  • i do not use it everyday, but it's a great investment. I was surprised how much I underestimated meats and how I overestimated things like fruits and veggies.
  • Sure. I loathe running. Along with eating at a deficit I walk or bike to lose weight.
  • Little late here, but a few months back I had a frozen shoulder. After I was cleared by the doctor I started reformer Pilates with positive results. The instructors really take care of me, making sure I used less bands or make modification to some exercises. as to not hurt my shoulder. There are hundreds of exercises that…
  • The beginning of September is in less than 2 days. You want to lose 23 lbs in the next week?
  • I weigh and measure as much as I can. Then use the recipe option. It's tough because DH does most of the cooking and doesn't measure. GRR. He is a chef so his estimates are fairly good, but I still pad the numbers on such things like butter or oil because I have a feeling he is using more than he wants to admit.
  • Ditto. Salt and pepper the chicken and then throw it on a George Forman Grill. I guarantee it will taste better than out of a microwave. The little bit of extra time will be worth it. As for the topic question, I find I enjoy vegetables and fruit a lot more than I did in the past. I would not say I enjoy food in general…
  • It might be a sugar low. I have hypoglycemia. If I eat bagels pancakes/french toast with syrup or OJ I have a sugar low a 45-90 minutes later. I've avoided those items for years now. If I eat yogurt, eggs, fruit or milk I'm fine. ETA - when I do have low blood sugar (shakes) I drink milk, eat cheese or yogurt. It helps…
  • I'm not surprised at Louisiana at all. I lived there for 17 months and put on weight. The food culture there is far from healthy (at least in the NOLA area). In January we moved to Indiana. Honestly, it's a much healthier lifestyle for us. With all the farms around healthier foods are fresh and less expensive. Where we…
  • Yep (excapt biscuits with sausage gravy - yuck). I figure if you haven't eaten all day you have the calories to spare. Even if you don't one day shouldn't hurt you long term.
  • I'm not jumping on any bandwagons but yeah, get a scale. You would be surprised how off your serving sizes are off. It goes both ways. I found out I could eat a lot more veggies than I thought. On the other side my meat servings were bigger than I thought.
  • You can add me Age 44 SW 160 CW 144 GW 135 I just started in June. Have been 144 for about 2-3 weeks now. About 2.5 years ago I was 135. Between 2 moves and a less active job I put on some pounds. Trying to get back down to below 140. But my main goal is just to be more active and eat healthier most of the time.
  • I agree our culture plays a part in obesity. I just don't agree restaurant portions is entirely to blame or even mostly to blame. We do not move like we use to either. There are so many products/services out there to make our lives easier and save time we don't move anymore. For example, I work from home now. If it wasn't…
  • This is me also. Sunblock and lots of water is the extent of my beauty routine.
  • Ha. I'm not far behind and I haven't mastered them yet. They started out every 28 days, no cramps, no food craving, no fatigue, no moodiness and fairly light. I barely knew it was that time of the month. Now? FML. They come every 17-33 days (honestly it's a surprise every month these days), so heavy I have to change the…
  • I've lived in quite a few cities and states. Finding a place that just sells a slice is much easier in some places. for example New York City, than others places like a small town in Indiana.
  • I weight pretty much every thing I eat at home. At first I seemed to underestimate some items, overestimate other. After 2 months I've gotten much better at estimating. Just the other day I pulled out exactly 2 oz of pasta, I was pretty proud of myself. I've decided weighing foods at home with continue for a while in the…
  • 64-96 oz a day. I pee so much now I can't imagine drinking more than triple that. And it is possible to drink too much water. My 4'10" grandmother had water intoxication by drinking close to a gallon of water a day. It was just too much for her. Now the line of too much varies for each person. 10-12 glasses could be too…
  • What is strange to me is most "meat eaters" also eat chicken and/or fish. I eat meat, but I would say it's only 1-2 times of week. Most of my meals have fish or chicken. In addition to that, there are a lot of recipes that include mammal meat that can and often are substituted for chicken or fish. IDK, It seems silly to…
  • I switch between: Fage greek yogurt with fresh berries 2 scrambled eggs. Sometimes I add bacon and/or a piece of toast toaste with jam Banana or apple
  • I''m sorry for your loss. I also completely understand your concern. Unfortunately, the only thing you can do it lead by example. Both my husband and mother are obese (mom is morbidly obese). Both of them have health problems. While the health issues are not a direct result of their weight, the weight do not help the…
  • I sort-of did. I had some "unhealthy" things left in my pantry and fridge. On top of that I had a food function to attend on a Friday night. So I told myself I was going to start the new journey on Saturday. Basically, I used those few days to clean out the pantry as to not waste food. The pantry wasn't really that full,…
  • I do not label it as cheating. I just call it living life. Eating well 80-90% of the time allows me to enjoy normal life like going out to lunch with my friends or DH without worry. I don't plan them out or pick a certain day of the week where i can eat whatever. I just go with the flow.
  • I bought the Biggest Loser one from Bed, Bath and beyond using a 20% coupon. It cost less than $15. It works fine for what I need. It has ounces, grams and tare function.
  • My DH noticed after the first 5lbs, but not between 6-16 lbs. My co-workers in New Orleans who I had not seen since April noticed as soon as I got off the plane. We just moved here, so the friends where don't have a frame of reference.
  • Ditto. I've never enjoyed running so I bike, power walk or do the elliptical instead. My knees are happier with my choice also. Win-win.
  • Somethings are a learning experience, some people have ED. You didn't seem to understand at first either or every "diet" you did in the past wouldn't have failed. It's not really hard to understand. Hopefully people will read these type of forums and see the light. On another note, my 5'11" 275lb husband just got back from…
  • As far as weight loss - calories in, calories out. I think better food choices make a difference on how I feel. Now that I'm eating less fried foods, sugary desserts (not completely stopped) I feel better and have more energy. The more vegetables and fruit I eat, the more I crave them. They also keep me full longer so I'm…
  • Personally, I would find it boring, but as long as you get all your nutrients and calories there is nothing wrong with eating the same thing everyday. For me I change it up a bit. There was a sale on Fage yogurt so I've been eating that with some fruit most morning this week. Last week I was on an egg kick. Most weeks I…
  • I don't feel like this has to be an all or nothing issue. It's a rare day that DH and I have the exact same meal. We have completely different tastes. Plus he is a chef, so he can and will just make his own meal anyway. A typical meal for us would be us eating some of the same stuff, but not all. For example, last night we…
