Good shoes..go to a running store and get fitted...run/walk method if you are just starting out or try Couch or 5k (C25K) Never increase running distance by more than 10% a week and listen to your body. Yes, I used to hate running. Now I hate injuries that prevent me from running.

Insanity work outs... I'll burn 500-520 cals for 39-41 minutes. This is comparable to fast runs for the same period. A run at a 6.8mph pace might put me at 30-40 calories more.

I couldn't meet my protein macros for the day without it so for me it isn't wasted calories. For the past 3 months I have been doing alternating days of strength training and cardio routines mixing in P90X plyo and kenpo on days when I'm feeling too bruised to run. Its quite simple really..how bad do you want it? If you want it bad enough, then you'll do what it takes to get there. Not saying its easy.
