  • I had some incredibly tasty baby spinach. My homemade vegetable moussaka wasn't bad either, but that spinach was just such a good example of it's type!
  • Urg, I hate when experiments in the kitchen fail!! On the one hand, good that there was an edible outcome (I've not always managed that...); and there really is no other hand. One day, one week even, is not horrid in the grand scheme of things (it sounds like your philosophy has already assured you of that!) What kind of…
  • I've never had a plateau (for whatever reason) but am hugely enjoying hearing about yours!
  • This. Yes. And I've finally had the grown-up talk with myself about it. That if I'm avoiding something owning that is a good thing to do. Right now the conversation I'm having with me is that I will be logging for the long haul, and that there's nothing wrong with that. And both of me seem to agree.
  • The victory when one manages a perfect measure is real. Made vegetable moussaka over the weekend. I'm in the UK, so all cooking and baking is by weight, not by volume, and when I measured 20g butter for the roux, perfectly, first time, you better believe I was doing a happy dance in the kitchen. Then I had a mass fail on…
  • Speaking from when my best friend (my grandmother) died, finding the few things I could control and keeping them in check was part of how I kept myself mentally safe. I was a week with family where there would be no food scales, where vegetables were used as decor rather than a staple and there were way more people than…

  • Hello, welcome and enjoy the ride! Keep an eye on the Challenges board https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/categories/challenges There are plenty of nerdly-framed opportunities that allow you to tap your inner collaborative competitor.
  • Yes! This!! I'm going to utter heresy and admit that I don't measure all BLTs (bites, licks, tastes). If I'm making my son peanut butter and jam and a lentil-sized bit of peanut butter gets licked off my fingers... I don't log it!! But that's because my trend is in the direction I want. I do measure most things (and in the…
  • Many, many congratulations on your loss so far! It is absolutely an NSV, even if it's bittersweet (as you say). In addition to shopping thrift stores and friends' closets, check to see if there are free exchange social things in your area (we use freecycle, but I think Craigslist used to have a 'free only' section and…
  • Digging’s a good workout! Loving this thread!! @imaginemary best of luck in your continued journey. This 40-something has a thread full of role models!
  • So many of my favourite MFPers in one truly snarky thread! This was just what an ill in bed kat needed. @PAV8888 I think it's because 'disagree' feels like 'disapprove' or 'don't like' which, as you point out, is not the same thing in the least. Whereas 'woo' was fully ambiguous (which is why it was changed, I believe...).…
  • As many people on here remind others of us, weight loss happens in the kitchen. So even if you’re not able to move in a way you’ve been accustomed to, CICO says that you can lose the added weight. I hope your return to recovery is going well, and that your next year is better than the last.
  • Inspired by this thread (and my love of being able to make informed decisions - data!!) I've reinstalled Happy Scale (other trend trackers are available) and started tracking my morning weight. Interesting week to start: TOM (predictably) and being whacked with a proper nasty illness. And I don't see a notes section on…
  • Absolutely. And you are doing amazing things with that fuel!!
  • Watching my mother and both her parents taking blood sugars because of T2 diabetes in all three cases. And also pragmatism: There is an extremely good chance I will be solo caretaker to our learning disabled autistic child for much of my later life. I want to go into that as strong as I can. I never had all that much to…
  • @Orphia Well said!! While it’s less confusing than ‘woo’, ‘disagree’ is considerably more disheartening to see (except when something’s empirically inaccurate...) I’m not the mess noticer in our house, but we do have a mostly-agreed understanding that things need to be at a certain level of doneness before we go to bed.…
  • BBC 6 has a funk’n’soul show on Saturday night, and ya better believe I’ve been working on NEAT with its help!!
  • What are your usual sources of protein? I'm assuming that's a slightly separate issue to the different diets thing? Caveat: I am no expert and (occasionally do struggle with getting my full MFP-recommended amount of protein in a day), but for me fish (we do include some oily fish for the healthy Omegas but also non-oily…
  • Awesome, @alekhyayl ! That's wonderful!!
  • **raises hand** Same. Sometimes I look at that target weight and think 'really?'
  • Two observations: The italicised bit does feel like she's looking for something more from you. Possibly not, but in your position I would read that as a signal being sent. I think you're wise to temper it with the letting her actually say she wants your input. The bold bit is so frequently true. Losing weight can simply be…
  • My partner is one of y’all: as supportive as anyone could hope for, but likes ‘a little bit of roundness. Not a lot, and if [I’m] happy then that’s what matters, but... A little bit of roundness is good.’ I’m so pleased with the whole package, but yeah, the legs are the bit I’ve surprised myself by loving.
  • There is something I love about seeing what others think I will like, but Christmas for us is of necessity small (we have one small child, partner has 1 sibling (who also has a small family) and my whole family are on another continent) so it's maybe 4 gifts total being opened. And I'm genuinely interested in what comes,…
  • Love this thread!! Real reason? Child with learning disabilities and partner 24 years older than me = I'm gonna be a carer for a looooong time, and that will be much easier if I don't have the T2 diabetes that runs in my family or am carrying around another me... Inspiration? Several years ago as we were leaving a petrol…
  • I wasn't homesick until your most recent post, @mtaratoot : an Ohioan now in the UK after 10 years living in California. Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale (if I'm thinking the right one) is a very happy place to be, and the burritos I could get in the Mission or in Oakland.... Right, so doing burritos or tacos at home for…
  • For me the day starts right if I'm up by 6 and either running or bodyweight exercising by 6:10. Have to get the family up and started by 7, and bedtime can last as late as 9, so if I want any time with my partner I only have the mornings. The trick to starting early is ending the previous day early. It all cascades.
  • Aside from wanting to be well in myself, my son is my top reason for taking care of me: to set a good example, to have an accomplice in things like running and getting out, to be there for him throughout his complex life. It's easy to slip. We do the work, think we've got it sorted, and then... find out we were kind of not…
  • I've maintained for a good few years now, so I don't get the questions any more, but I LOVE this. Did have a bit of a back and forth with a colleague over replacing the filtered water in our office kitchen the other day. When he tried demanding that I leave it for him to do, I replied that I lift more than that on a…
