Ok---slipping from doing much with AA--but still AF. Ok phone meeting in progress. Thanks for letting me be real here. I have been working on my diet and going through an elimination/healing program that Dr. Amy Myer's uses and has used for thousands, "The Myer's Way", that is showing benefit. Could never have even thought seriously about doing this while drinking. I really believe that I have thrown my system way off while binge drinking regularly for a long time. Maybe it was off some before that and supposedly alcohol was the easy way to fix it. NOT. I highly recommend anyone dealing with some sort of issue(s): depression, anxiety, food sensitivities, major stress, cravings, bloating, digestion issues, brain fog, autoimmune issues ETC. look into this Dr.'s work. She has reversed her own Grave's Disease.2

98 days (14 weeks) AF today - but - I hit my weight loss goal a little over a week ago and no longer find myself motivated to use this app. I am going to take a break from MFP (and their incessant blogs and ads) and hopefully never have to use this app for weight loss ever again.
Best wishes to all of you.

As of today, I've saved $1,921.00 and passed 1200.8 drinks. I wish I had literally saved that $$, but oh well...I didn't flush it down the toilet literally!! AND I did a conservative average of what I was actually drinking and spending because I didn't include entertaining in that mix.
ANYWAY, my liver has to be dancing for joy right now...
Hoping everyone has a great AF day
Just AMAZING!!! JOB WELL DONE!!!

Today is day 50 for me.. While on the day to day it went by slowly in the beginning, 50 days seemed to have happened in the blink of an eye.. I still remain at 11 pounds lost, which happened in the first 2 weeks on my very rigid diet.. So that is enraging.. But at least I no longer justify the lack of weightloss as an excuse to drink.. Is anyone else really struggling with the weightloss part? Ironically, this is my longest login streak, but only bc of checking in here, not logging food. I feel like sheerly cutting alcohol and the crap food choices that go with it should warrant more of a loss. And on top of that, I'm back to regular exercising a minimum of 3 hours a week, but typically 5 hours.. What gives?! I shouldn't have to have a perfect diet in addition to those changes to see the needle move.. However, I now work through that anger by running with my rage music at full eardrum breaking volume instead of having wine.. Hopefully the 10 miler I'm training for will kick things into gear.. Hope everyone has a great AF Friday!7

There is more to get excited about at the weekend than just 'oh this is my perfect opportunity to get hammered'.
The fact I am done with work for the week is enough of a reason to feel amazing! The fact I am free to spend my weekend doing whatever i want is good too. And actually, it's kinda nice knowing that I'm not shackled to a wine bottle this weekend.
My liver loves me right now. I think I'm their favourite person. Like. Ever. Lol. Yes iv had some cravings today, as it's Friday I guess but I have found other things to make me smile this weekend and I guess I'm gona have to get better at doing that. It's not all about alcohol.
You're replacing the alcohol in your shopping cart and in your thoughts (what you're excited about and looking forward to). That is an important and awesome step your taking on your AF journey!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!😊

You're doing so many things right, and even if the number is going down, hopefully you're seeing and feeling results in other ways, which perhaps is more important than seeing the needle move.
Have a fantastic Friday and weekend!6 -

Just checking in.... I’m doing fair but not great. I may not be on this thread too much. May is a huge month for me in many ways. I am going to go to AA this weekend. I have stumbled here and there, and I need support. I know people feel differently about AA but for me, even though I am not 100 percent AA fan, it suits my purpose of giving me a place where everyone is in the same boat. I also like the stories. They are sad but inspiring. If anyone just needs a place to go, shop around for a good AA meetings. They are so different. I tried many before I zeroed in on a city/ area that suited me and my personality. Also, dont be scared. AA people are usually welcoming. I like to sit quietly on the perimeter. And listen. I don’t participate much. Because it’s not in my comfort zone to talk in a crowd.
As for the other recovery suggestion that sounds great. I just don’t know where to find a meeting.
I had a lot of posts to read. I wish I could comment on them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I love this thread! Xo

This is what alcohol is to me.

