I had no plans for New Year's Day, so I decided to be active. I did an unplanned (until 7 a.m. when I woke up) walk of 26 miles over many hills. A few years ago, this would have broken me.

I was relatively active over Christmas, but spent a lot of time with family away from home. My logging here has been weak. As COVID is so prevalent, I didn't get much climbing in. I did go on my little brother's home wall on Christmas day. I was terrifible on it - I need to practice crimpy overhangs. I decided to start the…

I lifted on Friday, doing: 3 sets of 5, bench, 55 kgs Deadlift, 1 set of 5, 120 kgs Hangboard. Yesterday, I did a 21 mile walk. My step count average has been over 21,000 a day for to the last few weeks. Today, I played on my home climbing wall for an hour. I hadn't used it for a while, I was out of practice at it. My…

Mine was reliable for a couple of years, but recently has gone to pot. It (this week) normally fails to sync; on Monday it claims is synced but gave me a 2,500 calorie adjustment. It should have been about 300, my target is 2,400 and the Fitbit estimate was 2,700. Since Monday, it has failed to sync.

I failed to climbing on Tuesday, as work was silly. I lifted instead, doing: Deadlift, 2 sets of 5 @ 100 kgs, 1 set of 5 @ 110 kgs. OHP, 3 sets of 5 @ 35 kgs. I tested my max reps for unweighted pull-ups. I got 18, I am definitely capable of more (my hand slipped on the last rep, my arms and shoulder felt ready for more.)…

I had my Covid booster this morning (It was Pfizer, my first two were Astra Zeneca.) I feel fine, so I'll go for a climb later. I went climbing on Sunday. It was fun. I tried a new gym (https://www.citybouldering.co.uk/). It is nice, reasonable selection of routes and completely empty on a Sunday. It's a feature of the…

I went climbing yesterday. It was fun, in a 2 hour session. I got a very fun slab that took ages to work out the route. I squatted today, doing 3 sets of 5 at 85 kgs. I deadlifted, doing 1 set of 5 at 110 kgs. I then went for a pretty long walk, getting 20 miles and loads of hills in.

I lifted weights last night. (I am weak, the drawback of being a 50 year old tinybro.). I did a spot of hangboarding, which was OK - my finger strength has improved recently. The main lifts were: Bench, 50 kgs, 3 sets of 7 Squat, 80 kgs, 3 sets of 5. The bar moved quite quickly on both lifts, so I may put more weight on…

It is indeed red!

Hello middle agers! I bought a new car recently. It is a Kia EV6, which will be delivered in February - my first electric car. It is a sensible family car, and the variant I went for does 0 to 60 in 5 seconds.

I went scuba diving on Sunday in a quarry to practice skills. I was terribly bad, my shutdowns were awful. I went climbing yesterday. It was fun, I was in form. They had reset in one room so the climbds in there were ungraded. I got some harder slab in that room. In the other room, I got some overhangs. I session flashed a…

I went climbing. It was a very good session - I got 4 new routes. They were ones I tried the previous session, but didn't get then. One was a session flash. I concentrated on overhangs again, and didn't have stacks of time available. So it was 70 minutes. Fitbit reckoned 112 average HR; 140 max. So not a ridiculous work…

@AnnPT77 - I'm interested in the discussion, so if you want to have it here, it is fine with me. I went climbing. It was a monstrous 2.5 hour session. I concentrated on overhangs, as I'm not very good at them and I want to improve. My little brother is the reason for the length. (I arranged to meet him at the gym, he…

I went climbing on Monday, and was really poor. I lasted 2 hours and was very pumped at the end. I lifted yesterday, doing: 2 sets of 6, bench, 50 kgs and 1 set of 5 3 sets of 6, deadlift, 100 kgs. I seem to have been averaging 20,000 steps a day recently, which is OK given I have a sedentary job.

