I just seem to go over my sodium...Yes I know 2500+ is not good but I cant help but to eat pickles and hot sauce from time to time. I don't eat it everyday I just enjoy it and yet when I eat Tuna or soup on top of that it just kills it. I guess I just like to know if anyone else is with me on this. It makes me feel bad to see it in the red is all.

I have a really hard timewith my sodium intake too...on top of that I love salt so I have been trying not to use it at all some things I have learned to eat with no salt but others I can't seem to do it yet. I just try and drink alot more water don't know if it will help but I think if I drink alot more water it will flush alot of it out!

Try and limit it to just one pickle or a dash of hot sauce. I'm with you with the hot sauce. It is a weakness of mine. I find that if I use a fresh jalepeno it takes the need for the hot sauce, and will eliminate a lot of the sodium. Maybe make your own hot sauce?

I tend to go over every now and then. But since I started to really track that, I have been good. Every now and then it creeps up to almost the 2500 count, but I don't think I've gone over in a while.

*Edit: have you tried using pepper instead of salt on your let's say mashed potatoes? Pepper is better for you and still gives flavor to stuff*

I go over on my sodium every now and then, but I honestly don't worry about it. I do tough workouts that leave me drenched in sweat, drink a ton of water, I don't have high blood pressure and I don't seem to retain water.

I think some people benefit by limiting sodium, but just as many people can have 2500+ mg of sodium and have no issues/side effects.

I find it really hard to stay under my sodium counts as of now. Only because the things around my house are all filled with it :( Problem is, I live with my family and they don't need to watch it as much as I do. I'm hoping to get a job soon (been unemployed for five months) and get back on eating fresh fruits, veggies, and cook a lot more. It's the best way to control your sodium.

Want some recipes? I have this site bookmarked but haven't cooked much on there. Maybe you can find something to try! http://www.lowsodiumcooking.com/free/index.htm

I blew the roof off my sodium count yesterday! I had a Subway Cold Cut Combo and BAM!... more sodium than I was supposed to have all day.
I generally keep pretty good track of it, but sodium is in everything! It is really hard to keep my sodium level low.

I average 3500mg. Lots of water, lots of excercise, and potassium rich foods negate any adverse threats posed by high levels of sodium intake.

Sodium is not bad for you, don't worry about it too much. Being around 2500/day is absolutely fine. Also note you can lose upwards of 2g/hour of sodium during heavy exercise which needs to be replenished, so if you do 30 mins of cardio you could up that to 3000-3500 for that day from 2500 with no side-effects.

See jdm_taco there. I average about 3k myself. During bulking phases I'll be upwards of 5000/day on average, with no problems.

Note if you suffer from hypertension or heart disease, that goes out the window, and you should speak with a licensed medical doctor regarding your sodium intake goals.

Once you know which foods are sky-high in sodium, you can pick alternatives. Restaurant and processed food are loaded with them. Even canned tomatoes are full of salt so that's why I use fresh for recipes. The more stuff you can make fresh, the less sodium you will get. Soups are notious for sodium. Lunch meats are also really high. And bread. Lots of sodium. I choose a whole grain bread that is the lowest of the ones I checked. If something is loaded with salt/sodium, just don't eat as much of it. You can add flavour with less salt by using herbs, pepper etc.
I'm usually within the range and only over once in a while. I make a vegetable stew and I've found I can get away with adding very little salt since it is so packed full of flavour and also has some added heat from a couple pinches of cayenne pepper.

Don't eat the pickles, tuna and soup all in the same day. Pre-plan your meals and you'll easily be able to decrease your sodium intake.
