  • This is me! I lost about 70lbs to get to my current weight and have maintained (more or less) for 5 years. But I have no concept of how I look. I lift weights (heavy) normally 3 days a week and do cardio 3 days a week so not sure how weight training will help. Some days I think I look good, others not so! I know this…
  • Thanks for the advice - will try different shoes this week and see if that overcomes the problem.
  • Learn something new every day! I had never heard of Morton's toe so had to Google it! Yip - I've got it! My second toe is noticeably longer than my big toe. One website suggested a thin pad under the big toe but I'm not sure how that will help.
  • They fit and are relatively new - I only use these shoes for running or metafit. I have flat shoes I wear for weight training. Might try a specialist shop in town that does gait analysis and see if they have any suggestions.
  • Great idea! I live too far away from work to cycle - will have to give this a try. Thank you. Good luck.
  • Lovely idea - I hope you get lots of charms for your bracelet! Enjoy!
  • Well done! You must be so happy!
  • Not very good of the instructor not to run through the basics! For saddle height, try and make sure you have a slight bend at the knee when the pedal is at the bottom position. I think height of handle bars is more personal preference - some people like to be more upright than others. Assuming that the saddle can be moved…
  • I've been doing spin regularly for four years but can still remember the pain after the first class. Stick with it - after a couple of weeks you get used to the saddle! I would persevere and don't bother with the padded seat - don't think they help that much. Did you get advice on setting up the bike properly I.e. saddle…
  • Was starting to think it was just me that wasn't a big NROL4W fan! Tried for a few months but have had better results with a program tailored to suit my own specific requirements.
  • When I was 220lbs, nobody ever told me I was fat or overweight - that would be rude! But now I'm 150 lbs (I'm 5' 8''), people feel they can comment freely! At 52, I'm in the best shape I've ever been in and proud of what I've achieved. Ignore the comments and enjoy your success.
  • I had a similar problem with elbows and shoulders when planking so now do straight arm planks. I also do it sometimes with my hands on a medicine ball - makes it a bit tougher. I never hold a plank for more than a minute at a stretch either - my PT told me there was no point. Think I would die of boredom if I attempted…
  • My gym just outside Glasgow is £30 an hour for a PT. Membership is about £38 a month for peak membership!
  • I do spin, cycle and, occasionally, use an exercise bike. The most uncomfortable out of the lot are exercise bikes! Ten minutes in the oversized saddles and I'm done. Listen to the advice of AEROBICVIC - make sure your bike is properly adjusted and watch technique.
  • Same problem here - I now do all my running on a treadmill as I can never really tell when it's going to happen. Would much prefer to run outdoors but daren't try until I can find a solution.
  • I have a similar problem - I feel really ill shortly after I eat a banana. But I read somewhere that there is some change after banana is cooked. Gave it a try about a month ago making pancakes with a chopped banana through the batter. No detrimental effects and have been eating a few times a week since. May be worth…
  • To be honest, don't bother what anyone thinks. Chances are, nobody will notice anyway! Get to the gym and start lifting - you'll make gains in the weights that you can lift pretty quickly.
  • Totally agree! I lost 70 lbs and have maintained for 3 years thanks to books such as this and a good exercise regime. Honestly think so much is down to changing eating habits/taste and the way you cook. There is no doubt that the Hairy Bikers have done a great job - my son bought me 2 of their non-healthy books a couple of…
  • Got both of their diet books - love them! They're not faddy at all - nice, tasty, no nonsense food that the whole family can eat. Friday night I did the Piri Piri Chicken from the newest book. Think this was my favourite - will definitely do again. Loads of spicy recipes - we like our curries (they have a chapter on…
  • Thanks for the suggestion but the hotel is several miles away from town and I don't have any transport! Cost saving measure by my employer. Quite funny, there are other hotels nearby and their guests are paying in to use the cramped gym in my hotel.
  • I'm currently stuck using a rather small hotel gym for my B workouts. They do have an Olympic bar but the space is so limited that I'm terrified of using the Olympic bar for my dead lifts - people will be going down like dominoes all round me! They do have an EZ curl bar and I googled to see if it would be any good for…
  • Couldn't get on the squat rack on Saturday so used the Smith machine for the first time ever. Totally understand what you mean about it restricting the natural movement and struggled to squat as low as normal - felt very uncomfortable. Will be avoiding in future!
  • I had a problem with callouses, too, even when wearing gloves. I changed to something called Gripads - got them off Amazon in the UK (but I've seen them under other names). Basically, its heavy duty rubber padding that protects the palms of the hands and fingers and are held on with bands that slip on over three fingers. I…
  • I'm Lorna, 50 years old and starting tonight. I've been lifting for 2 years but felt my programme needed a revamp and a bit more structure. Did a bit of research and found NRoL4W which I downloaded to my Kindle Fire at the weekend and have read from cover to cover already. Not taken any 'before' photographs yet but did…
  • Would love to walk the Camino de Santiago - unfortunately, I don't think my boss would be too happy with me disappearing off to Spain for the best part of two months. If you want a light-hearted account of walking the Camino de Santiago, I can recommend Spanish Steps by Tim Moore. Basically, it's a true account of Tim…
  • I use BBC Good Food website as well - lots of good healthy recipes! When I find one that we all like (hubby and two fussy kids), I print off and save in a ring binder. Also do the same for any recipes I may find in magazines - now on my second ring binder! Also makes it easier for planning ahead.
  • Only problem about using diet ready meals is that once you reach target weight, you may end up reverting to your old eating habits to a degree. Much better to try and change the way you cook and the type of foods you eat. Weight Watchers have a great range of books available that helps - and the food is really good even…
