No more than calorie counting or any other form of weight maintenance. You stop any of those and you’ll likely gain the weight back, too.

I'm 5' 7 1/2", 55 years old and weigh 222.2 (weighed this morning for the first time in months). I'm actually just starting today and saw this thread. What amazing inspiration you all are! I hope to be posting my pictures in the coming months. I need to lose about 60lbs and hope I can do it with MFP and some hard work!…

I'm doing IF along with CICO. There are actually some great physiological benefits from fasting, but weight loss isn't necessarily one of them. I like it because it suits my personal eating style. I like to condense my caloric intake to a shorter eating window (between 12pm and 8pm) because I can eat larger meals. I also…

I'm 54 and new (again) to MFP. I have about 65lbs to lose and am trying to just cut my calories and start moving more. I know it'll come off if I just stick with the plan. I have my annual physical this coming Tuesday, so I'll have some blood work done that I can compare to after I lose the weight. I've been diagnosed as…

I'm 54 too! I live in the Los Angeles area and have just recently starting using MFP again. Calorie counting and Intermittent Fasting. One week in and down 3lbs! Feel free to add me!

Looking wonderful! And happy! :)

Thanks for all the comments so far! I have to say, the best thing about having done low carb/high fat, is it made me switch to eating whole, non-processed, healthy foods. I rarely eat anything with wheat in it anymore and I always try to eat grass fed beef, chicken and butter. etc. I eat healthy foods, and don't plan on…

I had a feeling Low Carbers/LCHF people would be the first to comment! ;) I'm well aware of the need for a calorie deficit with any plan. My point is, LCHF just doesn't work for me in general. I find it difficult to stay in a calorie deficit while eating high calorie foods (butter, coconut oil, avocado, bacon, etc.). I…

Very inspiring story! I just re dedicated myself to weight loss and am following the MFP calorie goal daily. Your story has given me even more motivation to keep going. Thanks for posting!

Great job! You look wonderful!

Hi everyone! I just found this thread and thought I'd join in! I'm Anne, 54 years old, from Los Angeles. I'm restarting my weight loss efforts - again - and hope this time around I do it for good!

Great job! That's the best feeling, isn't it? :)

I just started doing 16:8 this week. It's only been a couple of days, but so far, so good. I have found that I don't mind waiting until noon to eat and stopping at 8pm, although a little more difficult, is doable. I'm also trying to restrict my calories during the feeding time to 1500 and will try to only eat real, whole…

I'm 5' 8" and would be happy with 155 but really would love to be closer to 145.

I'll check it out!

I've never tracked the sugar before, since I eat a high fat / low carb diet, but I just added the column in to see since I really had no idea. Based on my diary for the past couple of weeks, I eat less than 20g of sugar a day. It's usually around 12 - 13. Then again, I don't eat any foods that have added sugar or foods…

Sent you a friend request... :) Anyone else can send me one if you want, too.

The original post was 3 years ago....someone trying to sell something reposted it, how annoying.

It would be hard to say unless I knew exactly what you were eating. When you say "gluten free," does that mean you're eating gluten free packaged foods? If so, you have to beware because they contain a lot of other flours like potato, rice, tapioca, that are high in carbohydrates, which could be affecting your weight loss.…

I eat a low carb diet. I try to stay at 50g or less a day. Also, I work out about 4 mornings a week at a boot camp and contrary to what the other poster said on here, it hasn't been detrimental to my performance at all! Last year I started a low carb diet and lost 36 pounds in 4 months with no exercise. I mistakenly…

I do a pretty hard core boot camp every morning, before breakfast, and I eat less than 50g of carbs a day. I have tons of energy during class and throughout the day, so for me, eating refined foods with carbs is not necessary. You can get plenty of the nutrients and fibers (and carbs) you need from "real" food (nothing…

Ha! I just bought a new digital scale yesterday because I was the same way. I'd go months without weighing myself and just going by how my clothes fit! That didn't work...I lost 36 pounds but gained back 22. Telling myself the clothes are smaller because they just came out of the dryer is not the way to go! LOL. I actually…

How tall are you? I'm 5' 8" and even if I lose 20 pounds, not only does no one notice, but I don't go down a size in clothes. As a matter of fact, last year I lost 36 pounds in 4 months (I've gained back 22 but am back on the wagon!) and I barely went down a size. I was in an 18 and could kind of fit into a 16. Still, I…

Thanks for the comment and suggestion, however for me, eating a low carb/high fat diet is the way to go. Last year after eating this way for 6 months, I had a physical and compared to the previous year, my blood work improved, my weight went down and I felt the best I had in years. I only started gaining the weight back…
