  • I'm also a veggie-scrap saver for broth, but I never thought to save shrimp shells! I'm going to start doing that, and the tuna-water thing too... When I do make broth, I let it cool enough to put it in freezer-safe mason jars and let them cool in the fridge, then freeze. (Your jars MUST be freezer-safe! Learn from my…

  • Do you like listening to music/podcasts/audiobooks? I listen to things on my headphones on walks because it helps distract me. Do you have an indoor rec center, or a mall nearby? You can walk around indoors! If you just don't like walking, try something different! It sounds like you might like yoga or pilates, since both…
  • When making curries I use the generic grocery store spice mix AND put in a tablespoon or two of curry paste. You can generally find red and green curry pastes in the international aisle of the regular grocery store, and it bumps up the flavor and heat. Also a vegetarian, and I tend to do this a lot with whatever veggies I…

  • @MikePTY how do you do that? I'm looking through the settings and don't see a way to turn them off? (Running iOS)
  • So prettyyyyyyy!
  • Chef's knife Is it cheating to say oven? The bottom coil of my oven is out, and I didn't realize it until it had been "preheating" for like 30 minutes, so I switched it over to broiling and I had my salmon done in 5 minutes. I use my oven probably more than any other tool. Probably a can opener too. I'm assuming my cat's…
  • Did you eat lunch? If you haven't you should start there. A 30-minute walk shouldn't make you ravenous. Are you counting calories? Weighing everything with a food scale?
  • We got a cat when I was a kid and my dad claimed for years that his judgment was impaired due to too many chocolate chip cookies.
  • Oh, also I'm wearing a blazer today that hasn't buttoned in years. I don't generally button it (looks better open, IMO), but I COULD.
  • The closer I get to my goal, I've realized I'm more likely to be like, "this is good enough! what's a few more lbs!" and go over my cal allowance. Yesterday I ate a lot of high-cal junk at work, but went for a couple of short walks, and was actually shocked at the end of the day to find out I made it all work and had a few…
  • I should have taken a photo, but yesterday was my first time using endive and radicchio! I made a shrimp salad with both + arugula, with orange slices. Wasn't crazy about the raw radicchio flavor, but I was pleasantly surprised at the gentle, clean endive flavor. Will buy again! Anybody have favorite ways of using/cooking…
  • One of our lazy meals is box mac 'n cheese. It started out with cutting half the butter. A while later we started adding a bag of frozen edamame (cooked) at the end. Then we started putting sriracha on the top. Now we're up to adding edamame and a second bag of frozen veg at the end, and dumping sriracha over it all! Point…
  • If you're walking to and from work every day, I wouldn't consider that sedentary at all! I also have a desk job, and I don't walk much of anywhere, but because I'm a fidgeter, I put myself at Lightly Active and have still been losing (0.5/week). I agree with PP that still losing inches isn't a plateau and that you're doing…
  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my daughter in August, sometimes just getting through the day is a win. Instead of focusing on losing, can you set your goals to maintenance for a while, until you feel ready to cope with fewer cals? That might give you flexibility with comfort food/the comfort of eating without allowing…
  • It's been a rough week, and there's ice cream in the fridge, but last night I hit my max calories at dinner and didn't snack or get dessert even though I really wanted to.
  • I went to a potluck so no photos of my pancakes (someone else made them) but they were enormous and full of chocolate chips, with syrup and whipped cream and berry compote... mmmmmm.
  • I also walk and talk when I get phone calls on my cell, even if it's just pacing circles around the house. When the weather isn't cruddy, I walk on my work breaks to get outside for a few minutes.
  • I'm a big fan of eating what I want - within reason. I personally don't do "cheat" meals because I don't deprive myself of what I want in the first place, I just eat small enough portions of whatever "it" is so that it fits within my goals, and if it's a little over, I just try to do better next time. MikePTY has good…
  • As someone who has to get fairly frequent colonoscopies: you do not want to do a colon cleanse.
  • Hummus also has a lot of calories...
  • If you eat dairy, that can help bulk up some meals - shredded cheese on top of stuff. Agree with Kathryn that nuts and nut butters would help too. Olive oils for cooking/salad dressings?
  • I recently learned that if you roast beets in the oven whole (minus the greens, with just the ends trimmed), it's SO much easier to get the skins off. Saves my cutting board/clothing/countertops - no more peeling in advance!
  • I did this just last week. Had two pieces over lunch at work. Was satisfied. But the pizza boxes were just sitting there, and they were looking at me! Had a third piece. I don't know if it was worth it, but I made it work?
  • Ah, beat me to it! :D
  • If you're only losing a small amount, set your stats to lose no more than .5 lbs. a week. It'll give you more flexibility with calories. Also eat back your exercise cals! But mostly, yeah, get a food scale.
  • Entries are all user-submitted. You can submit your own corrected entries and use those?
  • I am wearing pants that button today!!! (First day wearing non-maternity pants!)
  • I just decided yesterday that if I'm only using 1 or 2 cloves of garlic, I'm just not going to bother entering that in the recipe builder - because I tried to weigh it out after I chopped it and got 0 grams, so it's like, why am I spending all this energy on garlic!
