This has pretty much been my experience too. Slowly, over two and a half years, I've increased my net carb intake from 20 to where I can usually take in 170g of mostly healthy carbs or so a day without setting off an undesirable insulin response that feels like hunger, but is really just carb cravings. Prolonged higher…

Fat loss is a journey. Getting tied up with trying to hit your macros exactly just makes that journey harder to traverse. Don't get me wrong, macros are an important and helpful guide. Straying a little off the numbers won't matter much in the long run. Exceed the calories a bit, or come up a little short on protein for…

Snacks, specifically chips, are my personal Rubicon. Once I get going on some ultra processed junk, it's misery time so I try to avoid as much as I can make myself. There are some good ideals offered on this thread so I've book marked it for future reference as needed. My go to chip replacement is popcorn, lightly oiled…

How much $$ do you charge?

Maybe you know the OP's details and can offer this advice without concern. For others reading this thread, it is very unhealthy to run a deficient of 500-1000 calories a day unless very obese. The OP made a statement that she needs to lose 30 more pounds and has hit a plateau. That doesn't sound like someone new to losing…

^^^ What they have said. Looking at other threads in the forum, you will see suggestions to look at 4-6 week averages of weight loss and calories consumed. Adjust as needed to keep good nutrition, meet your energy needs, and maintain desired fat loss rate. If you have a lot of fat to lose, a greater percentage of your…

It was normal for me, but everyone is different and responds differently to changes in what and how they eat. When I learned how to control the swings in my blood sugar 2 years ago, I was surprised to discover what I had always thought was hunger was really carb cravings from insulin resistance. It was sometimes difficult…

I think I'm going to puke. That said, I hope we all had a fun Groundhog's Day yesterday. I'm optimistic I'll still be around for the next one. Maybe.

@ddsb1111 That really is a outstanding reply! The kind of first person account of what does and what doesn't work that can help a lot of folks that find themselves in the same scenario as the OP's. Since the question pops up every few days, I hope you'll repost it when it does.

No. My forever-way-of-eating includes weekends. It is what and how I need (and want) to eat daily. I do adjust the amount as my activity level fluctuates from week to week.

Excellent post. Now 67, I've been there, done that, and still have a drawer full of 3X Extra Large T-shirts. Every so often, I would force myself to get some exercise and cut my food intake, but it never lasted. Just too hard, too inconvenient, too time consuming. All of it too stressful to keep it up for any length of…

Wow. yirara took the time to try to help you out with some spot on observations and sound advice. There is nothing hurtful or shaming about it. Shocking that you found it so. Maybe you should have posted up at: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/categories/motivation-and-support to get the encouraging ideas and support…

@AnnPT77, the resource you posted appears to be very good. Thank you!

First, I would take care of the hunger. Eat something nutritious and log it. Exercising some helps too if the hunger is really disguised carb cravings. To me, going over my calories for a day or two is less of a concern then that I might get hungry enough to cram a bunch of not so good snacks in my mouth. Then I would try…

Ann, thank you for taking the time to help resolve my confusion on what ddsb1111 was saying in the previous post. I have never really understood the emotional approach to eating that others talk about, (and at 67 probably never will). I'm assuming (with trepidation) that any of the Eating Disorders being talked about are…

I'm confused by what you have labeled as a belief system. Seems you are saying that you had been determining what you could/should consume by how you felt emotionally about that particular item as opposed to your actual experience on how different foods affected your health. On the other hand, maybe you were just talking…

#1) Air Fryer - Can't believe this hasn't appeared on everyone's list. So fast, easy and healthy. #2) Spinach - A mainstay of my forever-way-of-eating. I like zapping in the MW for :30 first. #3) Steamed Broccoli - Great ready made snack to have pre-made. Prefer steaming in MW from fresh. #4) Edamame - Another great low…

I've always been in the camp that believes that if I'm not being paid enough for the work I do, then I need to find something that does. Who am I to argue against anyone staying in low paying, unsecured employment if that is what they want? There are a lot of other, good jobs out there. It's just not for me. Neither is…

We're leaving in 2 days to a Playa del Carmen all inclusive. It is what it is. I just hope to stay away from the mixed drinks while there and get some exercise most days. I'll work on core strength (and general strength) when we get back. I hope you have a good time and do not worry about things while there. It's not worth…

As noted by others, everyone is different. What symptoms are manifest in your IR? General dietary guidelines are for the public at large and do not work for individuals with specific conditions like IR. You'll need to do a little experimenting with how restricted your carb intake needs to be to keep your blood glucose down…

Happy {Belated} Birthday to you Ann. Hope you had a good one despite the head cold. I am amazed that you were still rowing outside this late into the year. Would think you've already seen some snow flurries up there. That is some dedication! Happy Thanksgiving, too.

I don't worry about it. What's past is past. I'll log the over indulgence (making my best guess at what and how much I just ate) and try a little harder to not consume foods I know will set off my carb cravings. Maybe even eat a bit under my normal deficit for a few days as long as I'm getting enough fiber/protein and my…

First thing is I am confident that my bride of 45 years is mature enough not to think of anyone as "gross". Second, I don't diet. That tends to imply a temporary change in eating to reach a goal (so that a person can look better) then go back to eating the same things that made them overweight in the first place. A…

@ToffeeApple7, that is an excellent suggestion. Since entering maintenance a couple of months ago, my, unplanned, mindless snacking has been getting out of hand. And too much of it has been unhealthy, carby junk that sets off cravings. Going to give your method a try for the next couple of weeks to see if it helps. Thanks.

Ann is absolutely correct (as usual) in her comments above. We don't burn all that many calories during exercise. What exercise does for us is make us fitter. Healthier. More apt to be active throughout the day, thus burn off more energy. For me, it also reduces my hunger. I use to weigh over 300 lbs and have a resting…

You can weigh how ever you want, but be sure to use the right way to log it (cooked or raw). I use the USDA's database because it is the most accurate in my opinion. It provides data for most meats with different amounts and methods of preparation, cooked, or raw. Dig around their site. It is a great resource:…

I thought compression shirts were more about making the stomach area look slimmer. Suppose they might also help with moobs (gynecomastia) before fat loss?? After 120 lb loss on a 5'10" frame, I'd rather keep mine covered with a loose shirt and keep my belly flap tucked in. I've started to wear a swim shirt when at a public…
