Increase fat calories. You may want to stay away from all anything challenges.

Yes. Get enough protein to maintain lean body mass, however

Congratulations and happy keto day!

The 7 part video series is a great watch as well

First - I record what I eat as accurately as possible. By default that counts calories, but that isn't my motivation. Information is why, and knowledge is power. If you want to get your finances in order, if you say at the end of the month "I have no idea where my money goes?!" - then that is a large taproot of your…

Good call. Or perhaps there is a better one? Still sticking to real food, though that is somewhat swimming upstream, even in this community.

Cheating got me to 350 plus pounds. Why bother?

I miss pie sometimes. And bread. Beer is simply liquid bread. There are lower carb substitutes. But it's in the rear view mirror for me because I want to LIVE. YMMV

Plan plan plan plan, or you will go off plan and do so in a big way. On the one hand I'm with Gale, get back on afterwards and you'll be fine. On the other hand, I have a life long history of yo yo dieting and morbid obesity - this is literally life and death and I travel a LOT so I have to have a strategy. If I walk into…

When I (we) was (were) younger we could handle the carbs OK (less badly), but they still took their toll on us physically (look up what excess carbage and processed food does to the body). It just doesn't show up till the damage is mostly done and the scale is begging for mercy. Morbid obesity and / or health issues pushed…

Logging is easy. I do it because I want objective measurements. If I have results I like or love, I want to know WHY!!! No guessing! Knowledge is power in this regard. So logging is a privilege not a punishment. Just eating without attention is what got me to 350+ pounds. No more! And as I near maintenance logging will…

Shamrock shake?!? WTH?!? I'm sad, but actually a bit angry as well. Shamrock shake?!? Really?!?

Salad and the toppings - FTW!

Hang on to that husband!

Congratulations on maintaining your loss! Huge deal, imo.

Welcome! The freedom of not feeling like I "NEED" carbs is so huge for me... this low carb lifestyle is addictive in the best possible way!

Not only can I buckle my airline seat belt, but got to snug it up a little!

Caffeine does not affect ketosis. Carbs do.

In May I will spend 2 weeks in Bonaire, in the Southern Caribbean. We will stay in an apartment on the water and we will scuba dive our faces off. But I digress. .... We have a kitchen. I will freeze 50lbs or so of steak, chicken, etc. and bring it with is. (Meat is stupid expensive.) We will shop at the local grocery…

Love love love this post.

This. Percentages only don't give you a clear picture of your intake. And they thus can lie.

This.

I survived Mexico! Have a plan. How important is it to you to stay keto? Life and death for me. Salads. Meat. Ask for extra. I would order 5 tacos and ask for the meat, guac, onions, and cilantro to be put on a plate - no tortillas. No one batted an eyelash. "Potatoes and rice and bread are bad for me." Say that. People…

I love them way too much too. Gotta say no for now.
-
Too bad. Keep calm, and keto on! The best response to misinformation is transformation!

FitGoat for the win! You just made my heroes list. And that is why cheats terrify me. Instead of 10 lbs to goal I'm now 17. I'm like an alcoholic deciding to get hammered to ?????? Yo yoing and waking up in a carb induced fog 6 months later with depression and self loathing is a cycle I am done with. "Hi, my name is Tom…

No such thing as too low carbs. A good target is 20 grams total, and I will occasionally hit 30. Find your ideal protein range (sex and height) and spread that out over 3 meals if you can (hard to do because of decreased appetite). Enough protein greatly improves satiety. (Go ahead, try and overeat protein - I dare you!)…

Ha! Can we not talk about doctors!? Maybe this Summer I will be brave enough to actually find a doctor and have them go over me with a fine tooth comb. I am WAY overdue for my 100,000 mile check up and thankful I haven't blown a gasket or thrown a timing belt!

There are different formulas to figure your protein range - I use Phinney and Volek's recommendations. Rule of thumb - keep your carbs low, eat to your protein range in grams, then limit your fat to a minimum 80 grams. That typically starts accelerating the fat burning. Once you've reached maintenance then you increase…

Plus 1. Love my keto coffee, and don't need the hype.