Hi Everyone, Happy weekend! @RubyRed427 I absolutely love that. Anything that costs us our peace IS too expensive! Someone, somewhere compared alcohol to a loan shark. You can borrow that "good feeling" for a little while but you are going to pay back so much more in the form of lethargy, a hangover, self loathing, shame etc. Every time I have slipped I have come away with the thought, "that was so not worth it." It's beginning to really sink in for me. I wish you all a peaceful, sober Saturday and Sunday10
-
@RubyRed427, you’ve been a tremendous support to me and others since at least January ‘17. This is a time of such transition for you. May you avail yourself of any and all helpful avenues of support. Check in here when that feels right. You’ve got a whole group here supporting you in thoughts, prayers, or whatever individual ways we give support. And thanks for the wise second post.
As far as “stumbling,” I love Leonard Cohen’s philosophy: “There’s a crack in everything; that’s how the light gets in.” xoxoxo9 -
lorrainequiche59 wrote: »That is one of the key ingredients on this thread...lack of BS!!
Wait a second! No BS???? What the heck am I supposed to post then? Just doesnt seem fair to us "Complete BS'ers". I'm filing a formal complaint with management...
Day 54 ~ I am the worst person in the world when it comes to other people's struggles. I never know what to say. I usually just think, "Dang, that sucks..." and don't say anything.
It hurts to watch others struggle, and it really does suck not knowing what to say. For all of you that are having a hard time with this AF stuff, I hope it gets easier for you. That's about all I got.... I don't know where y'all may be on the religious scale, but I'm praying for you, that your burden eases up. Whether you believe in it or not, that's my highest form of caring. If I could do more, I would.
If you dont have an exercise regimen going, find a good CrossFit box and get involved. They're all different, each has it's own personality, so if you don't like the first one you try, keep searching until you find the right community. I started my own box three years ago, sold it last year, and took almost a whole year off, getting deeper in to the bottle... started back serious when I started this challenge. First month sucked bad. This month, much better. I recommend CrossFit for the community aspect of it... you're not just working out by yourself.
So, take as much or as little of that as you want, it didn't cost you anything but a minute or two...
Back to the standard BS, that apparently isnt allowed here...wink wink, nudge nudge
Day 54 ~ Completely awesome freaking day! Cooked egg white omelettes for the crew at work this morning. Crushed the partner WOD this afternoon. Looking forward to a bike ride, and a little shooting tomorrow afternoon. Headed back over to the Bahamas 6 weeks from today.
Ciao babies! (You had to be stationed with me in Italy back in '85 to be able to say that in the proper accent... long story, funny as crap, doesn't translate to text very well.)

GOOD Morn...all you BS-free people LOL
@RubyRed427 - I 2nd @JenT304 on your blurb about "peace" I actually took a pic of it cause I want to refer to it if need be...and there likely will be a "need be" at some point. For you @RubyRed427 this is a really tough life transition and I am so proud of you for reaching out to AA. Whether it is your cup of tea or not, you obviously see the value to use that as a support. AND that takes courage!
@kevinrfletcher I LOVE your sense of humor and underneath all that is a big 'ol softie...it is difficult to know how to say something helpful when others struggle, but you genuinely care and just that is enough!7 -

Thanks max, I have a sneaking suspicion I might put a lil bit of weight on during my weekends, but I'm gona enjoy them! Have a good weekend too 🙂
Cath
You are doing AWESOME!!! As far as the weight goes, one day at a time, one thing at a time...decide which takes priority and focus more on that for now and be kind to yourself. This is a big deal and you CAN do this!5 -
@lorrainequiche59, Maybe @kevinrfletcher thought BS meant "Big Softie" and was afraid he was banned from the group.7

Hey Everyone!
Just checking in at 16 months AF! I haven't counted days for a while now, but every once in a while I check to see how many months I happen to be at and today is 16 months exactly
For everyone just starting out...put your seat belts on! Your life will change in so many positive ways. My life has improved in every aspect, and I never would have imagined that to be the case in Jan 2018 when I left the wine at home as we headed out for a 2-week vacation. I didn't realize on that day that I also left behind a whole pile of mental and physical roadblocks as well.
Every single area of my life has improved. My relationships, my career, my fitness and health, my hobbies. I am in a really good place right now
Hope you are all having an amazing day!

