  • I've tried to get my family into tracking, but my brother thinks it's stupid and my parents don't want to. At first I bought my own food and just kept that in check. After a while of checking myself every day, it became a habit (which I fell off of for a while, but I'm back). What's great is while my family doesn't care…
  • Plateaus are normal! :) Great job on losing 15 lbs, you're right at the point where it's the first hurdle, but you can do it! What I do for a cheat myself is I allow a snack every day if I need it. Something sweet, usually chocolate, and I work it into the diet for the day. Personally, I choose dark chocolate. It actually…
  • Even just counting calories will make you at least pay attention to what and when you're eating. I exercise a lot during the week, as I do martial arts, but my main issue was just eating too much. Keeping an eye on it, even if I have some fast food here and there, has made a huge difference for me. Find what the cause of…
  • This next set of pounds is going to be tough. It's getting into that middle section where it's a long plateau. But I'm going to try at least! CW: 177 May Goal: 167 GW: 160 (and if I can make that, maybe 155? :D)
  • Manly: I'm trained in Karate and teach in Kendo and Iaido (sword arts) and study multiple other martial arts on the side. I love some stupid action movies, namely Fast and the Furious. I'm a car guy, but there's more to that which will be mentioned in the Feminine section. I'm a huge gamer, and play all sorts of video…
  • I find it really hard to stay under my sodium counts as of now. Only because the things around my house are all filled with it :( Problem is, I live with my family and they don't need to watch it as much as I do. I'm hoping to get a job soon (been unemployed for five months) and get back on eating fresh fruits, veggies,…

  • I'm the one on the left in blue. Kendo is my absolute favorite workout! Second is DDR!
  • Alright, just weighed myself in armor. I'm 184ish, and with my armor I weighed in at 194. That wasn't including the hakama and keikogi, which adds another 2 pounds or so. So yeah, think about adding on 12 - 15 pounds and doing some of the most intense cardio drills -…
  • I am a Kendoist and part time instructor at a local dojo. It's a whole lot of fun and a great workout, especially when wearing all the armor! One day I should weigh myself with it all on and see how much more it adds! I also do Karate occasionally.
  • Just think though, you didn't put on the weight overnight (though sometimes it feels as if we do :-P) , so you shouldn't expect it to be gone overnight as well. Try going on a calm plan at first to work your body into it, You'll be surprised at how quickly (figuratively) you lose weight, even though it's only about a pound…
  • I need to add more avocados to my diet now...
  • I love Thin Mints because they aren't terrible for you. You could have 4 and not break your diet. It's awesome!
  • That Mars-bar cake looks delicious, but only if you eat a tiny square of it for a snack.
  • I have high blood pressure, and after it skyrocketed for a checkup, I decided to cut as much sodium as I could. It's tough, but my blood pressure (according to a home digital bp cuff) has come back down to...still elevated but better. Eat natural foods. Crave sugar? Eat an apple or banana. Cook with herbs and spices,…
  • Soba! Soba! Soba!! Buckwheat noodles are extremely healthy for you and are standard Japanese cuisine, so it automatically goes well with sushi! There are tons of recipes out there, from cold to hot. You can put it in salads and soups, and can even replace high glycemic spaghetti with low glycemic soba and have a much…
  • I will definitely try this for the week. What does everyone use to keep from eating late?
  • @khskr1: Yakitori sauce is a combination of Mirin, sake, soy sauce, and sugar. It's usually used for Yakitori, which is a chicken dish in Japan. @TheMaidOfAstolat: You can substitute a lot of stuff, as the Soba noodles are a great start for many dishes. You can also add meat, like chicken or beef, and it will add a new…
  • These past two weeks have been like that for me. Besides being busy and traveling, Halloween has left piles of candy around the house that weren't given to the kids who came to the door. So yes, you aren't alone in feeling like this. I wish I could offer solutions, but I'm in the same boat you are.
  • My favorite is Monks Bread, but it's kind of local, I don't know how far it goes out from Upstate NY. Of their line, my favorite is the "20 Grain and 4 Seeds" bread. From the Monks Bread website: ( https://monksbread.com/cart/ ) "New... 20 Grain with 4 seeds Our recipe is high in fiber, low in calories and carbs and rich…
  • Edit: I'd say keep on Ewan McGregor. You beat me to the last response. Time for a change of sex here :-P - Jessica Alba
  • Hey everyone! I finally hit my first goal of 180 pounds. Lost about 15 pounds, and now I'm slowly working down closer to a healthy weight! This site has been a huge help, even though I wasn't on it for a while due to laziness ^_^;;
  • Another good one is Dance Dance Revolution. It takes some time to learn, but once you get up to some of the higher levels, it becomes a serious workout. Before arcades died out, I used to play DDR competitively, and every time I'd leave the arcade sweating and out of breath. It's also on older gaming consoles, so if you…
  • Well, us guys might not have the same exact problem, but we've got a whole bunch of other problems that clothing makers don't take into account. For example. Now that I'm a bit thinner, I can fit into 34 jeans with a little room. But my legs are built so large that I need the loosest fitting cut to get them to fit around…
  • I feel the same way about fluctuating weight. I weighed myself and was happy to see 185 on the scale. I was happy the next two days simply because it was STILL 185  Congrats on your success!
  • After being sick for a week, I got up and went to my martial arts practice yesterday. Felt good, even though I was out of shape after not going for a week. I was worn out before everyone else  . However, I checked today, and while I haven't been checking in every day with my food, I have been watching what I eat. I…
  • I go out with my friends a lot, and sometimes we'll go to a fast food place. Sadly, McDonald's has been great, since their Quarter Pounder is pretty decent for fast food. Sodium levels are ridiculous, though :(
  • On Mondays and Thursdays, I have to eat quite a bit, as I do martial arts on those days. However, those days are the days where I go about 1000 - 2000 over in my sodium content. Even things such as bread has extremely high amounts of sodium for one slice, so even eating a sandwich cuts out half of my sodium intake for very…
  • From what I heard, you should eat your BMR calories, but stay under your maintain calories. I'm doing that by eating 1900 calories a day, which is 350 under my maintain cals. My BMR was around 1800.
  • Friends with high metabolisms are nice to have  After I work out, I'm usually going out with friends. I eat most of my calories back when we're hanging out at a restaurant or something.
