Don't be depressed about the past. Be happy about the present and look forward to the future. You've done a great job!

I think you're referring to your Basal Metabolic Rate. Some people do subtract it out. I don't. Probably more accurate, but I'm usually not so close on my calories to have it make a difference.
-
I'm not sure how tall you are, but that seems kind of high for someone under 137 lbs. I would question the calculations.

Bud Select isn't too bad. There's actually a fairly new Bud Select 55. Only 55 calories. Bud's answer to MGD 64. I haven't tried it, though. Or...you could just do a triple workout and have Leinenkugel 1888 Bock. Best beer, ever! :-)

Eat your exercise calories. You said that every day you would have 500 calories left over. So, if you set your profile up to lose 1 lb/week, you actually had a 1000 calorie deficit each day...now you've increased you cardio, and calories burned, but not your intake. Your body needs fuel. Feed it.

Sounds like you're off to a good start. One thing I would caution you about is weighing yourself daily. Your body will go through normal fluctuations on a day to day basis. Pick a day/time to weigh-in 1/week and stay away from the scale for a week. Too easy to get discouraged by daily fluctuations. Just my 2 cents. Good…

I think it means you've exceeded your goal amount of protein. For example, my profile has a goal of 90 grams of protein per day. Saturday, I recorded 103 grams of protein. I had a red -13 in my "Remaining" line under protein. Hope that helps.

I use mine mainly to just track my calories burned. You can setup a target heart rate zone. I am by no stretch of the meaning an expert on this...so, check out this website: http://www.brianmac.co.uk/hrm1.htm

Question about my post...Are we not supposed to use the names of sporting goods stores or is it because the name, used in a different context, could be considered profanity? Just curious.
-
I'm pretty sure the HRMs with the chest strap are more accurate. I bought a Timex brand HRM from ****'s Sporting Goods for $69.99. It works great! It doesn't store as much data as my wife's Polar 6, but it's good enough for me.

I will usually listen to music if I'm running on the treadmill at the gym. Mainly because I find it sooooo boring. I don't listen to music if I'm running outside. When I'm running outside, I'm usually trying to maintain a certain pace and I think it's easier for me to do if I focus on my running, not what's on my Ipod. I…

Yep, just started in the spring. Thanks. I kinda jumped in feet first. I'm running my 3rd 10K on the 20th of this month. It's called the Omaha Corporate Cup.
-
Don't be overwhelmed by those times. Keep in mind that those are the times of the people that are winning the races. They most certainly didn't start running in the last few months. Anyway, congrats on getting into running. I think it's great that you're already considering running competitively. Speaking from experience,…

I used that stuff for a while, the chocolate flavor, though. I found that mixing it with a metal whisk attached to a mixer worked best for me. The thing you have to watch out for with products like that is that they are not evaluated by theFDA....it says so, right on the label. So....it is possible that it doesn't contain…

Great. That sounds like a plan. I'm with you, I'd rather over-estimate.

How do you count the nutritional info of any marinades you use? For instance, we're having flat iron steaks marinated in Claude's Fajita Marinade for dinner tonight. I won't actually be consuming as much marinade as I used for the steaks. How would you suggest I track this?

Oh yeah...I am definitely planning to break them in with a walk or two (at least) before the 10k. Good lookin-out, though.
-
I'm not really hankering for a workout, I'm just concerned about not running at all the week before the 10k. Plus, I got some cool new Pearl Izumis I want to try out. Maybe one more day of rest and Advil.
-
I'm running my first 10k this weekend, wish me luck. I'm pretty sure I've conditioned myself well enough to finish in under an hour, but I do have a question. A couple of hours after my run last Saturday, my right hamstring felt really tender. I've been taking Advil with ibuprofen for a couple of days, and haven't tried…

I really like the Onyx brand from Complete Nutrition. I add 1 scoop to 1 cup of skim milk and mix it with a whisk attachment to my mixer. I think it tastes pretty good.

That great! I know it really kept me motivated when people would notice my weight loss. On the other side though, I find it odd when people who haven't seen me in a while don't notice or don't say anything. I've lost 38 pounds since November...the beer gut is gone, and some people still don't seem to notice. Anyway,…

Not wasting your time....35 pounds since 1 Nov 2008, don't even know where the gym is... Good luck

I drink beer....sometimes it's hard to find good info on beers that aren't considered light beers. I found this website while searching for Michelob Amber Bock. http://www.dietfacts.com/html/nutrition-facts/anheuser-busch-michelob-amber-bock-beer-5-2percent-alcohol-by-volume-14203.htm This one seems pretty good, too.…

We like to marinate the chicken breasts in Claude's fajita marinade, then grill 'em. Very tasty. Kind of high in sodium, but goooood... http://www.claudessauces.com/p_claudes_fajita_sauce.html

I generally don't subtract out the resting calories for cardio, but I will for strength training. What I do is go to the Tools tab and get my BMR. Then I divide my BMR by 24 (hours in a day) then by 60 (minutes in an hour) to figure out my BMR for a minute. Then I multiply that by the number of minutes I exercised. I…

I found this on a message board...Give it a try... Brendon said... Here's some propriotary info for you... I came across a posting from someone with the same confusion. http://www.thedailyplate.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=111941&sid=78802b2b48abcd0033e10a7e35554045 He emailed the company (he didn't specify) who makes his HR…

I would suggest you get some more info from your doctor or read the South Beach Diet book. My wife and I did the South Beach Diet in 2004 and did real well losing the weight. The weight did come back, but that's because I didn't stick with my plan to keep the weight off. Yes, you do need carbs. The first line in the book…

I like the Onyx brand from Complete Nutrition. Seems to work well, and tastes good, too.

I've been having that problem for a couple of weeks now. I just don't feel hungry enough to eat that many calories during the day. Then the evening comes and I have like 500-600 calories left and don't feel like piling on the food that close to bed time. Today I was good though. I should be able to get within 100 of my…

I agree that she is nuts. My understanding is that someone paid for her IVF. At least, that's what my wife told me.
