There are at least 2 different sizes of chest strap, but they are both adjustable. The one I have is M-XXL, the other is the smaller so you both might be able to use the same strap; if not you can get a spare different sized one from the shops or ebay.

Have you washed the strap in your washing machine? (don't use fabric softener); if you continue to experience problems and your polar FT4 is still under warranty contact Polar. I had similar problems and they asked me to send it to them. It came back a few days later with a brand new strap.
