The wedding is in 10 days, and I can put the dress on and zip it up, although it is a bit snug and my back rolls show. But at least I can wear it, and don't have to run out and buy something just because I got to big for the beautiful gown I already own. I am also sque-e-e-ezing into some others of my spring/summer clothes…

I really love using a HRM bra. They are pricey, but you just click the monitor onto the bra, without the strap. It is way more comfortable.

So many great answers. Thank you all for taking the time to respond.

mjanaib, I feel your pain. I was never able to maintain a healthy weight. I automatically gain all the time unless I am really fighting to lose. For some of us, our genetics predisposes us to store calories more efficiently than others. This means that "eating normally" (if that means eating how others of normal weight…

I think it sounds great. Do you keep a count of how many you do each time? That way, you can see your progress in another way than just how many minutes you made it through.

HI sfhappy, some days, that works for me. For me, I think the big issue is Mindfulness. If I am actually paying attention while I eat, I notice when I have had enough, and many times, I am able to put the remainder away. Part of it is being raised in a house where we could not leave the table until we had finished every…

I did that one for a few months. Every day for lunch I was to eat a can of tuna. Dry. That didn't work for long. Obviously non-sustainable for the long haul.

I have been overweight since I was a wee little girl. I started dieting at age 18, and have been on a roller coaster ever since. I used to lose weight every spring/summer, only to gain it back in the fall/winter months. For me, it is a daily battle with few reprieves.

Because you didn't. The camera is a cruel foe who distorts our appearance. You probably looked much nicer than the camera said you did (weight gain notwithstanding).

Some days, I just breeze through; eating mindfully, walking right past the trays of free food at work. Other days, my mind is on food constantly, and it is very difficult to refrain.

Absolutely! On both counts. I find that I can live in 'reduction' mode for only so long before I begin longing for all those foods I've been living without. If I allow myself a little latitutde to eat whatever I 'feel' like eating, then I am able to resume my healthy program with a good will, and see progress again.
-
Me too! Especially during *that time of the month* I crave certain foods. If I simply allow myself to eat what I'm craving, I'm satisfied and can get back on my program. If I tell myself I'm *not allowed* to have those things, I'll eat six times as much of things that *are* allowed because nothing else satisfies that…

I do it in stages. The body needs time to adjust and the skin needs time to retract. The slower you lose the weight, the less likelihood you will end up with hanging skin.
-
Well, what are you hungry for?
-
Maybe you don't need to eat 6X/day. This approach does not work for everybody; maybe it does not work for you. Also, as women approach menopause it becomes more difficult to lose weight. Not for everyone - but for most of us!

It's like a Mambo: two steps forward, one step back one step forward, two steps back but over a period of time it trends downward.

Following my daughter's March 10 wedding I plan to revise my tracker so that it reflects my original Starting Weight of 250 lbs, rather than my weight on the day I joined MFP with her to get ready for this wedding.

3/01: 174 lbs 3/05: 3/12: 3/19: 3/26: 3/31: Weigh-ins on Monday Calorie intake: 1200 Exercise: any time I can squeeze it in between work, classes and internship! Hopefully: Saturday dance class, Sunday lifting, Wed & Thurs HIIT with group home residents

No bonus calories, but lots of other bonuses. If you buy your produce locally, it will almost surely be much fresher and higher in nutrients than what you can find in the grocery store. If you buy your meat directly from the farmer, you know that the cows and pigs and chickens were actually raised outside, eating their…

Give yourself a break from calorie counting - it's upsetting you. Instead, just track EVERY BITE you eat (or drink) for the next two weeks. Eat when you're hungry and stop eating when you are no longer hungry, ie, before you are 'full'. At the end of that period, review your diary and see where you need to make…

The breakfast you describe is very high in the type of carbohydrates that quickly convert to sugar (juice, flour). Try substituting more protein and/or slower carbs, like spinach or other veggies for the bread and juice. Protein and vegetables are more sustaining and less likely to leave you with an energy slump afterward.

I think we hear so much about the mathematics of weight loss that we forget that our bodies are not calculators. Subtracting X for Y days does not necessarily equal Z weight loss. We need to be patient and focus on healthy living in the long term, and the numbers will do their dance, trending downward over time.

Yup, that's always been a struggle for me. It really limits the types of bras I can wear. I cannot wear any bras with a band on the bottom which mean I cannot find any exercise bras!!
-
OK, I'll take that bet! I weighed in this morning at 174, so I will need to weigh 168 by March 31. That would be SO COOL!

I tried it with the girls at the group home where I'm interning. I didn't like it at all. If there is a DVD available, it would probably be more pleasant. One thing I did notice, however, while the animators worked hard to make the instructors' bodies move naturally and their hair and clothing move around, the women's…

If you are eating every hour and a half and are still hungry, you are not eating enough at meals. Try eating meals that are high in protein and veggies and they should carry you for 2-3 hours.
