Kudos for being so dependable, but you also have to strike a balance between that and looking out for yourself. If the business suddenly closed due to the loss of one or both of them, would you instantly be out of a job? Could you make ends meet until you found another one?

If you take a moment to think about those buttons, you'll see they get increasingly better as you move to the right. So Woo is better than a Like but not quite as good as a Hug. The icon is the same as Inspiring, so there's another hint that the mods intended for this site to be positive and supportive.

I remember having days like that in my last job. It not only makes the day go so much slower, but brings you down because you feel useless. I used to ask my co-workers if I could help them with their projects. When that didn't work, I'd look for something to organize or make better. When I ran out of stuff to do, I started…

One thing that hasn't been said so far is the need to drink water. Being thirsty can sometimes mimic hunger. Along with ensuring you get enough protein (hitting your macros), you need to keep your fluid levels up. This is especially important after exercise when you might be tempted to scarf down an extra meal.

Skinnypop is great. I measure out 4 cups which is still low cal and gets you weaned off all those flavoured varieties (Smart Food). Just watch out for any unpopped kernals. Seriously, I broke a tooth last week.

There's a thread under Recipes for Meal Preppers. Check it out.

Florence Foster Jenkins with Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant. It was both hilarious and touching.

Make a list of your favourite foods that you just can't live without. My #1 is dark chocolate. I make sure to fit my Lindt or Brookside into my daily calorie allotment even if it means sacrificing something else (like a mid-afternoon cookie or muffin). For me, it's kind of like going shopping on a limited budget. Every…

Yeah, the downside back then was all the dental visits. Now I stick to Perrier to get my fizz fix.

I grew up in London, Ontario (that's Canada for those who don't know where Ontario is). Every Sunday, my parents would take us to the Pop Shoppe. It was pop heaven. They had every flavour imaginable from cream soda to root beer, lime rickey to black cherry. The pop came in bottles with swivel plastic and rubber stoppers.…

Making coffee (my #1 priority), then yoga, then drinking the coffee while the rest of the household is still asleep :-)

My first thought was the hypothyroidism because it slows down your metabolism, thereby causing weight gain. Are you also feeling very tired? Definitely, go to the doctor and report your symptoms. There could be another reason (irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes) for the weight gain and bloating, but you'd most likely have…

I weigh my calorie-dense foods and use measuring cups for my liquids. For example, today at bfast, I weighed my shredded wheat at 70g and my banana was 120g, but I measured one cup of milk. At lunch, I made a salad, but the only ingredients I actually weighed were the feta cheese and avocado. I can eyeball my cucumber,…

But it IS good for you. If you buy the stuff with 100% peanuts--no preservatives, no sugar, and no salt--you're getting a thoroughly awesome source of protein that tastes delicious. A tbsp has about 90 calories, so you have to budget that into your calorie plan, but it's worth it. Put some on your breakfast toast and you…

I just got a Samsung Gear2FitPro for Christmas. I'm still reading the manual and trying to figure out how to link it with MFP, but a test yoga session this morning had it calculating my calories burned exactly the same as logging in MFP. This smart fitness tracker is supposed to be waterproof to 50m, so I will be trying it…

I agree with @swingsnatchlift. I'm 5'9" and 133 lbs (on maintenance, not trying to lose). All the replies to this thread demonstrate that even at similar heights, we all have different body types. I can't change my swimmer's figure (small boobs, flat bum), but I can focus on toning my muscles and challenging myself with…

The article sounds like a fluff piece written for the New Year because so many people use that time to make dieting resolutions. Too bad the newspaper didn't ask qualified nutritionists to contribute. As most people who have lost weight and maintained that loss know, it's all about lifestyle change: making healthier food…

I have an interesting observation to add to this post. For my first 6 months on MFP, I didn't own a food scale. I simply logged my best "guestimates" of food portions. Nonetheless, I managed to lose 12 lbs over 3 months using this method, while also going to the gym regularly. I've been on maintenance since September. For…

Okay, I'm ready to board the Christmas cancellation train. Let's hope it's headed somewhere warm and sunny with nothing remotely seasonal in sight. I want to leave behind the mall music, parking lot fiascos, and the ugly attitudes of my fellow shoppers. My kids are glued to their screens, so they probably won't even notice…

If you are breastfeeding, you should check in with your doctor before drastically reducing your calories. You might still need them for milk production. That aside, I agree with @toxikon. When I had my twins in 2004, I pushed the double stroller at both morning and afternoon naps for a couple of hours each stretch. Not…

Okay, you definitely get my vote for the funniest name and profile pic I've seen in 6 months on MFP!

It's lunch time and I was looking at the cheese selections in my fridge. I've got a bar of extra old cheddar, some feta, and a container of cottage cheese. The cheddar has twice the calories of feta for the same size serving. I tend to eat a larger portion of cottage cheese in one sitting, so the calories would be about…

Love them in a salad with spinach, kale, tomatoes, cucumber, and feta cheese. There's something about the flavour and texture of a ripe avocado blended with the feta that tastes so good. I also cook with avocado oil because of the high heat tolerance.

Talk to your doctor before you start exercising and changing your diet (since you mentioned health problems). Once you've done that, cut out all the processed food at the grocery store and eat fresh as much as possible. Getting rid of belly fat is probably 80% diet (counting calories on MFP) and 20% exercise (core exercise…

I just checked the nutritional data on my dried chick peas. Sure enough, half a cup is 364 calories. Wow! Try edamame (which is high in protein and filling). Half cup serving is only 120 calories.

This only happens to me when I've had a salad for lunch then gone to the gym and lifted weights, done spinning, and spent a half hour doing laps in the pool. When I'm hangry, I feel like the cookie monster from sesame street. My solution? Keep drinking from my water bottle until I'm reasonably full enough to make a smart…

I turned 50 in August and also do yoga and walking every day. I joined the YMCA last March and use the machines for strength training 3 times a week. 4 or 5 times a week, I do cycling and swimming for cardio. I also attend a dance class. None of the workouts had an impact on my weight until I started counting calories and…

Assuming you mean mixed greens when you say salad. How about chick peas with feta and bell peppers instead? https://www.wellplated.com/mediterranean-chickpea-salad/ Another option is to make a batch of chili the night before and eat some cold for lunch. The flavors blend and taste better the next day anyway. I use this…
