Yeah, whole foods are better for us than foods that have been ultra processed. As far as fat consumption is concerned, that is my energy source so I eat lots of it.

Yeah Healthline really didn't describe or explain it properly. All of those cooking methods are describing the "Maillard reaction" which I mention in that Glycemic Index thread as, saying it's a similar situation but the similarity is that glycation is actually the body cooking itself from the inside, that's what glycation…

Yeah, I've described AGE's in quite a few posts in the last few years here. Actually I mentioned it 2 days ago in the Glycemic Index thread. Basically it's the breakdown of sugar and how it reacts to proteins and lipids thereafter. Sugars which extend to mostly processed and ultra processed foods. The Maillard reaction in…

High sodium is pretty well a given in a diet that has enough processed foods for that to be a concern, and processed foods also is where your going to find most of the trans fats in food as well. There is a reason why they're reduced to those low levels and a reason why those low levels are acceptable. The 900 lb gorilla…

That's pretty funny, but yeah that's what most people believe. Here's a basic idea of what ketogenic diet actually comprises of.* Fatty cuts of meat, poultry, fish * Eggs * High-fat nuts, seeds, and nut butters (e.g. macadamia nuts, pili nuts/almonds, hemp seeds) * Low-carbohydrate fibrous vegetables (e.g. leafy greens,…

I've talked about this ad nauseum in past threads but I'll mention it again. There's a metaphor in science that says we're actually cooking from the inside from the moment we're born to the moment we die through a process called glycation. The term "cooking" is similar to the browning that occurs when cooking food known as…

Probably a good idea to find out who Jessie Inchauspe, the Glucose Goddess is and to understand her stance on the science she believes will help people. She doesn't promote a low carb diet or tell people what to eat, except that sugar might be something that people might want to managed better. She does believe that a…

You would thinks so but nope, I mean sure he has a distinct distain that gets him a lot of clicks in the way he talks about carbs in general but I'm talking more in the nutritional scientific community in a general sense. I like Lane and I get behind what he says in the subjects he knows very well which is protein and I…

Also known as Lame Norton in some circles, lol.

Well, good luck and I hope your successful. Be mindful of the fact that the lack of the hormonal regulation that made it work so well for you will be discontinued and suspect your going to have to recognize some old urges and make the best of it. :)

Yeah, your more than likely eating more than you think, most do, and walking for a hour by a lake compared to yoga is probably not the same as far as calories burned. It's all a guessing game at best anyway and if the expected outcome is some exact number based on math, well then most will be disappointed. Give the numbers…

The reason I asked these questions is because certain arthritic conditions like Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis which is mostly skin disorders of which I had both are caused mostly by systematic chronic inflammation that is generally associated with a diet high in sugar and a lot of refined carbs and the foods…

Can I ask a few questions first. I know a little about your journey @springlering62 and was wondering if joint pain was a problem before you lost weight? Also, you said you had blood work done recently and wondering what your triglyceride numbers are and if you know what your C-reactive protein level is? What percentage of…

Almost all people that are successfully adapted to a keto diet and have been on one for more than a month or 2 don't count calories, like myself, so your question is kind of a moot point. There's been a lot of curiosity about low carb and ketogenic diets in general over the last decade and is by far the most googled diet…

It's complicated. It's challenging for many people to maintain their weight despite their awareness of the risks. I don't believe you can rely on examples to try and emulate or use as justification as in your example of a McDonalds diet. Most people don't have the knowledge of food science and human biology to assess if…

Yeah, I've been consuming mostly whole food with a focus on either organic or local farmers I know that try to farm with those same principles in mind. I use to consume pretty much the SAD diet 15 years ago with a few, well more than a few health concerns like insulin resistance and I was 65 lbs overweight. I'm also…

Yeah, I would use goal weigh like @nossmf suggests and not your current weight. :)

First off that's a lot or protein for just about any person, so not sure where you got that number from. I'm 6'1", 185 and I'm around that 160 mark which is primarily from animal sources but if I was a plant eater I would up that by at least 30% to around 210. I use grams per lb of lean mass and not percentage to figure…

Well Lynn that brought back memories, lol. Been there, done that. It's probably the best source of bioavailable calcium. I use to boil and dry the shells then put them in a spice grinder and end up with a powder that I use to add to mostly protein drinks back in the day when I use to drink them. :D

Congratulations and good luck. I would probably supplement with some basic vitamins and minerals, and talk to your Doc just to be safe. Our fat stores were made for situations like this, actually it's why we originally got fat during a yearly cycle, well only if we were good at hunting and gathering stuff. :)

Let me add a few facts that we're not going to hear in editorials from places like Harvard or plant based advocates for people that might be considering a low carb/ketogenic diet because details matter. Of course calories matter when it comes to weight loss but calories are actually the foods we consume and what we eat…

I suspect it gets tiring seeing most of your patients not getting any better after years of advice, enter GLP-1's. At least it puts a temporary smile on your patients which is better than nothing.

IF doesn't necessarily facilitate weight loss unless you actually consumed less calories than you normally would from shortening the window for food consumption and most people either don't know or don't care why there might be other benefits. Here are a few. A few factors involved with IF and probably the main goal and…

No it doesn't. If a substance doesn't create a change in any metabolic processes like black coffee, water, unsweetened tea or herbal tea's which doesn't involves enough calories like in milk, cream or sugar that may elicit an insulin response, then your good to go :) .

Maybe talk to a doctor that understands keto, clearly this one doesn't. I suspect the right advice would be to try a different dietary format where lower fat consumption makes more sense and where someone doesn't think red meat is the devil. Try a protein forward whole food diet and if lower fat is preferred then that can…
-
Well, to lower carbs and sugar intake you would consume fewer carbs and less sugar. :)

Make sure your in contact with your doctor before you start carnivore simply because of the medication you might be on because it's going to greatly effect your medication, which will need to be reduced and can be quite concerning if not dangerous is you don't. Considering the switch from ketovore it should make the…

Eggs have more phosphorus than calcium as you know but if it's one or two eggs a day then the ratio is fine, which is around the 2:1 to 3:1. If your eating a lot more eggs daily like I do then the ratio starts to widen and the need to consume foods that have a decent amount of calcium to bring back that balance is…

When I give in or allow myself to cheat, which does happen from time to time, it's generally bread or pasta but I also know not to do that 2 days in a row, that gets me into trouble.

I'm keto and have made exactly those type of muffins many times which are around 200 calories each, couldn't imagine what a 400 calories muffin looks like or what's in it. Also 3 oz of typical breakfast sausage has 15 g's of protein and yes hopefully a decent amount of fat as well. I'm really not sure what your trying to…
