  • I kept this thread open on my computer till I had a chance to follow this link, and it was worth it. Worth reading the entire post, but here's the part I copied and pasted into a document I have, so that I can share it with friends who ask me how I lost my weight. "- At least 0.6-0.8g protein per pound of healthy goal…
  • Magnesium supplements for a week helped my daughter when she had jaw tension.
  • A few people mentioned strength training. It's high on my list, although admittedly I'm just getting back to a somewhat proper progressive load routine, I was haphazard and lazy/cautious for quite a while after a sedentary period. I noticed it wasn't on your list. If it's because you think you need a gym for strength…
  • Thank you for sharing your story with us. Incredible determination. I'm very happy for you. Best of luck with your musical career. Is Isala your name by chance? I tried googling (and did find Isala's) but no one that looked like you. You might be right about providing a link, but I don't think it would break the rules if…
  • I had sleep problems last winter (averaged 5 hours a night for weeks, 6 hrs was a decent night). For me the solution was to exercise more/sit less. I felt so terrible though (headachy) that I had trouble exercising. A long walk was all I could manage. I tried to get the walk in during the sunniest part of the day (ideally…
  • I’m another who can’t eat fast carbs in any quantity without triggering cravings.
  • I’m trying to work on my BF% right now (weight is fine). I suspect the optimal way to do it would be gain/cut cycles but I’m trying recomp. Just going to make sure I stick to my planned strength training workouts and meet my daily protein targets. In the “one weird trick” category, I just heard on Huberman Lab podcast…
  • Hi. I'm a binge eater in remission (5 months +). My triggers are desserts and sweets, and of course emotional situations. I'm eating lowish carb (but not Keto), avoiding my triggers entirely, and journalling when I'm upset. I have been spotty about logging and signing into MFP but am going to try harder to log starting…
  • For added protein, I put lots of hemp seeds in my oatmeal (as well as berries and flax, psyllium and chia).
  • Thank you. I'm aware that OA exists, but haven't really looked into them. Bright Line Eating is new to me. I'll look at both of them. I'm feeling quite in control right now, but more information could prevent future problems.
  • I can abstain much more easily than I can moderate. So OP's advice is bang on for me. I've given up coffee and tea (other than herbal), sweets and treats (including the salty kind), and alcohol. Never smoked. It's now easy to maintain a very slow very steady weight loss. I'm incredibly happy with this approach. Yesterday I…
  • I've don't know about Whole Foods (none near me), but I've used the pickup service at my local Walmart (in Canada) at various times during the pandemic and while the service is free above a certain amount, the online price is higher than the in-store price, so I think they get you one way or another.
  • I’m a nobody, but fwiw, thank you for volunteering your time and energy in making masks. That act says good things about your character.
  • Hemp hearts (10g protein for 3 tbsp,180 cal), green peas (8.6g for 1c, 134cal)
  • I still have trouble maintaining my weight when life is stressful. I have had better luck finding ways to reduce stress. But I do have suggestions to address your sleep problems, or rather, I’m happy to share what worked for me (ymmv). I had a horrible winter with many weeks when I averaged 5 hours a night. I’m much better…

  • Raw cashews and water whipped up replaces cream for us. Nutritional yeast or hummus in place of cheese. We have an assortment of milks but have settled on oat milk in our oatmeal, soy milk in coffee.
  • Cashews! Just now I pulled out all my various bags of nuts and compared them and none of the others came even close to cashews by serving size or by calorie. I’m surprised, and delighted actually.

  • I’m not quite 60 and find it harder than it used to be, in some ways, to lose weight. My tolerance for things seems to be lower. I can’t tolerate noise as well as I used to be able to, temperature extremes etc., including hunger. I’m less healthy than I once was and it affects a variety of things. I can’t tolerate keto for…
  • Has life changed for you since your weight loss? Are you more energetic? Have any health markers improved? Has your confidence increased? Fantastic job btw. I’m proud of you and we’ve never even met!
  • Journaling is my most effective habit when I’m seeking comfort. It’s like I turn into my own therapist. But I have to get in the habit of doing it frequently, or I forget about it and seek something that feels a little self destructive. Actually, I’ve been in that indulgent, slightly self destructive mode for quite some…
  • @NovusDies and others with foot problems: Have you tried Hoka shoes? They were game changers for me. Expensive, but cheaper than orthotics, and more effective in my case. Also re: dog droppings on and near trails. We have a gorgeous paved trail through the woods near me, but it’s less stress on my foot to walk just beside…
  • Oh no! That’s very concerning. Fingers crossed that it’s not Covid, or at least that you don’t get it. I don’t know what your relationship with your MIL is like or how available testing is in your area, but ideally, she’d get tested. Today if possible.
  • Well done!
  • Sometimes I bring a container with me and tell them I’m too full to eat it right now but I don’t want to miss out, and would it be ok if I take some home? Then the next day I have at least a mouthful (or more of course) and then text them a thank you.
