bath you can see things you couldn't see before.

Google is your friend. Try "ketosis". Obviously it doesn't happen to everyone. It's really not anything that sugar free gum can't fix. While I'm here I'll just say that I am very reticent to post in this place because there is always someone who will suggest that you are wrong, or lying, or making it up. It's worse than…

It's like the bottom of a birdcage. It's well documented.

Just to put your 1800-2000 calories into context, I'm a 65 year old male 186cm/currently 129kg, down from 141kg in 2 months. I walk often and cycle often as well. I fast 16 hrs a day and generally consume 1500 calories/day, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less. You can tell when you're burning fat from the taste in…

I've done OK with fasting 16 hours a day, 8pm to midday. Basically it makes it easier to maintain a calorie deficit.

Realising I had sleep apnea.

The stats given in the original post suggest a BMI of just on 26, but the pic looks closer to 33 or so.

It's not so much alcohol that's the problem for me, its the fact that it gives a free pass to lots of other calorie-dense junk foods.

4kg in my first week of logging on MFP. From 141kg to 137kg. I also stopped drinking at the same time, so it was mostly water. It settled down to about 1kg a week after that.

It happens well before you hit your goal weight. I don't know of any way of preventing it but if someone does I'd like to know too! It does shrink back somewhat over time if you're lucky.

When I cycle, I use a Polar heart rate monitor. It gives values that are typically about half to 2/3rds of what MFP estimates. 300-375 per hour is the norm for me if I'm going for it. Generally I average 20-22km/h on a moderately hilly route generally ~40km. This amounts to about 80 calories per 5km at best (my weight is…

Meat pies and sausage rolls. I love 'em.

11lbs in the first week would be mostly water. I lost 4kg in the first week when I started but I needed to lose about 60kg (132lbs) overall. It has moderated quite substantially in the 6 months since then, but I'm still going. It does appear you are not eating enough.

Since I've been walking daily my best was 27,256 steps or 22.7km. Just a few days ago. I plan to get past 30,000 steps one day soon.

Walking is tremendous, but it's hard to get accurate calorie burn figures. MFP you can't believe. Fitbit you can't believe. So do be careful about eating back the walking calories.

Shift work is an absolute killer. The best thing I ever did was get off it by retiring early. My job was rotating shifts, all nights wouldn't have been so bad but they won't let you do all nights because of Fatigue Management. Anyway, I know this doesn't help much if you have to do it, but shift work is a factor in weight…

Fitbit Alta HR gives me silly amounts of calorie burn for walking, but I've found it to be quite close to the mark for cycling. I've also got a Polar monitor (with a chest strap) and the Fitbit generally gives well over double the figure of the Polar for walks, but very close for bike rides. Fitbit inform me that if you…

Just don't do it again for at least a month. Two months preferably. Maybe you should ban yourself from ice cream and pizza. Crispbread seems OK. I occasionally have days when I hit the turps, but it takes a week to get back to the weight I was so they are becoming fewer and further between.

Basmati rice has 1.4 calories per gram (cooked). Boiled potatoes have 1.1 calories per gram. A medium hen egg has 70 calories. They are all good foods, but except for the egg you need to weigh them to be sure of the amount.

Maybe the OP is considering the Atkins diet, a diet of nothing but protein and water. Apparently it works, if you can manage to endure it for any period of time, but the consequences of consuming nothing but protein might be a bit difficult to live with. Running a calorie deficit definitely sounds more sustainable.

There's always an exception I suppose. SIXTEEN HUNDRED calories in a 28 gram bag of corn chips? They should be feeding those things to the starving in Africa. I hope it didn't take you too long to scour the net for a food high in calories but low in sugar.
-
I'm assuming you have the necessary academic qualifications to make such a statement? Didn't think so. Maybe you should leave it to those from MFP who formulated their recommendations to justify them, because you aren't making much of a fist of it.

When I started going to the gym a few years ago I started at 145kg, and in 6-9 months or so got down to 117 without even thinking about diet. I did work hard though and went every day. However, I couldn't get past 117 and eventually I burned out at the gym and went back to 141kg. To cut a long story short, you can only go…
