  • Ship another friend request this way! Been logging since 2013...I'm pretty sure I'll never stop. It helps keep me honest with myself :)
  • Peanut butter...I drown the craving in peanut butter! Usually two spoonfulls will be enough to stave off the hunger. If that isn't your cup of tea, look for something with high fat content like Cottage Cheese, Yogurt or Nuts. Personally, when I've tried to satiate with lean proteins or anything with carbs, it doesn't help…
  • I'd love to be a mentor for someone if they would like the help! I've lost over 70 pounds since I started on MFP back in November of 2013, and I can honestly say that losing the weight is the best thing I've ever done. I tried for years to lose the weight on and off and finally saw it through. I know that a lot of you can…
  • Feel free to add me...I'm not too vocal, but I track every day. At least I can clog up your feed :)
  • If you don't want to spend the time cooking, you could invest in a slow cooker. Just throw in some meat, vegetables and broth/sauce in the morning, and you have several portions of warm cooked food waiting for you in the evening. My wife and I both work full time and have two small children...without the slow cooker who…
  • I was up two and a half pounds this morning from Friday. So you know what I'm going to do? Get back in the gym, eat right and work at it all week. It's all about the long term goal, not a short term weekend. Keep your eyes on the prize and keep fighting.
  • Absolutely both! I run two or three times a week, and use yoga during my rest and recovery day for strength and stretching. I've been injury free since starting yoga a year and a half ago. Don't worry at all about embarrassing yourself. I had the same fears when I started too, and no one cares whatsoever except you. Also…
  • I think as long as you don't overindulge at lunch because you are extremely hungry, then it's probably not a big deal to skip. I'm like janejellyroll though, I'm not fun to be around if I don't eat breakfast.
  • I've been down over 70 pounds for about 15 months now. I still keep up with logging constantly, and just stay pretty active. For me, the exercise is now my favorite part of the day. You might think that you get to the point where you start to not think about it as much, but I've found that's never been the case for me. I…
  • Snacking between 3 and 6 PM...it's the only part of the day I feel that I still really struggle with.
  • You sound a lot like me! Northern Indiana here, and in the same boat with my speed in races. I'll shoot you a friend request.
  • Great job! Nicely done on salvaging the bike with mechanical problems. That must have been really hard to try and get through.
  • I don't want to be stuck taking a ton of medications for health problems like everyone in my family, or get diabetes. I'd rather not croak at 50 just because I couldn't control my eating.
  • If you always feel hungry, eat smaller things around the clock. I basically eat six times a day and still hit my calories. If your body is telling you it needs fuel, then fuel it...just don't eat big portions.
  • www.budgetbytes.com is a pretty good resource for healthy recipes on a budget. They actually are in the process of doing the SNAP Challenge, which shows it's possible to still eat healthy on $1.50 a meal. Aside from that, shop the sales at your local stores, don't worry too much about coupons (most of those are for junky…
  • Great post...my last race for the year is this Sunday (two counts as a season), and was curious what others did. For me, I'm planning on mostly lifting with a little bit of yoga/pilates thrown in. I'll try to swim a little bit here and there, but I'm definitely giving my legs a little time off from cardio. I can start em…
  • Oh absolutely. I signed up for one in two weeks about an hour after I got home from the race :) I had hurt my knee and went through rehab, so I wanted to make sure I had no problems with it first. I didn't, and now I'm in. I'm already planning out my training and race schedule for next year. I think I have a problem now...
  • Thanks for the helpful tips everyone. The race was this past Saturday, and it went much better than I thought it would! I opted to start wide on the side at the start of the swim, and was able to keep pace with the leaders who were bunched on the right. I only was close with people going around the buoy, but it all spaced…
  • Great tips in this thread! Thank you everyone for the advice. This is a worry of mine too, that and the start of the swim. I'd prefer to just hang in the back, but I'm actually a pretty strong swimmer. So I'd be swimming over people if I did that. I think it's to the front of the line with me, but I'm afraid of getting…
  • My sister told me that I inspired her to lose weight...I was shocked. She said that after seeing me do it, that maybe it's not so impossible. Man that picked me up.
  • I put on all of my initial weight on back in college when I quit competitive swimming. However I still ate like I was, so I gained a lot of weight pretty fast (from 180 to 230 in about 10 months). Then it got to the point where I just didn't care anymore, and ate what I wanted, when I wanted. I was so overweight, that I…
  • Yep, I either leave some extra calories for the end of the day just in case, or just go to bed.
  • What worked for me on a recent trip was eating smaller breakfasts with protein or fiber (oatmeal / eggs / breakfast meat), trying to eat a lower calorie lunch (didn't always happen) and not snacking. We were busy enough to where I didn't really feel the need to snack anyway. Then I just ate whatever I wanted at dinner. I…
  • Can't agree with this more. It's a lifestyle change, not a diet. Go and enjoy yourself...just don't eat until you want to burst and you will be fine. Just make sure to try and hit your weekly targets.
  • It was the holiday weekend, and one of the first big outdoor grilling/eating weekends. Don't worry about it. Just get back onto it today.
  • Down 42 pounds in just over 6 months. Geez, some of you guys on here are rock stars!
  • South Bend, IN area here...
  • Sammy Watkins is an absolute BEAST. Stevie Johnson's days are numbered. He may turn out to be worth the price. I'm pretty happy with the Bears taking Kyle Fuller. I was surprised they didn't go with Pryor or Clinton-Dix as they REALLY need the safety help, but I could see them taking one in round two. I think Aaron Donald…
  • Word!! If someone brings in donuts or a treat to work, if I want it, I'll fit in into my day. Depriving yourself only leads to binging and falling off the wagon later on, at least in my experience.
  • Yes. Here's the attitude I take...I don't even really worry about macros. It's the same reason that skinny people make the best food critics. Since I'm not going to take in a ton of calories, and I'm going to be a lot more selective on my food choices, then I want to make sure that everything I eat is REALLY GOOD. I'm not…
