  • Great work @Tallawah_ I can get into the starting position - if I am on parallettes. The ground not so much. But that is only because we do lots of mobility work on this in class. Though i am a long way off even with a lot of training. My spotting partner dropped me in handstand class tonight and I landed badly on my…
  • Just revisiting the challenge. I am on day 266 of my 365 days of handstands challenge. Nothing amazing to report achievement-wise on my handstands except that i have being doing them daily and slowly slowly improving. I went to Singapore on the weekend to watch the Formula 1 Grand Prix and managed to squeeze in a handstand…
  • I started adult ballet classes two years ago at 45. It has been a lot of fun and very physically demanding as ballet is hard due to the technical and precise nature of the moves. My ballet classes have a diverse age range of particpants going from people in their twenties up to people in their seventies so it it is…
  • Oh yes -getting good an exercise in discipline and commitment. It looks super easy but it is very difficult in reality. But it is also highly rewarding and a lot of fun and more people should give it a try :)
  • @mom23mangos - it does seem slightly ambitious with the 1 minute hold but I practice handstands every day and do an hour long class every week were I have a coach critiquing my form and telling me where I am going wrong. According to my coaches once you have gotten over a 10 second balance the main thing that is preventing…
  • Handstands are frustrating like that. I have been working on handstands for what seems like forever and i have only recently gotten to the point where I can kick up and hold balance on a regular basis. My goal for the end of 2019 is to join the 1 minute hold club. 2020 will be year of the press handstand  This lady…
  • Well done @Tallawah_ I have been diligently practicing daily along with classes 3 times a week. I would love to say that I now the most awesome handbalancer that there ever was but that would be a lie. Progress is slow but I remain committed to my long term goal of a minute hold/press handstand and remind myself about…
  • Welcome @lhaddi I have nothing amazing to report. I am doing daily handstands and being consistent and patient. I have good days and frustrating days. I did see a nice meme about fruit being the last thing to grow on a tree. Getting nice long balances is my brand of fruit :)
  • If it helps in the encouragement stakes I am 46 and have only been handstanding since I was 44. It is never to late to get into it
  • Yoga with Adrienne is great - lots of different yoga classes and she does meditation as well. I would try out an in person yoga class at some stage as sometimes you need an instructor to show you correct alignment and positions as sometimes you can unknowingly be doing things wrong if you are just doing video based classes…
  • I have been practicing everyday in 2019 including going to classes three time a week. People I talk to always get confused about the fact that there is a class that specialises in handstands but the people actually doing class all agree it is probably one of the most demanding class around. I think I am improving though…
  • I feel super excited because at tonight's handstand class i got put into the "intermediate" gang for working on drills - and they were hard drills. It is nice to get external confirmation that i am making progress (and I really have this month - huzzah for daily practice and a new teaching style). @wanderingarcher - my…
  • Very impressive @mom23mangos. I can do an l *kitten* and shoulder stand but only separately not as a flow.
  • I do Yoga with Adrienne every morning. At the moment I am do the 30 day “Dedicate” program but otherwise I just cycle through various 25 minute lessons as it is easy to squeeze that into my day. I can’t say if it has any impact on my mobility but I find it has a calming effect on me.
  • Well done @ContraryMaryMary. My crow is non-awesome. When I first started the challenge which was initially just for a month it was every day. Then it turned into a couple of times a week when I had an actual handstand class. This month it has been a daily practice again as I decided to set it is a challenge to myself to…
  • A different kind of balancing there @mbaker566. Looks great and makes me miss Lyra a lot. Congratulations @snugglesworthjr - that is such an awesome achievement. I was excited to read this blog tonight after handstand class especially as it mentioned teachers I have come across and the studio I go to - and I always like in…
  • I get a pain like that when I am working on a pancake or pike stretch but never had that one in handstand. Did she explain the connection about why handstands are banned or is it quite a few exercises. You have my sympathy in any event. My practice is going well though my shoulders and traps are super sore at the moment.…
  • What way are you facing when fold in half? A good way to focus on balance is to kick up to the wall then do a drill that is called heel pulls. Basically you focus on hands and "claw fingers" then push up in your shoulder and you float away from the wall and get some balance. Focus on keeping the legs as tightly close…
  • I am up to Day 15 of my 365 day handstand challenge and am very happy with the progress I have made as my balancing improves and confidence improves as well. The classes three times a week probably helps a lot as well.
  • @wanderingarcher - movement gym's seem really popular in my town. I was reading on a handstand website that we have an unusually strong and supportive handstand community. Down under people apparently like being upside down. The only downside is that it is on the pricey side but to me it is worth every penny.
  • I practice handstands between weightlifting sets as well - though when I am weightlifting I am at home so only instagram gets to see  ) When I go to my gym it is all gymnastics based and handstands are mandatory and everyone is doing it. I seriously love my new gym a lot - it is good to be around people that…
  • I am at the wall daily - it is good conditioning work. 😀
  • Well done @mom23mangos - i am jealous of those times. I have really come along in the last week with my balance which is exciting for me as before I just had good lines and limited balance now i have good lines and some balance which is creeping up every time I try - which is back to being daily and is making a huge…
  • I had another handstand class at my new gymnastic studio tonight. It is amazing how much variation I have seen about what is taught in a handstand class by going to different places. At the pole dance studio I go to there is hardly any focus on technique and form rather working on pretty poses. At circus school, it is a…
  • Very impressive @mom23mangos. I am far to scared to try that un my parallettes even if they were closer to the ground. Sometimes I practice on yoga blocks but it is equally terrifying
  • Happy 2019 my fellow handstanders! Today I kicked off my 365 days of handstand challenge. Woohoo. My motivation is high as I am determined that this year is going to be the year I reach my handbalancing goals.i have committed myself to 3 handstand classes a week to help cement the daily practice so it become a daily ritual…
  • I tried a new handstand instructor/class today. Probably the best I have ever tried. He promised me that he would get me to a 1 minute balance though he ripped my technique to shreds as I need to focus on balance not line or form apparently which is the opposite of what I have been previously been taught. It is exciting.…
  • I'm still going. Not as consistent as I would like but at least I am doing two classes per week. My plan for 2019 is to do a 365 days of handstand challenge as I want to improve my consistency. Apparently my lines are beautiful but lenghty balancing is elusive. Big goal for 2019 is to master the staddle press handstand and…
  • My 2019 are my 2018 goals which I didn't manage to achieve being able to hold a handstand for a minute and manage to do the splits. A torn hamstring in August made the splits goal an impossible thing to achieve this year and well handstand balancing is an art-form which requires patience and consistency. 2019 I will…
