Popcorn Calculations

I have been miscalculating my popcorn calories for years. Turns out the whole bag of Kirkland Signature Popcorn is approximately 480 calories, as one serving size is approximately 5.5 cups (popped), 1 cup is 35 calories (popped), and there are 2.5 servings per bag. 5.5x35=192.5, 192.5x2.5=481.2. One bag is nearly my dinner intake!!! So long deliciousness!!!

I've always hated how popcorn calories are given. It's so hard to figure out a serving amount and calories, and they're all different!
At least you might see some extra weight loss from cutting back on it!?1 -
Pop Secret 94% Fat-Free Snack Size ......120 calories for the whole bag.
Another option is a microwave popper. Add a bit of oil (or butter flavored oil)....pop, then add topping as desired. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/articles/50-flavored-popcorn-recipes0 -
I buy smart food variety packs of popcorn. Much simpler to calculate and individual servings.0

I eat Skinny Pop all the time (already popped). I found the best thing to do is to weigh it. Otherwise I eat too much or misjudge what I'm eating.0

I like to portion those types of things out as soon as I open the bag or else it's a free for all (or just a free for me )0

Skinnypop is great. I measure out 4 cups which is still low cal and gets you weaned off all those flavoured varieties (Smart Food). Just watch out for any unpopped kernals. Seriously, I broke a tooth last week.1 -
I just bought the Limited Edition Pop Secret Popfetti popcorn & I'm confused on how to figure it out? It says that it's 150 grams for 2 TBSP unpopped & makes about 3 cups popped for 40 calories per cup.
On the front it says it's 3 OZ (85 grams). To get the correct scale weight do I weigh the popcorn after it's done popping to figure out the calories?0 -
I looked up the nutritional info and its saying the serving size is 25g unpopped (2 tbsp) and that is 130kcal. That's 520kcal/100g.
So per bag (3.5 servings) that's 25g*3.5= 87.5g so 455kcal/ bag. You can then weigh the popped corn out of the bag and portion out however much you want. If you eat 1/2 the bag that's 455/2=228kcal.
On my bag of plain kernels it says that 50g of unpopped makes about 45g of popped if it's easier to estimate from the popped weight. Weight of popped corn*1.11 = the unpopped weight, approximately, then multiply by the /100g kcal value.
I do like maths but tbh if I make microwave popcorn I'm eating the whole bag which makes things significantly simpler. Or guess what looks like half the bag and take the possible inaccuracy for an easier life.0
