  • Cite those studies. I would love to read them since I'm someone who has been doing keto for 3+ years and have preserved + gained muscle and lost fat under the diet.
  • In regards to your "meta-analysis," where on earth is that picture from? I did a google-images search and can't find it on any reliable sources.
  • Here's a good video from Thomas D. : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJOlP1MbN3k
  • Hello! Keto for 3 years and going!
  • At least there’s credibility to begin with! ;)
  • You do realize that chiropractics can have a specialization or a practice in nutrition, right?
  • At this point, I'm going to agree to disagree. I apologize @piascore if I caused the deviation in the topic you intended this thread to have. I only meant to suggest trying out BCAAs and checking out Dr. Berg's video as both have benefited me in gaining muscle while on keto. I hope that my posts here were, at the very…
  • That is the OP.
  • Again, I never said taking BCAAs alone is beneficial. I'll just leave a few studies for you guys to take a look at if you're interested: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3313152/ Ingestion of a supplement containing BCAAs while following an 8-week resistance training program resulted in a greater decrease in…
  • the response of BCAAs in conjunction with intact protein is a different issue that the effect of BCAAs alone So what is the relevance of that study in terms of this topic (muscle gain while on keto with increased protein intake and taking BCAAs)? I never said that taking BCAAs alone or while in a caloric deficit is…
  • Correct. The study is regarding the use of BCAA supplements, not protein intake in general. My point is it mainly regards taking the supplement alone (which shows that there wasn't a benefit), versus taking it with a protein meal (by which there was a benefit).
  • A flaw I see in your study is that sample size is too small to generalize an entire population: Louard et al. [13] used the forearm balance method to quantify the response to the intravenous infusion of a mixture of BCAAs for 3 h in 10 post-absorptive subjects. Similar results were obtained by the same investigators when…
  • Did you even read the studies? Or did you google scholarly articles and compiled a list of links to call it a counter- argument? I'm going to make an example through one of which you've "cited." First Study: The data do not seem to support a benefit to BCAA supplementation during periods of caloric restriction ABSTRACT "J…

  • Yay. Before I went Keto I had issues with my mood and suffered from hypoglycemia (I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes at the age of eight). I often had trouble focusing in school and had at least one glycemic event per week. My running was good, but it could of been better. I’ve decided to go Keto after seeing my mother…
  • Keto has its science, it just depends on whether or not you're interested in looking into it. I and many others who treat it as a way of life don't go around dictating it as the one and only way for someone to resolve their nutritional / medical problems. Everybody has a diet that has worked for them, and some want to help…
  • The anti-keto fiasco. Like seriously, people need to step away from dietary egos.
  • Welcome to my world! Back when I was on a normal diet I’d feel fat and antsy whenever I had sugar or carbs. Best way to get rid of it? Work out. Even though I am Keto now if I don’t workout regularly I get the same feeling, always resolves with high-intensity excercise. Hope that helps! :)
  • I again invite you to contribute by linking us to your own research! Livestrong is certainly not a strong source but the article itself makes a great point. I’ll be sure to include some additional studies when I get the chance
  • Is actually mary poppins.
  • Per livestrong: “If sugar calories are not used as energy shortly after they are consumed, however, they are converted into stored body fat by a process known as lipogenesis. One form of sugar in particular, fructose, may be more dangerous and likely to be stored as body fat than other types of sugar, such as sucrose, or…
  • Thanks, though I don’t consider myself as someone who is “competition level” when it comes to physique. It is always good to aspire to be healthy though! I’m glad my good health shows in my senior portrait. I would love to read a few studies that shows longevity in terms of diet, though that really has nothing to do with…
  • I firmly believe a spouse has the right to advocate for their significant other’s better health. But to demand weight gain / loss when there is no real health concern? Fallacious.
  • When it comes down to obesity, I belive there are two pathways of blame: the person or his/her metabolic system. Here’s my logic: Some obese people have no control over their weight due to some metabolic issue despite making every attempt in resolving it. Mind you, in good cases people with for example half or no thyroid…
  • Have you tried keto?

  • I find it unfortunate that some members on this board found the need to turn this into a debate thread. Last I checked this was posted on "Food and Nutrition." and not "Debate: Health and Fitness." You guys really need to stop it with the dietary egos and appreciate the fact that @mbjo has found a diet that works for her.…
