I actually lost weight when I gave up running. I didn't run very often, so it really messed with my appetite, as my body would be starving the next day, in anticipation of needing to fuel for another run that wouldn't ever happen. I also used to go out for food with other runners afterwards, and it would be at places with…

I don't understand this show. The contestants are very obese and they compete to lose as much as possible each week by restricted eating and insane workouts. Eating better and working out more are both great things, but they happen too quickly. See here for an insight into why this is a bad idea:…

I wear mine all the time when I leave the house. You never know when you're going to run into people, so it's easier to just put it on straight away. The lack of allergies and colds is a nice side effect - I used to roll my eyes when tourists came to my city and wore masks - but over the last year, they've become…

@kiannaade8338 Honestly, I'd just do quick add, add a couple thousand calories and move on. It was 3 days ago! I find logging helps me take back control, but once a day is over, it's over. If you can identify what went wrong for you on that day, great, that's helpful, but I wouldn't obsess over getting the tracking right…

You look considerably thinner and healthier; well done. Whatever you're doing, keep it up! Keep taking those progress photos. You might not be able to see the difference now or even in a few months, but at some point in your journey, when you look back at all of those photos, it'll suddenly hit you how much weight you have…

I am currently tucking into a giant bowl of plain chow mein, which was 265 calories to make - you could make a smaller portion and it would still feel big enough to be a meal. You just need to watch the amount of vegetable oil and sesame oil you add, as that's where the calories come in. Egg noodles seem to be much better…

When I talk about what you burn, I mean the calories you expend. You expend calories just from breathing, you don't need to exercise to burn calories (but you'd burn significantly more calories from going to the gym than simply sitting on the couch). To clarify, I mean you need to eat fewer calories than you use up in…

Tu n'as que 20 ans?

I love carbs, so I lose weight quicker when I eat lots of carbs. The logic being, when a diet makes you miserable, you stop sticking to it. I make sure I eat things every day that make me happy (and that fit into my calorie allowance).

As long as the calories you consume are fewer than the calories you burn, you'll lose weight. To an extent, it doesn't matter when you eat them, but if, taking an extreme example, you eat all of your calories for the day in the morning you'll probably feel uncomfortably full and lethargic for the whole day then suddenly…

By recognising that you need a cheerleader on this journey, and the world's best cheerleader is yourself. Congratulate yourself on your highs. Commiserate with your lows. Above all, treat yourself with the kindness you would show any other human. I think for many of us, the reason we ended up overweight in the first place…

Well, your BMR is 1,567 calories and 1,500 is less than that, so even if you spend all day doing nothing, you should lose on that. I've become sedentary during the pandemic and even I burn at least 300 calories above my BMR each day. You should have a nice deficit. I'm 5'4" and my base calorie amount whilst losing weight…

What do you think went wrong? It's not nice to dwell on what we think are our failures, but if you've tried to manage your weight for 18 years, you have lots of insightful information on what doesn't work for you. Unpick that information and build it into your plan now. With your height and weight, 1,200 is too low. Your…

Lack of sleep definitely correlates with weight gain for me. If I'm having a hard time of it with the scales, I try to prioritise a good night's rest.
-
In my experience... A Fitbit tracks sleep more accurately. It will pick up my actual sleep at night, together with any random daytime naps. A Garmin only tracks sleep accurately overnight, and cannot cope with you having broken sleep and/or napping during the day. It can also assume you're asleep if you're just being very…

I ate something for dinner that was a much lower calorie version of something I would have eaten in the past and IT WAS TASTY AND NOT AN AWFUL ORDEAL TO ENDURE. I can't tell you how excited I was to actually enjoy something healthier, as opposed to eating something healthier because I felt I should and being miserable for…

Truthfully... I transitioned to black coffee (and black tea) when I was a student because someone kept drinking my milk. I was so fed up that it was easier to just learn to do without than to keep buying something for someone else to secretly steal! As for sugar/sweetener, I can't give any advice because I didn't grow up…

I don't understand the question entirely, but my answer is, it depends. If the item is relatively low calorie and the max variation is not going to result in much of a difference, I'm more inclined to take the label. If it's higher calorie, or I know the portion size lies (sliced bread is particularly bad for this!), I'll…

How do you know if you're doing it right? What's it supposed to feel like?

Jaffa cakes. They're OK, but in terms of how full you feel, they're like eating air. Don't bother if you're hungry. Pret sandwiches. I like their baguettes, but they start at 600 calories. I don't like them that much. It makes me sad how many calories avocados have. I've found carrots and peppers to be better value for…

I didn't have a notification, but if you follow this link, you'll see the invitation at the top: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/groups One last post for January from me... Tracked: ✅ Under: ❌ Nope. I did go way under yesterday though, so perhaps it balances out. 2+veggies: ✅ Cauliflower soup is growing on me!

Only quickly popping in, will write more later. Saturday: Tracked: ✅ Under: ✅ (Mainly because I fell asleep, woke up after midnight and missed dinner!) 2+veggies: ✅ People keep trying to get me to watch Bridgerton - I thought it might be quite good because of Shonda Rhimes, but the trailer didn't blow me away. Maybe I'll…

The exams I've done so far under lockdown really are for my own academic amusement, Barb - I could have done them much earlier in my career when they would have mattered. The ones I've just signed up for aren't essential in my current role, but some other employers would much prefer someone with those exams. So, I guess if…

Pomelo is like pomegranate, in that I will happily eat if it someone else prepares it. Otherwise, you're right, it is a workout! ;)

It's the growing them inside (apartment living). I really need a window box to give them enough good quality daylight, but I have my doubts over how secure that would be. If it were to fall down, I don't own the garden on the ground and would have no access to retrieve it! Plus, as I said, it's a gift. Some people are…

I've had a look at your diary - assuming you're logging correctly, you're a Brit, right? I've never tried Slimfast, but some people just don't get on with liquid replacing meals, when it comes to feeling full up. How hungry do you feel afterwards? There's not really enough data to see a pattern, but are you typically…

I'm currently obsessed with sweet mini peppers. They're more expensive than the bog-standard peppers, but they're ever so slightly nicer and I love eating them raw. I don't love a lot of raw vegetables, but if I finely dice them and stick them on top of anything, it instantly improves the meal and gets 1/2 to 1 of my…

Anything is improved with aioli. I love garlic so much - my mum really hates it. Whenever I see her in person (it's been more than a year) I have to make sure I stop eating it a few days beforehand. She has such a sensitive sense of smell and such a strong aversion! I'm not doing the exercise one because I'll only hit that…
