I have a Timex, and here;s how I calibrated it: 1. Find a reliable calories burned calculation online (i misplaced my link, but there are several out there). Now, after your workout, plug in your age, weight, and average heart rate into the calculation, and check the difference between it and what your watch says (the…

Saturday morning, first thing before coffee, for both me and my wife. Since you need to have 3500 calorie deficit to lose a pound, and you can't do that in a day, why stress?

Get a heart monitor that calculates calories, and allows you to imput weight and age. Polar makes some good ones, my dad just bought the FT4 and loves it. There are also some calculators online that allow you to in age, weight, and average heart reate (if your tradmill gives you that).

Sent you a friend request. Welcome to the club.

It does get better. I went from nothing to hitting the gym 6 days a week in 8 months. So it takes time, but it is SO worth it. You have the right attitude, though. It's easy to justify sitting around, and you decided to do something about it. DOOO IIIIT!

I look at it this way...if I exercise, MFP rewards me for exercising by giving me more food. I once saw a poster that says "You are not a dog, so don't reward yourself with food." TO this I have but one answer.... WOOF!

Does that mean if I use mayo and bacon on a sandwich, they cancel each other out? ;) Seriously, we use Kraft Reduced with Olive Oil. We just don't use very much.

Doc says I'm not allowed to run. So I bought a machete.

Switch to maintainance calories and start gaining weight again, this time by going to the gym instead of to the buffet.
-
I use Muscle Milk, and it's pretty tasty. My father uses a pure protein powder...says it tastes like crap. I'll get the name of it for you and post it here.

Almonds are the way to go, or any kind of nut for that matter. Protien, good fat, low carb. We keep smoked and cocoa dusted ones in the house, so that we can choose salt or sweet (not very sweet, but enough) for those days when the food hasn't caught up with the exercise, but we're not hungry.

Thanx!

Good job everyone! I won't be running a challenge this month (I get distracted easy, and forget), but there is a monthly "Move Your *kitten* challenge going on if anyone wants to join.
-
Last day to log! A couple have already passed the 50 mile mark, congrats! I may be a couple miles short, since it's raining, but for all who tried, good work!
-
Sorry I haven't been posting, but I'm still in! nananie2 is kicking all our butts, but everyone is doing great! Just 6 more days to go!
-
Keep it up, ladies! And don't forget to update the spreadsheet!
-
I'd go with the elliptical. Easy on the knees, and a little upper body if you want.
-
Awesome starts! Let's keep them up, and remember to update the spreadsheet!

I do most of the time. Since MFP automatically deducts the calories I need to lose my goal, any exercise creates an additional deficit. For example, I want to lose 2 lbs a week. MFP deducts 1000 from my maintainance calories, creating a 7000 calorie deficit a week. That means that by just doing my normal thing, I burn 1000…

Costco also carries turkey burger patties, frozen. A little Montreal Steak seasoning and they are awesome!

Welcome!

Having joined in the middle of August, I didn't see this challenge, so I started my own for September. I didn't even think about making a minutes goal, either. But you guys are welcome to come over to ours, it's a straight 50 mile challenge.
-
The Challenge starts tomorrow, so don't forget to keep track of your miles as well as your calories!
-
I don't. I've got an Android phone, not sure if they are supported.

I did read elsewhere that it seemed to be more keyed towards men, so I'm not surprised by the heightened calorie burn. But that didn't bother me...for obvious reasons. I'm a big believer in starter units, though. Spend a little on a base model, use it until you decide you really like the type/activity/usefulness, then…

I'm expecting the Timex T5G971 Unisex Sports Personal Heart Rate Monitor Watch in the mail today. The total weight (I'm guessing watch and transmitter), which isn't bad at all. If it comes in, I'll use it tonight and let you know. But it fits all your criteria except for the distance/speed tracking, but it's only about $40.

Welcome to all who are taking th challenge! Anyone else?

Do guys do this? I just got the DVD for my wife, and I'd like to do it with her, but all the pictures and stuff I've seen on this are of girls. Not that I care, I just want to know if this is keyed specifically for women or not. And I can't just watch it for Jillian, she really doesn't do anything for me.
