Congratulations on nearly 11 years!! I have 6 and a half, and am grateful for the program and the people I have met.

You have awareness and a desire to continue to be sober, and that is so important! May you have a wonderful and peaceful weekend! 😊🤗
-
I too am looking for friends for mutual support. Feel free to add me.

@jessicastanfill It's wonderful to hear about your first week! And you're right to anticipate future struggles. One way to prepare that I have found helpful is to have a plan ahead of time (such as having ready some kind of non-alcoholic treat for after work, or having an exit plan/reason for leaving if things get too…

@RubyRed427 Congratulations on your daughter's graduation and on your courage and decisions! You are a bright light in her life!

@FeelinFooFoo @RubyRed427 @kelagurl Those are inspiring steps you are taking! Thanks for sharing!

@RubyRed427 I hope all goes well with your son this week! It is a scary ritual, and it's scary and stressful to know we can't control what our children do (mine are 22, 20, and 16). But we can control our actions and be a model for them, as @walterm852 says.

A courageous and wise decision! Thanks for writing and for inspiring us "to have the courage to change the things we can"! 😊

I wish you all the best with AA and your AF journey. 😊 I've been going to AA for quite some time and find it so helpful. You are right to say don't be scared. And I would also say to those considering AA: Good meetings and people to connect with and offer support are out there (although sometimes it takes some searching).…

You're doing so many things right, and even if the number is going down, hopefully you're seeing and feeling results in other ways, which perhaps is more important than seeing the needle move. Have a fantastic Friday and weekend!

You're replacing the alcohol in your shopping cart and in your thoughts (what you're excited about and looking forward to). That is an important and awesome step your taking on your AF journey! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!😊 Max

I've been AF for over 6 years. Before that I was drinking almost every day, and frequently to excess (I often was not able to hit the off switch). Now, most days alcohol doesn't cross my mind. And when it does, it's fleeting. So there is hope that you're not doomed to thinking about it everyday for life.
-
@FeelinFooFoo Yes, we are here for each other. And it is wonderful that your partner is fully supportive!
-
You're absolutely right--it is a struggle to say "I'm never going to drink again." Perhaps it will help to say " I'm not going to drink today" and give it a while and then see how you're feeling.
-
@RubyRed427 Just a quick note to say it's inspiring and a wonderful sign that you're taking pleasure in non-alcoholic drinks like sparling water and tea! There are so many options out there!
-
@LC0924 @caroramitez @audreypawdrey @salleewins @donimfp Congrats on your milestones!! Inspiring!!
-
@VeggieGirlforLife You are coping with a very difficult situation in a loving and courageous way--you're changing what you can (your decision to be AF) and seeing that some things are beyond your control (your brother's drinking).
-
Your positive attitude and view looking forward are inspiring! Thanks so much! 😊
-
Very good decision! Not only with sending the alcohol home with your guests, but also letting family and friends know your preference to do so, which is not always easy.
-
You may be making some rookie mistakes on address-related matters, but that pales in importance to the excellent decisions you are making about alcohol in your new place! I think you are taking exactly the right approach. May you have a happy Easter, and enjoy the chocolate! My weakness is red jelly beans. 😊

Awesome and inspiring progress @razorcut !!

Congratulations on 12 weeks!
-
Please don't apologize! You are facing many challenges and I think it helps to talk about them. Congratulations on 35 days!! And I wish you all the best in the days, weeks, months to come!
-
@RubyRed427 Thanks for posting the Craig Ferguson clip and for the tip on Craig Beck's videos! @dbhDeb For me it was after a really bad event and it became clear that I didn't have control over my drinking. Prior to that I resolved many times to drink less or stop for a while, but always ended up not sticking to those…

It's wonderful to find this forum on MFP--so many insightful comments and resources. I've been AF since late 2012. Once the switch was "on" I always had great difficulty turning it off. I'm grateful to be able to say "no more" and for all the positive changes--physical and emotional--that have come from being AF, and I'm…
