  • Not so long as you use the sugar-free ones.
  • I like to use sugar-free coffee syrups in my protein shakes. I think my favorite right now is the "almond joy" shake -- chocolate protein powder, almond milk, chia seeds, and a tbsp each of chocolate, coconut, and almond syrup.
  • ^^^This -- the magnesium actually acts to pull the lactic acid out of your muscles, so less pain. Also -- be sure to get at least a little cardio to get the circulation going in the muscles. They'll be less sore as they warm up.
  • The cause of your knee pain could be one of a multitude of reasons (or some combination). It could be a need to strengthen the muscles that support the knees. I highly recommend the Gaiam Strong Knees video (TeaBea posted a link to it up a few posts). It's great because it will explain what muscles you are working on for…
  • What is it that makes you hate it and give up? Is it too hard? Do you get too hot and/or sweaty? Do you get bored? If you get bored, try to find something you enjoy doing. Ideally this would mean swimming, or biking, or playing some sort of game/sport. However, even if it means using treadmill time to watch a tv show, that…
  • According to the BMI, 10 out of 11 of the guys from Ocean's 11 are either overweight or obese -- Brad Pitt is overweight and George Clooney is obese. That should tell you about how useful the BMI is for people who are actually fit (read: have any amount of muscle at all).
  • I do this, too! The chocolate kind is especially good for this purpose.
  • I mix it in with Greek yogurt -- love it.
  • Yeah, me, too. And they suck. But, IME, this has more often been the skinny "fit"-looking instructors. The instructors I have had that are overweight or less "fit" LOOKING have far more often participated in the class, demonstrating the proper form and movement, and kicked everyone else's *kitten* in class.
  • Yes, we, as a human species, do tend to prejudge. But what prejudgments are made is based entirely on your/our own biases, not some "inante" dislike/preference for a particular type of person. A racist person prejudges someone based on the color of their skin -- but not every person in the world is going to prejudge the…
  • Not getting a good workout by a trainer/instructor is ridiculous. But that has nothing to do with the size or shape of the instructor/trainer. Some of the most intense, powerful workouts I've ever had were taught by "overweight" people. One was a TRX class, and one was a Barre 3 class. Holy mother, those workouts kicked my…
  • I never noticed any significant change from doing a new workout routine, but I did notice an overall change after I went from completely sedentary to working out in general. Before I started doing any exercise (and was about 130 lbs. heavier than I am now), my resting heartrate was around 60-65. Now that I exercise…
  • Love this!!
  • 1) Do you not pay for gas? 2) Lucky you -- that's about what my water bill is, and that's without having any washer (clothes or dish), just from doing dishes, taking a daily shower (limited to 7 mins max) 3) $300 for electricity?!?! Damn!! I've never paid more than $80/mo. **Personally** I think it's a bit crazy to spend…
  • Wow!! Do you not have to pay for your own water and electricity? I can't even imagine using the washer and dryer everyday. I'm starting to have a panic attack thinking of how much water and electricity is being used for that, not to mention how much that would cost.
  • It sounds like you might be running too much on your toes/front of your foot -- that can cause bad calf pain. Have you ever been fitted for shoes by people who can evaluate your running stance/stride/etc?
  • I have the Bodymedia Fit (not the CORE), and it's been really helpful -- especially in realizing just how much I sit around at work. When I saw that it had registered that I had been asleep for part of the day, I knew I had to make more of an effort to get off my *kitten* during the day. As for excercise cals, there are…
  • Huh, I have Body Media Fit and according to that, the most I've ever burned in a 1 hour TRX class is 296 calories. I'm 5'7 156 lbs. and generally work out regularly (6-7 days a week). The class I was taking was pretty intense, combo of cardio and strength training, and I would usually leave a circle of sweat on the ground…
  • I've been doing at TRX class for the last couple of months and use the Body Media Fit, and depending on the instructor, an hour class generally burns between 200-300 calories. The big difference was whether the class had more of a cardio focus or more of a strength-building focus, the former burning way more calories. As I…
  • Refusing to pick up your son from daycare because he is "bothered" is seriously messed up. He may or may not have had a legitimate gripe. You may or may not have been wrong to go out with this friend. His feelings should be important to you -- but apparently his feelings are more important to him than the safety of you…
  • YES!!
  • Also, you need to dump that idiot of a counselor. Sounds more like he's pushing his own agenda than actually trying to help you and your husband have a healthy relationship
  • I think the problem is your husband. Seriously, he's bugged by you being on a co-ed softball team?! That screams jealousy problems, and jealousy is not part of a healthy relationship. It sounds to me like he wants to control you, and I think you should see that as a blazing red flag. And, not that this should matter, but…
  • Check to see if there's a Planet Fitness near you. They have the whole circuit training part in addition to the treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, nautilus-type machines and free weights. And, even better -- they're only $10/mo., $10 to sign up, and no contract. (if you want access to any PF in the country plus free tanning,…

  • I have the Body Media, and I love it. I chose it over the BodyBugg because I wanted the sleep efficiency feature. I've heard mixed reviews about the fitbit. But, I like that the BodyMedia uses movement AND body heat and sweat rather than just movement. So, that's why I chose the one I did. But, the fitbit doesn't have a…
  • I don't know -- there seem to be quite a variety of moves offered in the classes I've been doing -- enough so that each class is pretty different from the previous one. There will definitely be some of the same moves each class, but mostly there's a lot of different ones.
  • I just started taking one of these classes -- it's an hour, and according to my Body Media Fit, I burn about 285 cals in that hour.
  • I don't have a Fitbit, but I do have a BodyMedia Fit, which is similar. There are definitely pros and cons to each, but I like having the ability to track all of my calories burned all day, rather than just the times my heartrate is increased. The graphs available that show exactly how many calories I'm burning per minute…
  • You may want to try a light box -- one that is made specifically for SAD, and not one that is made for "waking up" or one that is less than 10,000 LUX. And/Or try some Vitamin D pills and/or Vitamin B complex and/or fish oil. All of these things are known to help some people with SAD and SAD symptoms. And, if it can help…
