Made it through my first Zumba class.

Way to go, OP!! Not only your weight loss but also your positive attitude and celebration are very inspiring to me! Way to go, and keep it up, you’re awesome!

Parked remotely. Walked a mile and back to the office.

I didn’t. Had to drop some commitments in order to stay healthy. I was so busy/stressed that I made myself sick, and that was not doing anyone any good- kids, partner, workmates, customers included.

25 lbs.

I hate running around in circles (like on a track) and even worse the treadmill. But I do like these things about it: Running TO somewhere; Running in a soccer game or basketball game- so much more fun when in running shape; Running with a friend at a pace we can both talk; Running intervals or sprints or fartlek, as…

Keep up with the slowest regulars in our running group.

Dried mango. Candied ginger. In small quantities of course. But they are so flavorful and pungent that a little might be planty. The ginger is a digestive, too, so satisfying after a meal.

Wore my shirt tucked in to my pants at work.

I don’t know what keto is but I went cold turkey on sweets and it worked to get rid of the cravings. I don’t miss sweets! Which is crazy because I thought I had such acsweet tooth, and I, too, would binge on office candy, and ice cream after dinner. Quitting was a lot like quitting caffeine or alcohol. Felt gross for about…

Way to go!!

Showed up for Week 2 of running class. Was lapped by many, 30 years younger, but I have more experience being out of shape than they do! I’m not giving up.

Yes, cut it out completely many years ago. You’ll be surprised how many people actually do not drink at all, and manage to enjoy themselves socially. It helps to have a go-to social drink, like club soda and lime, or Topo Chico. Also helps to have a hobby, some athletic activity, and some new friends, who don’t drink.…

Yes I track, to stay in the habit of doing it. No, I don’t stress over what I’m eating at a family celebration, within reason. (Like maybe one rib and piece of cake, not 6 of them.)

It helps me to ask, “what am I getting out of this behavior?” And then to look for another way to get it. That’s easier on the old ego than to beat myself up about failure or self-sabotage. If I’m choosing to overeat, not exercise, and stay fat, then there must be some good reason. Sometimes it’s obvious- like a work…

Wearing shorts in public.

500 warmup; 5x200 free; 8x50 kick; 4x200 IM; warm down.

12 lbs 3 months. 1500 cal initially, 1250 now. Rate is slowing, as expected, and it’s now easier to move, so I recently added running/walking.

Feldenkrais helped. Also active release massage from a well-trained person under the supervision of a chiropractor.

I never did find a way. The kids finally grew up. I quit my demanding job and side gigs. That wasn’t easy. It took many years to be able to do so. I’m so much happier. Sleep, stress, overeating, aches and pains are all much better as a result.

How about jumping rope? When I worked in an office, I tried to get bits of movement in during the day- like parking on the far end of the lot; taking the stairs in the parking garage; taking the stairs between floors; getting up from the desk every hour or so and stretching and walking around, if you have the freedom to do…

Way to go!

Find someone new to dance with. (Hmm, maybe that’s not such a “mini” goal.)
-
Joined a beginner running group and actually showed up for the early a.m. workout. Ran a mile. Had no idea I could do that. Walked thevrest that’s ok for now.
-
Found 30 minutes of time each day to move. No excuses. Calling it “exercise” would have been an exaggeration in the beginning. It gets better.
-
Thanks to this awesome advice, I joined a running group, started today, and I love it! In a month I may be able to keep up with the beginners. My goal in the meantime is simply to show up, ready to go. Thanks, fellow Fitness Pal!

Thanks for the great advice! Inspirational too!

You all are very patient and kind. I refuse to cook two different meals, and have said out loud that I am not interested in nursing someone through the long degenerative health problems and early death that are coming the way of my husband who eats badly and drinks too much, despite doctors’ suggestions. What a family…