I've been going to AA for quite some time and find it so helpful. You are right to say don't be scared. And I would also say to those considering AA: Good meetings and people to connect with and offer support are out there (although sometimes it takes some searching). We are not alone!
And take from AA what is useful for you, and leave the rest.

It's been since our Christmas party. I much prefer eating my calories versus drinking them.10

I'm watching the Kentucky Derby coverage. There sure is a lot of bourbon drinking going on. They all look so happy. I guess we won't be privy to the action going on in the later with people hurling all over those pretty dresses and hats.6

@kcn2bluesky, So exciting!! I referenced Jan 2017 in an earlier post but it was “just” 2018, wasn’t it? That is so awesome that you totally reset and have maintained being AF for 16 months. I started working on that back then but am just now on day 36. It’s very encouraging to read your post about how positive the change has been for you. It gives me hope and motivation
When this school year ends in a few weeks I need to travel to Virginia to see my sister-in-law with whom I went to Italy last year. Since our trip she and her husband both quit their high-powered jobs and actually bought a winery! They’re working super hard and are so proud of their wines and the improvements they’ve made to what was already a pretty successful vineyard. It will be really weird to celebrate their new venture while declining to taste the wine. Maybe I can taste and spit it out like the pros do. Or maybe I just avoid a visit till my sea legs are steadier. This is a bizarre dilemma.9 -
@donimfp that would be rough if my sister had a winery! But you can show your enthusiasm and support and still decline to taste the wine if that is your desire. I am sure they will be understanding.7

https://resources.facingaddiction.org/find-it/92630/celebrate-recovery-meeting-finder. Haven't tried a meeting yet, but plan to. Have company and will probably go this week when Sis goes home. Celebrate Recovery meetings are for people apparently with hurts to recover from, addictions etc. I was told that there is a meeting for men and women and then the women and men have their own groups afterwards. For those inclined the meetings are Christ centered.3

@RubyRed427 hugs and love!!

Happy Saturday everyone! Today was a good day, very busy, but good. I went for a 5.5 mile walk thanks to my husband's motivation even though we were both exhausted from a busy morning. And it re-energized me. Usually (before AF) I would 'reward' myself with wine. Today I squeezed in a 3 mile run with the last vestiges of daylight.. So all together, it was a 8.5 mile day! And now I'm relaxing with a mocktail- pineapple oj with strawberry-guava sparkling water.. pretty good13

I've been suffering through a few weirdly anxious days, about something that is seriously improbable. I have not had a bout like this for some time.
Anyone else have a brain that sometimes will not turn off? How do you deal with it --- without alcohol?9 -
Ive been reading all of your posts and can relate to all of it. I got serious about quitting the beer in January. I had a few drinking days the first 2 months and luckily pulled it back together. So I'm going on 2 full months of no drinking at all. Its a whole different life. I didn't drink in my 20s and killed it in my 30s. Im mid 40s and enough is enough. I went to a party last night and beer wasnt even a concern. The old me would have needed 3 minimum just to get out the door. Congratulations to all on your journey.7

Thank you for your kind comment, @donimfp! I like how you phrased it as a "reset". Yes, that is what it is, isn't it? After decades of routinely drinking, I do feel reset. AF is my new normal! No one around me expects me to be drinking anymore, not even when we go out for lunch at our favorite micro-brew eateries, not even at holidays, and not even at parties and events. The pressure is off now, and I haven't stressed about new situations since Christmas.
Day 36 is awesome! You are past the horrid first 2 weeks, and you have a month's worth of AF weekends behind you Hang in there! You're doing great!6
