  • Must be a “girl power” thing…
  • Why do you find this funny?
  • Yes. My wife told me she wanted a Peloton. Instead of just buying one, she discussed it with me. I bought it for her on her birthday. That makes me a sexist, inconsiderate pig…
  • My wife and I discuss major purchases before we buy them. It keeps us out of debt and allows us to live a comfortable life. However, I do often buy my wife gifts to show how much I love her. Sometimes those gifts are useless junk, but it’s the thought that counts. I often buy her flowers, which I know will die, but it is…
  • You said,[”Cowboy up like a truly sexy man and say, "Hey, babe, let me clean up dinner and do the dishes while you work out." Also works for laundry!“]. As if I was a selfish husband who let my wife do all the chores while I had plenty of free time… Also, I’m not trying to fix my wife’s motivation problem by buying a bike.…
  • She won’t set a goal for some reason. I think she buys into the marketing where the models make riding a Peloton look like riding an amusement park ride. And if she just spent $1500, she would be a happy model as well. I’ll just chalk this one up to me being a good husband. However, no more wasted money…. Besides the…
  • Doing 20 minutes of intense cardio twice a week is a good starting point for a beginner…
  • Point taken. Probably should trade in the wife and keep the Peloton…
  • Already done that. She doesn’t want my help; besides agreeing to buy things. Besides, there is nothing to it…. but to do it. I like talking with strangers on the internet because I get honest, unbiased answers…
  • It’s nonstop with her. She complained she didn’t have a gym membership, so I got her one that she never uses. She complained going to the gym was uncomfortable, so I got her a Peloton that she doesn’t seem interest in. Now she complains that she doesn’t have a trainer and won’t let me get a trainer unless I get her one.…
  • I do those things already. She has plenty of time to get on a Peloton for 20 minutes 2 times a week. I think this is more about finding an excuse to not exercise than having a heartless, selfish, sexist husband…
  • I couldn’t get to your suggestion because I was so offended by your first comments…. Where you basically call me a sexist pig… I’ve obviously asked her, and she says she hasn’t had time yet. Basically, “exercise is hard and buying a peloton didn’t make it easier”. And she says she “will do it later”.
  • I don’t view my wife this way. I’m trying to understand sunshine’s logic…
  • So if my wife takes all our money and burns it, I can’t say anything because it’s ours? If she is acting like a child demanding toys, I can’t talk about her as such?
  • I was once arrested for peeing near a school after midnight. I have to register as a sex offender. Kinda the same feeling…
  • I’m 45 and have done deadlifts since 16. I never had a problem either. Until one day…. Pop! It happened so fast and laid me up for 2 weeks…. Talking with doctors and chiropractors during the aftermath, they all said going heavy at my age is a bad idea. Even my trainer told me they don’t know any long time weightlifter that…
  • No hack squat at my gym. Thinking trap bar deadlifts are the answer… Currently, I’m deadlifting because every program tells you to deadlift. I’ve been told too many times on this forum that you shouldn’t change a proven program…
  • 3 days for me. Not enough time with work, kids, and cardio. How do people make time for 5 days a week? Garage gyms?
  • I was doing a 3day PPL, but people on here told me it’s not optimal to only work muscles once a week. I am trying to move to upper lower 3day. However, I’m thinking about a 3day full body if I can find a good program…
  • I was doing strong lifts 5x5 and was deadlifting 350x5. I hurt my back warming up at 315. I currently am only lifting 300x8 as I’m afraid to go heavier…. And I am always worry if “today is the day” my back goes out again…
  • Sounds like the smith machine is not the answer. Maybe a trap bar…
  • There is a difference between standing from the loo vs standing from the loo with 315lbs on your back. A difference between pick up a garden pot and picking up 400lbs. I want to progress, but at my age, even with good form, the risk of injury is getting too great.
  • Nope. My mind was made up that deadlifting has some risk involved, but that is a fact. My mind is not made up as to whether I should use the smith machine or barbell. I would like to know how much benefit I am giving up using the smith machine instead of the barbell so I can weight the risk vs. the reward in order to make…
  • I have doctor bills…. If you can’t progressive overload, you won’t progress. You can’t progressive overload unless you put weight on the bar. A lot of people I talk to say if you go heavy on deadlift, you will injury yourself even now and then…. Everyone’s form will slip once or twice if you lift a lot…
  • Ripptoe called it useless… I’m thinking or using it to replace squats and deadlifts for a while to give my lower back a rest. Hopefully I won’t lose all my strength…
  • Deadlifts and squats are too hard to learn. Too much risk of injury. I want something easy and safe…. But still want deadlift and squat benefits…. Those other exercises are also complicated…
  • What if your form is bad? Wouldn’t a smith machine at least hold to correct bar path? Would it be better to do squats on a smith machine than free bar with bad form?
  • Pull day Deadlifts, pull ups, rows, Seated rows, pulldowns, bicep curls, hammer curls, abs…. 3sets 10 reps, increase weight when I hit all sets Push day Incline bench, bench, push-ups, flys, tricep extensions, abs… 3.sets 10 reps, increase weight when I hit all sets Legs/shoulders day Leg press, calf’s, hip thrusts, leg…
  • Chicken is very cheap. I get boneless chicken for $2 a pound. That’s 40-50g or protein for $1. Hard to beat. Lately I’ve been putting it into a soup with canned veggies to help me get more veggies. One pot will give me 7 50g lunches for about $15
