  • There's ton's on the internet. Just look up intermittent fasting. There are also several threads here that you can search for.
  • I've asked my doctor and of course she says, "Well you'll just have to eat". None of my meds require food, but I just feel weird when I don't eat with them.
  • I just started 15:9 fasting about 3 weeks ago. I haven't lost any weight, but I haven't been watching my calories either. What I have noticed though is that before IF, I always gained a couple pounds over the weekend (always overdue on my cheat days) with the IF I'm not doing that, I'm staying steady. So I think that if I…
  • Personally, I think taking a break from exercising every once in a while is good for us. When I'm really feeling burnt out sometimes taking a week or two off will get me re-motivated. Yes, you may lose a little bit of fitness, but it won't be much. Just don't let the break completely derail you and you'll be fine.
  • Being put on medications that mess with your satiety signals. I can't just "eat when I'm hungry, stop when I'm full." because I never get full with the meds I take. Have to count calories. Hate it, but that's how it is. Going from an active job (house cleaning) to a desk job (bank clerk) and then getting plantar fasciitis,…
  • If you want to make hot chocolate with it you have to "temper" it like egg yolks when you make a pudding. Here's how. Mix your protein powder, cocoa and sweetener with a little cold milk of your choice, mix until smooth. Then, in a separate cup, heat your milk to just hot, but not boiling ( I usually do this in the…
  • Thanks for all your support guys. I know it's a choice and that both losing weight and being too heavy is hard. @elisa123gal --how are you losing weight if you're not tracking calories? @Machka9 -- I used to love to walk, but I've developed really bad plantar faciitis and can't do that any longer. I also have fibromyalgia…
  • @quicksylver296 Thanks, I'll give these a read.
  • Intuitive eating will also not work on anyone who takes hunger/appetite increasing medications. I take 3 of these meds and if I ate "only when hungry" it would be all the time. I'm always hungry and I rarely feel full, except at big Holiday dinners where there is tons of food. I have heard that the difference between…
  • Yep. I usually don't have trouble getting supermarket eggs to peel because by the time you buy them they are already a week or two old. However, when I buy fresh eggs from a lady at church who has hens, I almost always have trouble getting them to peel. I have found that putting about a tbsp of oil in the water when…
  • I think I agree with a lot of the others that your fitbit may be giving you a false amount of calories burned. 500-1000 seems like a lot for only walking 5-6 miles a day even at your current weight. I know my exercise bike grossly overestimates calories burned.
  • Anti-depressents really do mess with your satiety signals. You might look into a different one, if Prozac really causes you problems (I can't take it, it makes me almost manic) My doctor has me rotate every two years between Zoloft and Celexa because you can also build up a tolerance to them over time and switching…
  • Depends on what you like. I love Acorn Media's stuff. Murdock Mysteries Doc Martin Midsommer Murders A Place Called Home Miss Marple Poirot (some of these are also on Netflicks Also like the Netflicks series: Longmire The Crown I also like a lot of the old corny shows from the 50's & 60's. They're always good for a laugh:…
  • Good for you! I wish I could let it go. It's such a time suck. I confess that I could eat a whole batch of No Bake cookies by myself if someone would just let me.
  • All of this. There have been studies that show that when under a lot of stress you may need a few more calories. I'm talking 100-200 a day here, not 1200 :) . Give yourself a little wiggle room for a few days, so you're not adding "I'm so gonna get fat" stress to the stress you're already under. If you can manage it, add…
  • 140lbs at 5'6" is perfectly healthy. If trying to get below that makes you miserable don't do it. Just try to maintain. I'm kind of at that stage myself. I'm about 15lbs over where I'd like to be, but at almost 50 and having several health issues that make it hard to exercise I've just about decided to work at just not…
  • I agree with the whole more active, ate less junk, but I seem to remember when I was a kid in the 70's almost every adult I knew smoked. I know my mother smoked for several years to keep her weight down. It didn't work for everyone, but a lot of people would smoke instead of eat. Not a healthy trade off.
  • I think most of us can benefit from trying to stay inside the BMI range, but there are always exceptions. My best friends daughter is a gymnast and is nothing but solid muscle, not a 1/2 inch of fat on her anywhere, but her BMI says she is on the borderline of obese for her height. It really upset her when she found that…
  • Someone gave me this advice when I started. I was also trying to cut my calories to 1400 a day, but I figured I HAD been eating about 1800-2000 a day before starting my eating plan. Then someone suggested that instead of cutting to 1400 I try just going down to 1600 for a month or so until my body adjusted and then cut…
  • Medications really do mess with your satiety signals. I never really had trouble with my weight until I started taking an anti-depressant 20 years ago. I gained about 15lbs. Then I developed fibromyalgia and started taking a couple of other meds to manage that condition and gained another 30lbs. I too find that I just…
  • My mother-in-law is the same way. She told me once, "If I only ate when I was hungry, I'd never eat." She basically eats one meal a day with my FIL because HE needs dinner. Strangely enough though, she is not what I would call healthy. Even though she is technically underweight she has anemia, high blood pressure, high…
  • I can't imagine how hard it would be to be a chef and try to lose or even maintain your weight. I love food too, but I just have to keep the things I really, really crave out of the house. Being around food all day would be soooo hard for me. More power to you on your journey.
  • Another sister in Christ here. This is a very supportive community. You'll enjoy it.
  • I agree with the pre-logging. I did that this weekend and I did soooo much better. I didn't gain back any of the weight I lost this week and even managed a treat or two. Sushi, ice-cream and a very small piece of coffee cake. :)
  • Thanks Guys for all the suggestion. I really appreciate how supportive the MFP folks are. It's good to know that others struggle with the same things. @btcowboy I never thought about doing my calorie counting as a weekly thing. Definitely something to consider. If I just dropped another 100 calories a day for…
  • @88olds, I don't think I'm being terribly restrictive during the week. I started out at 160lbs. I'm a 5' 4", moderately active woman and I've cut my calories down to 1600/day (I estimate I was eating 1800-2000 before I started trying to lose some weight). On that I lose a 1-3 pounds a week, depending on just how active I…
  • Unfortunately, I'm one of those morning people. Doesn't seem to matter how late I go to bed, I'm generally awake by 7-7:30 at the latest. Breakfast and dinner are usually around the same time. Lunch varies. My big issue is that on Friday nights my husband and I have a "date", have done this since our son was a baby. It's…
  • Yup, the only way I know what I can/can't eat. Also allows me to make adjustments earlier in the day if I want to splurge at dinner.
  • I'm on week 2 of Naturally Slim (my company is paying for it) and I too find myself with a bad attitude about it. Yes there are the basics which are sound--only eat when truly hungry and stop when satisfied, but then there is the pure conjecture. Eat one food at a time, eat only a "fistful" of food at a time (and that…
