  • Try and find a quiet place to sit. Close your eyes. Breathe. Feel your breathing. Focus on your breathing. Now focus on the various parts of your body and acknowledge how they feel. If you start thinking about food, gently bring yourself back to your breathing. No, this is not meditation...at least I don't consider it…
  • @veddar79 reminds me of a younger Lou Ferrigno.
  • Absolutely agree!!!
  • If you don't want to go to the gym, don't. Give yourself a break. Just walk around your neighborhood, parks, etc. I don't go to gyms because I'm too embarrased. But that doesn't mean I can't take the stairs to the ground floor bathroom during work, or park at the far place in the parking lot. I can skip the pizza at lunch…
  • Almost the same happened to me a few years back. But for me, they forgot the egg in the egg mcmuffin. How do you do that???? I was close so I turned around and went back. *sigh* And Egg McMuffin with no egg...could have just have easily left off the muffin and just given me sausage wrapped in cheese.
  • I don't know of a web site, but I recall seeing smart phone apps like this. I can't remember off hand, but if you have one, you may want to start there.
  • Wow, nice work pal! Seriously. If I looked like that I can only imagine what my wife would do. *blush*
  • Flaw or not, you deserve kudos for this!
  • I use to back in early college...it really helped me empty my head of the junk and get me clear for the day ahead. I thought I was fooling myself and stopped, but recently came across this article: http://lifehacker.com/5971173/three-quick-and-easy-ways-to-quiet-your-mind which led to others. If I can find the time/place,…
  • I'm usually open for people to add me if they'd like. I've been silent for a while though. I've found I was doing much of these things (posts, blogs, entries, etc) in order to get people's responses...I like having people care (long story). But in the end, we have to do these things for ourselves. Hearing the "Nice Job",…
  • Stop torturing yourself. There is nothing wrong with having desserts and sweets as long as you remember it's a trade off. Perhaps cut back your breakfast and lunch by 50 cal each. This will leave an additional 100 for a dessert. Or, do that and agree to walk a mile or exercise a little more the next day to burn another…
  • Adorable 4yr old saying, "After I go to sleep I want to go to school. Can you pick me up?"
  • There is no easy solution here. Subway is like anywhere else. I use to eat there almost everyday and even made an Excel spreadsheet with the *ingredients'* nutritional information. I would then "make my own sandwich" to see the fat, cal, sodium, etc. Once I was happy, I knew EXACTLY what to order and how. And FWIW, I…
  • "Burn more than you take in"...no duh. Losing weight is (simplistically) just basic math. If you take in 1000 calories and burn off 1000 calories, you won't gain or lose. So this is why people say that magic phrase. What they don't bother saying is attitude, persaverance, determination, support, food types, etc, etc, *all*…
  • Do you have a couch? All innuendos aside, you could lay on your back and use the weights in all sorts of ways...repetitive lifts, "bicyclying", situps, etc, etc. The cushions of the couch will eliminate any thumping.
  • Side comment: This is a great picture...so accurate so many times...
  • I don't know about leaving him, but I do agree this is not OKAY. What he is doing is between you, him, and perhaps a therapist. But don't lose weight to prove anything to anyone...this has to be for YOU and you alone! I've made the mistake of trying to lose weight "for them, for her, for that, for this..." The reality is…
  • Bazinga!
  • I usually scream, "Shut Up and Go to Bed! If I hear one more peep out of either of you I'm coming in there to {insert creative action here}". Then I realize it was outside and think, "Oh crap."
  • Yes, I am in the same boat. I was going to use the gym at work but the thought of bouncing and jiggling next to co-workers was *not* appealing. For now I just take walks....short 15-20 minute ones. At work, I can't afford to sweat too much. *blush*
  • If possible, I'd also consider going directly to the package for the rice if you still have it. You may want to take a few moments and enter it yourself just to make sure you have the right numbers. If you're using a phone/tablet, you should even be able to scan the bar code.
  • Wow...when did "nerd" mean movie/cartoon characters and games? When I was a kid (Oh man, I don't believe I just said that...) A "Nerd" was the braniac in the class...not the fandoms, they were typically Geeks or something else. I'm not trying to offend anyone...just thinking times have changed. Oh well...back to my math,…
  • Hi @KLovesTy, obviously I'm not a Mom, but my youngest is 3 so I do remember those times with my wife. First, let me say what I'm confident your husband is thinking: You are beautiful!!! Being away from a wife and children is one of the most difficult things any man can do and all we want is to get back to those we love. I…
  • I'm sorry to hear so many of you have had rough days. I must admit my week has been difficult and I've not been in the best mood. But seeing other people at the same place makes me feel bad and kind of silly as I enjoy helping people. On that note, I truly hope you all have better tomorrows. FWIW, looking at your profile…
  • @half_moon, it seems to me you've learned the most important thing about weight loss...figure it out for you, yourself. In other words, yes, everyone is diffferent and because of that "results may vary". I'm glad you're not listening to anyone right now. It shows an independent mind in a person willing to lead and find her…
  • As are girls, school, foose-ball, etc, etc, etc. Anyone else thirsty? --PD
  • WHAT!?!?!?! If I did that I wouldn't get every last little bit of whatever I measured...I'd be left hungry. No, no...I use a bowl...a nice round bottom bowl. Preferably one big enough for me to get my head in and clean like my dog would! --PD
  • "Don't swim for at least an hour after eating." :) I honestly don't know if you *should* eat before, but after working out I can't eat a thing...so I don't really have a choice. It's either before (at least an hour ) or not for a few hours after. --PD
  • I was going to write "Cheer-y-o!" but being a dad it sounded too much like the delicious breakfast cereal full of vitamins and minerals, so I'll stick with "Hi!" Brave move from NYC to London, good for you. Send me an invite if you'd like. Good Luck!
  • I'm not a nutritionist or a personal trainer. I'm just a Dad. But I can tell you this...the scale is *not* the whole story. Muscle weighs more than fat. It is entirely possible by working out so much your muscle gain is outgrowing your fat loss. How do you feel? Do you feel more energy? Stronger? Try and "focus" on your…
