  • Not to mention that gluten free replacements are usually higher in calories than what they replace.
  • If diabetes runs in your family, it is a very good idea to eat breakfast to reduce the amount of work your pancreas and liver have to do to keep your blood sugar steady - this can potentially delay the onset of diabetes (and if you are diabetic, you obviously do need to eat breakfast to avoid blood sugar getting too low)
  • Definitely something like this - I will never be super skinny, and she looks good with what many would consider "a few extra pounds" (i.e. not at the bottom of or below the ideal weight range)
  • I would also be interested in joining. I had my own challenges this past month, and did really well with them, but haven't lost any weight (Girl Scout cookies are evil! Delicious, but evil!) Got a few new friends this month as well, but have been less than pleased with the support (or lack thereof) I have been getting.
  • I saw it and enjoyed it. Although I thought that trying to lose 25% percent of their body weight in 16 weeks was a bit extreme. But I was really impressed with the amount both of them lost.
  • You shouldn't feel bad for the money you spend on a gym membership and a trainer. How you spend money is your business. What is valuable to one person is a "waste" to another - it is all about priorities. I also pay for a personal trainer. I have trouble getting to the gym otherwise. Yes it is expesive, but it is worth it…
  • Thanks for all the great ideas. Haven't tried protein powder yet (I have a mental block against it - it doesn't seem like "real food" - but that rationalization doesn't stop me from eating processed crap).
  • It only takes me a second to get fat - right when I step in front of a mirror or when someone is taking my picture. The rest of the time I am thin and fit as can be ;-)
  • Great job. And it is wonderful to see a woman whose goal weight isn't 125. I'm 5'9", starting at 230 lbs, and would love to get into the 170s. Actually at this point getting below 200 would be a major feat - haven't been that "light" in over a decade.
  • Also - I am sick of wondering who that fat lady is in all the pictures of me.
  • My health. I have Metabolic Syndrome - high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes - as well as acid reflux, and a few other things. The latest thing is fibromyalgia, which makes working out more of a challenge. The Metabolic Syndrome is worsened by weight, and also makes it harder to lose weight. I'm only 41, but I…
  • People who use momentum and leaning backward as a way to do a lat pull down rather than using their muscles.
  • Noooo! that is horrible that people on MFP would do that. It is not about completely cutting things out, it is about being smarter. We can have bad stuff sometimes (and mayo and BBQ sauce are not bad in and of themselves - just if it is a lot of it all the time) This is years ago, but I knew I had gotten big when my…
  • Goals for Jan 5 1. Go to the gym (no personal training appointment, so hard for me to get there) 2. Go for a walk at work 3. Make my lunch and resist the pizza the others will be having at the meeting (I usually have no willpower) 4. Drink 56 oz of water (never easy to get my water) 5. Call Kevin Urie and write Depletions…
  • Goals for Jan 4 - 1. drink 48 oz of water - will be a challenge without going to the gym 2. clean my desk for 10 minutes 3. go for a walk 4. make my lunch 5. call Kevin Urie and write Depletions PA (doesn't mean anything to anyone else, but is a related to a big work project I have been putting off)
  • Goals for Jan 2 1. Take a walk with one of the dogs (much easier with just one, not all three) - NOPE - it was dark when I got home from #3 2. Drink one 24 oz bottle of water (not nearly enough, but I am starting from ground zero here) - DONE 3. Get together with my friend Yvonne - DONE 4. Shred some more paper (shredded…
  • Obviously Boston and I think alike. Far off
  • This fits well with my personal goal for January - to log into MyFitnessPal every day in January (except Jan 1, because the new year really doesn't start until Jan 2 because on the 1st you are still recovering from New Year's Eve). I am 42 and married, and work at a job I love, even though it can be very stressful (often…
  • Hang in there! Good for you for logging in and tracking your food, even if it isn't the best. Every day is a new one, you can get back on track any time. And don't we just love our spouses who sabotage our eating plans (mine talked me into an appetizer when we were out the other day - potato skins with cheese & bacon - the…
