  • I'm just finishing my second day of the 17-day diet. I agree that it is NOT your typical diet, but more of a lifestyle change. A year or so ago, I lost 21 pounds using mfp. Now I want to continue losing, so I'm starting over, and supplementing mfp with the 17 day diet plan. I don't see any reason why the two plans can't…
  • Thanks for all the comments everybody! I hadn't thought about the fact that some people are reluctant to bring up the topic of weight loss because they're worried about offending me. And also, I have been wearing a lot of the same baggy shirts because I can't afford to buy a whole new wardrobe. So those could both be…
  • Do a search for "women 40+ would like to share progress"... It's a very supportive group and we welcome women of all ages who are 40 and over. Jen
  • I've completed w3d2, but I haven't run since Wednesday. So I'm not sure if I should just start week 3 all over again tomorrow, or if I should do w3d3 tomorrow and start week 4 on Wednesday. What do you all do if you miss workout days?
  • Julie Sue, I wonder if we're burning more calories than we think we are because we're alternating walking and running. I've read that alternating helps you to burn more calories. I'm on week 3 and I've been consistently losing about a pound a week even though a lot of times I eat more than my calories for the day, so I…
  • I just finished w3d2, but I had to walk the last half of my second 3-minute run. I am really disappointed that I wasn't able to do the whole thing. I have been sick with a stomach virus, so I think that's why I felt so weak. Hopefully when I do day 3 on Friday I'll be feeling better.
  • Hi! I'm on week 3, but I repeated the second week. I've found that it helps to walk longer than the program tells you to. I do a ten minute warm up walk instead of five, and I add minutes to the walking between each run if I'm feeling tired. My goal is to run a 5K on October 10. That gives me a little more than ten weeks…
  • These are great... thanks for starting this thread! My tip is drink lots of ice cold water. We all need to keep hydrated, especially in the summer. And colder water boosts your metabolism. Jen
  • I just finished week 2! I'm curious what songs you run to. I need some new tunes that will inspire me to run. Any suggestions? Jen
  • My daughter had shin splints last year and we bought her some Dr. Scholl's Custom Orthotic Inserts for her shoes. She used the machine that analyzed her feet and the way she stepped, and they really helped a lot. Google Dr. Scholl's for more info.
  • I tried to download the podcasts, but my internet is insanely slow. And I'm sick of the songs on my ipod, so I ran with no noise in my ears today. Wow, that was a totally different experience. My route takes me through the park, so I actually heard birds singing! It was very relaxing to have silence while I ran. And I…
  • I just finished W2D1. I'm repeating this entire week because I missed two of the work-outs last week. This was actually the fifth time I've done this series of run/ walks (three times during week one, once last week and today). Today was by far the easiest time I've had so far. I really enjoyed the jogging parts of the…
  • Hi everyone! I haven't posted on this board for a while because I was trying to not think about how much drinking I did over the past week. I feel like a little kid... if I pretend it didn't happen then it really didn't happen. :blushing: But the fact is I did drink a LOT. I had some family issues, which led to long chats…
  • I'm repeating week two because I only got one run in last week. So w2d1 (again!) will be tomorrow. I wish I was moving ahead to week three, but I just wasn't able to keep up with it last week due to life interfering with my plans. Jen
  • I just finished week one day 2. I survived the second workout and it was easier than last time! The weather is a lot less humid, so that helps. Day three will be on Sunday. Jen
  • Hi everybody, I'm new here. I just finished W1D1... my first jog since high school! It's good to read everybody's progress because it helps to keep me motivated. My next workout is on thursday. Jen
  • I don't have any idea how to solve your technical problem, but I wanted to let you know that I'm starting C25K too. Tomorrow will be my first workout, so if you want a workout buddy let me know. Jen
  • I love this quote... thanks for posting it!
  • I finally found you guys on the new thread. It took a while due to my drunken haze. (Thanks for the email, Dave!) I'm going to be completely honest here because I don't know any of you in real life. I drank every single night this past week. Not only that, but I drank a lot more than I usually do. I think I've got some…
  • Hi guys! I haven't been online lately so I'm behind on the posts. Somebody else may have already posted a link to this study, but I thought it was relevant for our group. Apparently this study shows that if you're trying to lose weight it doesn't matter what type of calories you consume. What matters is HOW MANY calories…
  • Woa Dave.... that's deep. (I feel like I'm in a 1960's coffee shop) So, I cooked beer brats tonight. Really, what are the chances that I wouldn't drink while my brats were simmering? Yes, I indulged in a cold one while the sausages were on the grill. But I only ate about a quarter of a brat, so I saved a lot of calories.…
  • Ok guys, I already blew it. My goal was no drinking until Friday. I had a rough day at work and what did I do when I got home? Immediately popped open a beer out of habit. And to top it off, my hubby left me a voicemail that he wants to "talk" about how much I've been drinking lately. Gee, that'll be a fun conversation. I…
  • After going over my calories AGAIN today, I decided that I do need to cut way back on my drinking. My goal will be to abstain from drinking alcohol from Monday through Thursday this week. Wish me luck! Jen
  • It is interesting how many of us tend to over-indulge here in Wisconsin. But we have bars on just about every street corner and I live half a block from a brewery, so what can you expect? Are a lot of you only drinking on weekends? I'm up for trying that, but it will be really difficult. Jen
  • Oh my goodness, this is the PERFECT group for me!!! I'm so glad to meet my fellow lushes. I'm sure I'll be posting much more in the future. :drinker: By the way... I'm another midwesterner, I'm from Milwaukee Wisconsin. I found the whole Farve discussion entertaining. Jen
  • I don't run but my daughters do. They eat pasta the night before a race (usually spaghetti) and then they try to have a breakfast with whole grains and some protein and fruit on the day of the race. They stop eating at least an hour before they run. Good luck!
