  • Know yourself. The slope is slippery for me. Addictive behavior and a really poor relationship with food don't go away because I hit a number on the scale. I can still be a binge eater, and nothing makes me binge like carbs. (Who binges on broccoli?!) The metabolic advantage of nutritional ketosis and low carb is so huge,…
  • My crazy idea: I take a weekly pill / vitamin container. Then with a food scale I weigh out 4 to 5 grams of my Bonairean sea salt in each one. 2 or 3 times a day I pour a bit in my hand, pop it in my mouth like a vitamin pill, and wash it down with a big glass of water. Works for me. Phinney's latest video on Low Carb Down…
  • If you have 80+ pounds to lose, your greatest need is not the quick weight loss, but a long term mentality and strategy. Nothing derails health and weight loss like impatience, demanding instant results, and the resulting discouragement that comes with it. I did not become morbidly obese overnight. How can I expect a…
  • Grrr... and it vibrated adding a sense of urgency.
  • Total. Neat, clean, unambiguous. Start at 20. If you 'tolerate' carbs OK, you will be able to make progress and still feel better as that count increases, but you will have a good baseline. There are many variables, all of which you'll read about in the various threads, but in my view they needlessly complicate what is in…
  • Low carb for life. Down over 100lbs in 15 months. Feel free to add if you're diary is open and you log. I prune my friends list of those who stop logging.
  • So... if it took 3 months, and stayed there, wouldn't that be worth it? The mental / emotional aspect of this journey is BY FAR the most important, and often the most difficult. For me, a goal is important, but more important is the strategy that gets me there, so that is where my focus must go rather than the scale…
  • Dr. Phinney is at 7+ years, IIRC from his videos.
  • I've found myself drifting towards this unknowingly. It started with being intentional about adequate protein to maintain muscle mass and help with body recomposition after losing 100 lbs. I want my body to burn its own fat as well, so I actually started watching my fat calories to make sure as not to short circuit my…
  • 60, 13 months, 100+ lbs down, all the benefits of ketosis that we know and love. I am a keto lifer by choice - I believe it saved my life. I'm a bit to my goal weight, 30 lbs or so, but will probably remain keto even afterwards both for the benefits and because I'm an addict of sorts and need the appetite and craving…
  • Google Jeff Volek and keto adapted athletes. Amazing research out there that is turning conventional (hi-carb) wisdom on its collective ear.
  • It is my understanding that a ketogenic way of eating can help fatty liver.
  • Initially I would count total. I've been keto for a year and always count total, most of the time staying between 20 and 30. I think it gives you a better baseline and helps you see how you react to different foods. If you have 100 lbs give or take to loose it won't matter, especially the first 3 or 4 months, the weight…
  • Keto lifer, pretty meticulous logger, 1 year in, down 100+ pounds. Feel free to add me!
  • Determine to eat clean. Why splurge? Chicken Caesar, no croutons, double the chicken, please. Bam! You're good!
  • Feel free to add. Keto lifer. One year in. 100lbs down. Mostly carnivore, not by intention, it just works out that way. Protein goal 100 to 180 grams. 20 to 30 grams carbohydrate total, not net, most days. Pretty good at logging most days, diary open.
  • HUGELY careful with enough salt / electrolytes. A lack thereof could mess up certain neuro chemical pathways
  • The frape syrup at Starbucks has sugar in it, even if none of the additions do. Found this out the hard way.
  • Willing to pay the price when you consider the alternative. Aloud minis and regular brushing mitigate things.
  • Psyllium never helped me. Seemed to make it worse. 200 mg mag citrate am & pm, lots of water took care of it. More if needed, but typically went too far the other way. Any change in diet results in bowel changes. Takes a bit of time for a new normal. Also 1,000 cals a day is pretty low. For anyone.
  • Massive text download guarantees 90% of us won't read. Link would be better. Especially when those who actually are carnivore seem to be so well and happy.
  • I pack emergency food, and eat what I can from what is served. Carb rich Mexico is where I've been mostly, so it CAN be done. Costco pepperoni, blocks of parmesan, and tuna in foil packets are my go to. It works, and you can do it!
  • Would never work for me. Being a binge eater I need the appetite control it provides. Oh, that and starting at over 350 pounds and almost 60 means I didn't have time to dink around. And besides, ketosis is so awesome, that being prone to obesity (being fat for 30 years IS being "prone" to obesity, right?!?) and being…
  • And 65 grams of protein is NOT too much! Unless you have a medical condition that is a contraindicator I would say it's too little. And plus one on the grams not %. Carbs low, protein enough to not loose lean body mass (Google protein per lbm - or read Phinney), and fill the rest in with fat.
  • For those of us with 100lbs or more to shed there is a TON of body recomposition that MUST happen. Impatience, or anything that makes me discouraged is an enemy that must be fought as much as a burglar in your home. Patience is your friend!
  • I got a ticket yesterday. Not good. I noticed that I am 20 lbs lighter than my drivers license weight. Very good. I've been lieing on my license for decades. Can't wait to march down to the DOL in a few months and get a new license just for weight.

  • Stop looking at scales, math, trends. You are not a stock index, you are a human being. You can control eating right, focus on that. Numbers are NOT in your control! Sunny_Bunny had an amazing post and your response was "Yeah but...". Your challenge is mental and emotional and wanting to control what you can't control,…