Yesterday was a recovery day, so all I did was a very hilly 9 mile hike. Some would say I mis-timed it; I like walking at night so I am minded to disagree.

I went climbing. It was fun. I concentrated on v3-v5 graded ones, which are normally too hard for me. I tried 4, got 3 with a flash on one. The last one was my last climb of the day, after 100 minutes. I feel off the first move about 10 times, then unexpectedly got it. I also got some walking in, so I am now on 25,000…

I'm not sure what was disagreeable about this post other than my inability to type accurately on a phone. CC lumbing should, of course, have been climbing, and fir should have been for. I went for a walk before breakfast today, and I will lift weights over lunch, and finish up with an evening walk.
-
I went cc lumbing today. I wax terrible fir the first hour, but then I got a brief run of form and got two long term projects. It was a 100 minute session, good fun.

Diarrhea is genetic. It runs in your jeans.

I spent the weekend diving, practicing skills such as shutdowns in preparation for a course. I got a lot better at them, a bit more practice and I will actually be quite slick. I used not to be able to do them at all.

I went climbing on Wednesday with my little brother. It was good, I got a reasonable number of harder routes. 90 minute session. I lifted yesterday, doing 3 sets of 5 (bench), 50 kgs 3 sets of 5 (deadlift), 100 kgs. It was my first lifting session for a while, I seem to be fairly weak.
-
For the calories burned lifting weights, I think it may be amenable to a direct calculation. For example, consider a typical deadlift session (for me) - I may do 3 sets of 5 @120 kgs. In this case, the work done each deadlift will be around 10 meters per second squared (force of gravity, roughly as this is just a ballpark…

Updating here is hard now the app doesn't work. Climbing last on Thursday was brilliant fun. I'm not 100% sure of all the grades, as they had reset one of the two rooms and they keep the climbs untagged for a couple of weeks after a reset. I have now got all the 5/5+ graded routes at the gym. I'm not sure I had the right…

On Sunday, I did 15 miles walking. On Monday, I felt like death warmed up and did very little. On Tuesday, I felt recovered after a decent night's sleep. I went climbing, I was OK but not at top form. (I got two graded v2-v4, but nothing harder.) I lasted 2 hours. On Wednesday, I did a shorter walk (around 8 miles). Today…

I found a belt that fits! My waist circumference has been 28 inches for a while, since I finished my diet around 3 years ago. Small adult male belts, even those that brand themselves as 28 inches at the tightest, have all proved to be too loose. I found one marketed for teens which is small enough, and smart enough to wear…

On Thursday, I went for a climb. I got a bit carried away, and lasted 2.5 hours, getting super pumped by the end. On Friday, I tried the active recovery thing by going for a walk. I got a but carried away, and managed 25,000 steps on a workday. Today, a friend asked if I fancied kayaking on the Thames. We got a bit carried…

I suspect the level of mass someone can safely carry is very individual to that person. I used to be overweight, but not obese. My BMI was 28, but I was on the verge of diabetes. So I went on a diet and started to exercise a lot. I cut to a BMI of 21 (142 pounds), and have stayed there for the last 3 years. My blood…

Here is an out of focus shot of me from the weekend. I didn't do much exercise last night, as I signed up for a ghost walk around my town. It was interesting - there is apparently a friendly ghost on my street. (It' Sergeant Green, who was killed in riots by Canadian soldiers against the police station just after the end…

I spent the weekend "dry" caving in the Medips in Somerset. It was really good fun - I ended up joining the caving club. We did a very small portion of Swildon's Hole on Saturday and a bit of GB on Sunday. I was filled with energy on getting home, so went to my local climbing gym. I should have checked online - it was shut…

I am back from Norwich again. I was reasonably active there, but missed climbing. Mum's biopsy was negative, fortunately. I went for a climb this evening. It was good, I got around 6 of the ones graded at 6a/6b. It was a pretty short session - about 70 minutes. I gave a lift to a mate who is more out of practice than me,…
