Great Progress!

I guess many of us started at our heaviest. I, too, was at my heaviest 61 days ago and have lost 14.2 lbs. I wish all of you success in your new journey.

It took me about 65 days to lose 15 lbs and that also included the initial water weight drop.

I don't know how much you smoke, but I read that you have to eat about 100 calories less per day (or exercise) to offset the decrease in your metabolism. I'm sure there's info on the web about this.

I try to get between 12,000-16,000 steps a day. It takes me a good portion of the day because I do it in little bits. I have a Fitbit Alta (not a HRM), which buzzes every hour for me to get 250 steps. However, every hour I try to get at least 1000 steps. When I want to get those steps over with, I jog frantically in place,…

Sometimes during the night I wake up thirsty or hungry, so I keep a bottle of water by my bed. If I drink a lot, I will sometimes weigh more in the morning.

Walking is my primary form of exercise. I mostly walk around the house, my driveway, out to the mailbox, etc. Frequently I jog in place in front of the TV. I try to get a least 15,000 steps per day. I've lost 14.2 pounds in 60 days.

Also - one thing I do is press lightly on one side to see if it's level. It should be stable and not wobble.
-
I use spaghetti squash rather than noodles. Much less calories.
-
I do both. I restrict my carbs to 50-75 per day because I'm pre-diabetic. I use CICO for weight loss.

I was in a similar situation when we came north after our winter in Florida. On my personal calendar I noted "NY scale" and then my weight. When we return to Florida next week and I have my Florida scale, I'll just note, "Fl scale" on my personal calendar. Regarding MFP, I log the weight that it is.

How about peanut butter?

Fish and chips with lots of tartar sauce and catsup or Boardwalk fries with vinegar and lots of catsup.

I'll be 68 on 9/23.

I get this - I posted a couple of months ago when I first started that my big belly belly felt hard. Now after almost 2 months, it's starting to feel squishy. I love it.

Tough. When the kids are sleeping might be the time you and your wife need to spend together, even if it's just watching TV or movies. I think it would be awkward for you to make an escape to the gym as soon as kids fall asleep, leaving your wife alone. I like the idea (if you can afford it) of purchasing some weights or…

Some painkillers, especially ibuprofen and other nsaids cause water retention.

I want to lose 3 lbs in 2 weeks.
-
Me too, though like CMNVA, gone a few hours later.

I weigh everyday and record my weight on a personal calendar. However, I only record my losses on MFP.

Hubby and I are both trying to lose weight. Just today, Hubby made a chicken recipe called, "Cornell Chicken". It's an awesomely delicious recipe and one we've made in the past. The marinade was 2 cups of vinegar, a cup of oil and a tbl of salt. I don't know what make us think it was harmless, after all, it was chicken.…

I like the taste of the beer I drink. I know some say it's nasty, but I like it. LOL
-
I know that the drinking isn't good for me and I do want to cut back or eliminate. I do count the calories and every morsel that I eat. I don't snack with it, but I do eat regularly nutritious meals. I do like the fizz in the 0 calorie seltzers or club soda, and I was thinking it would help me to make the transition. Am…

"Later, how much harder will it be for others to take care of us if we are all of those things, and how much earlier and for how much longer will we need them to do so because of not giving our own health some priority earlier in life?" For sure.....during my 7 weeks of being in the immobilizer sling, my husband hfelad to…

Certainly this is possible! I had a personal trainer 3 years ago. I was 64 at the time. Although my BMI was satisfactory, my BF was high. Below is a summary of my progress at the end of 6 months by my trainer: I used the Bio Electrical Impedance Monitor values because I feel they may be more accurate than the skin…

What a difference! Great job! YAY!

I'll be 68 this month and trying to lose the 30+ lbs I gained following a rotator cuff tear and subsequent surgery. My right arm was in an immobilizer sling for 7 weeks and it was 3 months before I was allowed to even drive. I was basically helpless for many weeks. I couldn't do much walking because the sling threw my gait…

We have one. It can also be plugged into the room. We love it!
