  • Lots of things can make us dissatisfied with the way we look...not just weight. The best remedy I know is to retrain yourself to look at what's RIGHT with your body. From your photo, I can see a great smile, pretty eyes and pretty hair. All too often we look at the two or three things that we'd like to change and forget…
  • Welcome!! And good luck...you can do it! Skinny is right...once you get the portion control down (and give yourself about a month to adjust to the smaller portions), you're on your way! Feel free to add me!
  • Bob's Red Mill 5-grain cereal. It's very high fiber, very low sugar and VERY filling. You don't have to cook it...add water, cinnamon, vanilla and honey the night before and let it soak overnight. Eat as cold cereal with fruit the next morning. Yum!
  • Here's a super way to cut down calories from salad dressings. Order it on the side and just dip your fork in it. Then spear your veggies. You get all the flavor and a fraction of the calories--about 1 teaspoon on a side salad and a tablespoon on a huge dinner salad. The calorie savings add up fast if you eat a salad every…
  • Welcome! Feel free to add me. Good luck reaching your goal--you can do it!
  • Everybody's different. I've lost 25 pounds, three inches from my top but still very little from my waist. Rule of thumb is you lose inches last where you first put them on. It's certainly true in my case.
  • Good luck! You can do it. Even baby steps add up fast if you stick with them. Feel free to add me.

  • I had my nicer (read: more expensive) pants altered. In Houston, it runs about $14/pair but my tailor said if I'd bring them all at once, she'd do it for $8/pair. The cheaper ones, donate. See if there's a dress-for-success type charity in your area. They outfit underprivileged women who are trying to re-enter the…
  • Neufchatel is a good bit softer than cream cheese. If you use it, drain it first. I'd just get the fat free Philly. It won't hurt if you cut the sugar. If you want the rum flavor, put it in an earthenware bowl and ignite it. Burns off the alcohol in seconds which is where a lot of the calories are. Or use half ignited rum…
  • I agree. If they've got veggies, etc. in them they taste just like eggs. @lor007, one egg has about 230 mg of cholesterol. If you eat any meat the same day you eat one egg, you'll be over the recommended allowance.
  • I'm with pupcamper on this. I finally cut out refined sugar (and wheat--might as well make a clean sweep) about 4 weeks ago. I'm a starch queen. Get stressed and gobble. I still eat sugar but it's in fruit, honey or agave nectar now. And only once in 4 weeks did I binge on carbs. I have to plan snacks and meals ahead and…
  • We have the same situation at my office. I hate for people to waste money on food for me. Honesty is the best policy but some people can't deal with it. I size up the person offering. If they're a mature, well-adjusted person I tell them thanks but I'm on a really strict diet and can't eat it. Those types always understand…
  • Any of the fish or shrimp dishes are usually pretty light. Ranchero sauces over cream, chicken tamales over pork or beef, charro or black beans instead of refried. I'll sometimes order enchiladas or such and get pico de gallo instead of the fat-laden sauces. The sodium is out the roof so beware the queso! You can ask that…
  • You can do it! Feel free to add me as a friend.
  • Probably measured diced or shredded. It's good in salads and a GREAT lo-cal snack. I sometime carry a bag of them when I'm walking since it's very watery--almost like taking a drink but with a satisfying crunch. It molds REALLY fast if you don't peel it. I rub mine with apple cider vinegar if I don't have time to peel and…
  • "How much sodium is in that?" "No thanks." (to cheese, one of my favorite foods) "I need to walk another mile." "Too salty." (Now it burns my mouth) "That didn't even taste good." "Not worth the fat calories." :>)
  • If you're the sort of person who worries about daily fluctuations, by all means save yourself the headaches and only weigh yourself weekly. If you decide to go daily, do it at the same time every day to keep from freaking out when you see you're 2 pounds heavier in the evening than the morning. :>)
  • My granddaughter hates water too. I'm not overly fond of it myself unless it's mineral water packaged in glass. I can taste the plastic...Have you tried mineral water? If she'll drink juice, make it mostly water so she can get it that way. How about coconut water? Although it's kind of expensive she might like that. Maybe…
  • For cooking, I use butter for dishes that need butter flavor to taste right, olive oil otherwise. (Canola and corn are too high in Omega-6 fatty acids.) A lot of things that I used to butter I've learned to use nothing. For instance, if you're having toast and fruit preserves, you truly won't miss the butter after a couple…
  • There are several reason. Here's a good article that explains it. http://www.livestrong.com/article/303582-why-is-belly-fat-the-last-to-go/ If your blood cortisol levels are elevated, your tendency to gain belly fat are inclreased. Stress causes cortisol levels to rise so it you're stressed, try learning some relaxation…
  • Your body won't go into starvation mode in one day. It actually takes 3-4 weeks of severely curtailed calories to send your body into super-storage mode. If I'm hungry, I eat back my exercise calories. If I'm not, I don't. If you have true cravings (not just habitual munchie-type craving), your body is telling you it's out…
  • You may be paying the price for what you ate and drank in Jamaica but I wouldn't worry about it too much if you're back on your normal routine now. You can be overWEIGHT without being overFAT. I too am very muscular--from track, weight training, backpacking with a 50-75 pound pack, etc. I'm 5'4, BTW. I don't even really…
  • Hang in there--don't give up. If you're losing inches, you're doing fine. I only weigh myself once a week. Otherwise I get too hung up on my weight and not on my SIZE. You can be overWEIGHT without being overFAT. I am very muscular and don't see the scale move much but I've lost 5 sizes...down from a 14 to a 9. The real…
  • My hubby has worked nights for about 7 or 8 years now. You figure out ways to be together...We'd meet in the AM for my breakfast, his dinner. Then he goes to bed and I go to work. Same in the evening...I wake him up and he has breakfast while I have dinner. Do be sure you can blackout your bedroom. Research shows that you…
  • FATNASTIC job! Keep up the good work!
  • I used to do the same thing--good all day then snarfed up everything in sight at night--especially carbs--easily 600-800 calories. What finally did the trick for me was dropping white sugar and white flour products. I switched to high-fiber complex carbs, sweetened only with honey or agave nectar and the evening gobbles…
  • Do you eat a lot of sweetened foods? I had hunger pangs until I cut out cane sugar. Now I only eat honey, maple syrup or agave nectar and it really made a difference. On days when I'm hungry, I eat high-fiber complex carbs. Really keeps me full. You can see my diary--try the 5-grain cereal.
  • Feel free to add me...
  • Inspiring!! Well done!
