  • Thank you for this post! I only started running in March, so I appreciate all the encouraging words. I am planning to sign up for my first 10K today. The race is this coming Saturday. I'm terrified. I finished the bridge to 10K program last week only getting as far as 5.93 miles on my longest run. I did the entire program…
  • Week 1: 5397 Week 2: 5254 Week 3: 3055 Week 4: 5824 May Total: 19,530 exceeded my goal of 16,000. Thanks for putting together this fun challenge!
  • Week 1: 5397 Week 2: 5254 Week 3: 3055 I was under my goal of 4,000 for this week, but that was because of pre and post race rest days. Still on track to meet my monthly goal. Lost 1 pound this week for a total of 4 lbs this month  Looking forward to exceeding week 4 goal!
  • Great week! Week 1: 5397 Week 2: 5254 Exceeding my 4,000 burn per week... and have dropped 3 lbs
  • Same issue with my Polar FT4 - I contacted them and they suggested I send my device in. I can't do my workouts without it, so I've been using it even though it's fautly. Not that this comment helps your situation, just know it's not only your device that does this.
  • Wow awesome! Thank you smart MFP'ers!
  • Yep, I dig - thx!
  • Wow everyone! Thanks so much for your feedback. I see I'll have to do some research on apps you've all mentioned and hopefully try them out before my next race.
  • Thanks for the info!
  • Woohoo, great job everyone! I burned 983 calories doing free weights and taking a 60 minute kickboxing class based on the output from my HRM (Polar FT4 - which I'm obsessed with!).

  • Hey all, I'm Jill. I'm 34 years old. Looking forward to gettin' my burn on with you ladies! I'm 7 pounds away from my goal weight. I am part of a Biggest Loser challenge at my gym - my hope is that this group will keep me pushing forward. I just ran my first 5K - met my goal of under 30 minutes. Today I started the bridge…
  • 16,000 burned on HRM @ gym - I'm in! It'll be a fun goal to work towards.
  • I seriously have still not recovered from that movie. "Horror" flicks never had any effect on me... but that one. I don't even like seeing the name. I had to put a piece of masking tape over the clock on VCR (yes, VCR) I had in my room and at night I would turn the alarm clock away from me so I not able to see the time.…
  • This is the best thing that's happened to me today!

  • I use the Polar FT4 heart rate monitor - it's great. Got if for about $70
  • reposting because I misquoted the quote in my orginal post and the "edit" button is gone! Anyway... take 2: I rescued Simon (profile pic) when he was 10 weeks old in 1998. Had to put him down in June - pancreatitis, bone marrow cancer, hepatitis, and anemia. Hardest decision of my life. I miss him - Every. Single. Day. At…
  • Did my 1st run outside... had to walk on 3 different occasions during my session. Verdict: I love my treadmill!!! It killed being outside... I guess something to work towards.... in the spring! : ) I found I was clenching my teeth, came home with a headache. Anyone else experience that?
  • Thank you everyone! I will let you know how it goes... on Sunday... when I run outside for the 1st time. Sticking to the treadmill for tomorrow AM. I think I'll keep up with C25K every other day as planned... only a few more weeks to go... and make sure at least 1 day/week is outside. Yay, excited!
  • I have a treadmill at home... so I don't have to travel very far. I've avoided running outdoors because, frankly, for some reason - I just feel embarrassed. It's weird. There are tons and tons of trails in my town - I have to just do it. Since I'm a beginner and still working through my C25K program, would it be ok to run…
  • Oh nice! It actually speaks to you while you're doing the workout? That's awesome! I will download right now.... can't wait to run outside and try it out.
  • Thanks! I was thinking maybe I'd just download the C25K app and do sprint intervals with the week 1 workouts. Then add some speed to some of the shorter runs. Last night I did W6D2 and ran at 6.5 - 7.0 mph for the last 7 mins of both run intervals - felt awesome and totally doable! I will check out the RunKeeper app as…
  • I've called and/or emailed restaurants before to ask... sometimes they'll provide info, usually they just ignore me. Worth a shot though. Otherwise, like everyone else is saying - try to figure it out with comparable foods in the database... or eat a home.
  • I agree... C25K is awesome! I just completed my week 5 day 2 workout... I would recommend not only good running shoes, but Dr. Scholls active series insoles, a really good stretch after each work out, and R.I.C.E (rest, ice, compress, elevate) your knees after each run as well. Take your time - speed will come after you've…
  • I have felt the same way - but once you go, it becomes YOUR class and it's not at all scary anymore. Plus doing something that make you uncomfortable will only make you stronger. Go for it!
  • If Ian is in the final two, he'll beat out both Dan and Danielle. Dan's only chance at winning if he's in final two is to take Danielle, because honestly, what moves did she actually make on her own. The only thing she has going for her is that Dan has already won before. And I've got to say - I was totally with Brittany…
  • I found this recipe on MFP - and used it. SO GOOD!!!! I used green peppers and no salt tomato sauce. I can't wait to make these again!! Stuffed Peppers • 1 lb lean chopped turkey meat • 1 garlic, minced • 1/4 onion, minced • 1 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro or parsley • 1 tsp garlic powder • 1 tsp cumin powder • salt to taste…
  • So I have another HRM question. I ordered the Polar FT4 and it should arrive any day now ... just wondering for ski season... If I wear the chest strap the whole day, will it calculate the total cals burned througout the whole day or would I need to turn off/pause when I'm in for lunch? Never had a HRM or worn a chest…
