  • Perhaps try adding a little cardio to your routine. While strength training burns more calories throughout the day, cardio offers bigger burns.
  • I think it has more to do with body type than anything else. My stomach is pretty flat and my butt and legs are thick and curvy, but I have a super small chest. There's not really a work out or diet plan that is going to change that overall shape. Haha.

  • I use an armband. I am liking these suggestions on Bluetooth headphones though!
  • Wow! Very noticeable difference! Great job!
  • I will add you now! I am the same way. The more support, the better!
  • My current goal weight is 160. My lowest was 156. But I am content at 170. Currently at 173!
  • Hey there! I do teach some, but I am in academic director. I figured I may still qualify as a member of the academic field. Ha ha. And I am looking to lose about 13 pounds, but I am very active on MFP. I would love to cheer each other on!
  • Just found this thread and I am so excited! I've been wondering where a lot of the younger people are on here. I'm 25, 5'9, and currently at 177 pounds. I would love to get down to 160! I lost 10 pounds real quickly recently. I have not seen the scale go down as much the past couple of days but I am just focusing on being…
  • I'm going to echo the suggestion to get proper form down. You won't get tired as easily and will go further faster. A few people on here listed some great tips to get started!

  • Haha. I so understand! I don't think a thigh gap is even possible for me.
  • Jamie, yes, I completely understand. When I would go to the gym before I lost a good bit of weight, I felt like I really didn't belong and was embarrassed. What has been really interesting as I have become addicted to the gym now, is the conversations I have with people. A fair amount of the people that are small or…
  • I just chopped off about 10 inches of my hair recently. Long hair is pretty, but not very conducive to a regular work out routine. I would usually just put mine in a ponytail while dancing, since it is a lot of movement in the hair would fall out anyway and then I would do a bun for wraps that could handle it, like the…
  • 6/1 - 10,548 6/2 - 18,150 6/3 - 21,943 My weekend is always so much higher. Sitting behind a desk all day really puts a damper on my steps count. Haha.
  • Dance routines by my hip hop instructor. Just search Nicholas Jacobs.
  • I am pretty sure that is the case here in Georgia too.
  • Here are a few screenshots of my current favorite gym playlist. My other favorite is my playlist of songs from my hip hop class. I use it to do routines on days and times that I can't make it to an actual class.
  • Thanks. I appreciate the compliment.
  • Cycling is a good suggestion too! Yeah, I agree. My shape will never change and I'm OK with that. I guess I just want them to look as good as possible. Hopefully getting to my goal weight will help. I'm OK with the curves. Just wish my legs weren't as close of friends as they are. Ha ha. It sounds like there are quite a…
  • The barre class suggestion is a neat one! I think that could be fun! And, yeah, J-Lo, Shakira, and I have a secret club. It's on the DL, but it's a pretty big deal. Hahahaha.
  • Wow. Thanks for all the feedback, everyone. It sounds like the key advice is to embrace my body type, try to trim down caloric intake a little more to slim, and just keep working out and embrace the muscle that comes with it. :) Thanks again for all the encouraging comments too.
  • Sounds good. I'll just keep up with my work out routine then and keep watching my caloric intake. Thanks. :)
  • Fair point on genetics. Thanks for the compliment.
  • Thanks for the thoughts. It's always so fun when I meet a runner with thick legs. It's not the typical body type for that sport, so I get kind of excited about it. Haha. I'll just keep doing strength training and keep watching my calories. :)
  • Thanks for the encouragement. :)
  • Makes sense. I'll just keep working to stay under my calorie amount then and see if losing helps slim them a bit. And "powerful." I like that.
  • To meet people, you could also try some classes at the gym. Push yourself to say hi to a couple of people while you wait for it start. Some of the ladies from my Zumba classes are a great source of encouragement and fun.
  • I started because someone offered to sponsor my use of a weight loss product they sell. Lost 65 pounds. I am currently about 25 pounds heavier than my lowest weight. I'm on here because I want to get within 10 pounds of my lowest weight ever. Having the community here and tracking my calories has been hugely helpful so…
  • If I work out early enough that I am finished by 930 am or so, I usually wait until after to eat. If I am going to finish later than that, I have a piece of fruit before I go.
  • I spent 3 hours at the gym today and only burned about 1,100! 3,500 is an all-day work out...maybe hiking the Appalachian Trail? Haha.
  • I might have to try a class. This sounds awesome!
