  • I cook brown rice/quiona/couscous (whatever I have in) in some veggie stock, then add some cooked mushrooms, garlic, parsley and a little crumbled feta. Spoon the mix into the peppers and roast in the oven for 20 mins or so. If I can spare the extra calories then I'll add roasted hazelnuts or pine nuts and some sundried…
  • Congrats on your first half! As others have said it's an individual thing depending on your fitness, how hard you ran and how well you are eating. Conventional advice suggests you need one day recovery for each mile raced, so 13 days for a half. That doesn't mean you can't run for 13 days, just that you probably need to…
  • Well done mate! I ran the GNR yesterday too. Was a great day despite the weather!
  • I've been vegetarian for about 15 years and I'm a regular runner. Feel free to add me and ask anything :-)
  • 15th September - Great North Run - half marathon 6th October - Great Scottish Run - half marathon 3rd November - Southside Six - 16 mile race Good luck to everyone for their upcoming races
  • Yep beans and lentils. Chickpeas are high in protein. Are you vegan or just vegetarian? I also eat a lot of eggs, low fat greek yogurt and cottage cheese to keep my protein up. I only use protein shakes on heavy work out days or if I'm in a rush and can't cook properly. Feel free to add me to have a nosey at my diary.
  • I always eat my oats cold in the summer. I mix them with a splash of water or a freshly squeezed orange and a load of low fat greek yogurt, top with frozen fruit and leave to soak overnight in the fridge. In the morning I'll add some pumpkin seeds or toasted almonds. It takes 2 minutes to prepare the night before and keeps…
  • I'm doing a couple of halves this year. Feel free to add me.
  • I'm training for two halves and a 16 mile race this year. Did my first half last year and loved it. Always happy to have new running friends.
  • The gym I go to is completely open plan and the room where the classes are held has a glass wall, so everyone can creep from every angle. Win win!
  • I lift 3/4 days a week while training for a half marathon. I actually started lifting when I injured my calf and couldn't run but now I'm back running I easily manage both as long as I eat enough. On days I'm squatting I'll just do an easy 5k afterwards or 20 mins on a stationary bike or rowing machine. Typically I run 4…
  • If I want something sweet I mix it with cinnamon, vanilla essence and eat it with slices of apple.
  • You might be tensing more than you realise. A good tip I know is to imagine you are holding a crisp between your fingers and your thumbs, don't squish that crisp!
  • http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/general/rws-race-time-predictor/1681.html According to this if you can run a 6 minute mile then you are more than capable of a sub 25 minute 5k. Obviously you need to do some training at a longer distance but you'll probably be fine as long as you don't run too fast at the start. When is your…
  • I just recently downloaded it and really like it so far. Only problem is I don't have a medicine ball so can only do some of the work outs. I find the 15 minute "Get focused" sessions are great to add in with my running.
  • I applied and didn't get a place, I'm absolutely gutted. Waiting to hear if I've got a charity place but I'm not holding my breath.
  • What Chubby said, they are an absolute scam. Do it yourself at home by throwing some money out the window then running a tub of hot water and chucking some rusty nails in it.
  • I have to agree with Minnie that it's unlikely you're burning 170 calories for one mile at 5mph. Obviously a HRM is the most accurate way to track calories burned but I always work on the assumption that the average woman burns around 100 calories per mile. This number will be slightly higher depending on your weight or if…
  • Was on day 8 on level 1 and skipped on to level 2 today out of curiosity. I enjoyed parts of it but there are too many plank style moves, it really killed my shoulders. Going to mix between level 1 and 2 for the next week or so and see how my shoulders feel then.
  • Sarssarssarsb I'm still only on level 1 but don't find the ab part is enough for me either as I've done a lot of pilates over the summer. I just add in a few minutes of planks and side planks at the end to make up for it. Just finished day 7 of Level 1. Finding most of it ok now but I still can't do more than 2 proper push…
  • Well done everyone so far! Just finished day 6 of level 1. Felt pretty good after it so think I need to up my weights as I'm only using 3 pound ones just now, will see how my shoulders feel tomorrow.
  • I think getting him involved with cooking a few nights a week, planning lunches etc can make a big difference for many people. He'll be learning a new skill which is always good for confidence and he can be proud of whatever he makes and hopefully enjoy it more than if he thought he was being forced into a "diet". Hope you…
  • My proper weights set is still in storage at my parents house so I've been using glass bottles filled with water which are about 3 pounds. I really struggle with the front raises but could do with using heavier weights for the bicep curls and chest flies in particular.
  • They are in the delicious fat category!
  • Hi I'm Frances. I'm 26 and hoping to tone up a bit before my wedding at the end of December. I've done level one 5 times in the past three weeks so want to up my commitment though I know I won't do it everyday as I don't want to get injured. Trying to mix in some running, Zumba and maybe a spin class so I don't get bored.…

  • When I'm sick of eggs my fav low cal breakfast is a toasted crumpet with berries and yogurt.
  • Force yourself to do hill sprints once a week, even if you only do a couple it will make a massive difference to your training. When you're in a race and you're overtaking everyone on the hills you'll feel like a champ. Cross train to prevent injury, squats and planks are great for building strength. It doesn't matter how…
  • Don't know where you live but in the UK major supermarkets stock lactose free milk and cheese.
  • This might sound silly but try and relax your breathing when you're going at a comfortable pace. I have asthma and sometimes when I'm out on a long run my breathing gets a bit heavy but if I just slow down a tiny bit and relax my breathing I can keep going for ages. As others have said, mix in some sprints and hill runs…
