  • Just for today, I will: Stick to getting my long run in today despite the weather. Drink at least 2-3L water Log my calories Commit to simple meal prep in anticipation of a crazy work week.
  • I'm a slow runner too, (located in Colorado) and I run alone for the exact reasons you posted: trying to keep up with others only triggers tons of anxiety and self doubt, and I start to hate an activity that has always felt like a release to me. I'm doing a 10K next Saturday and am also training for a half in March.
  • I feel like I've just found my home. :) Online gaming only consists of WoW at the moment as I also have a tiny human, but prior Rift and LOTR player, LOVED SWTOR but our guildies gravitated back to WoW. Registered nurse in real life, and love to Geocache to get some fresh air and play the devious nerd.
  • I'm a busy mom of 3 that works full time as a triage nurse doing back to back 12 hour nights. You have to accept that YOU are the only one accountable for your actions or inaction, not the other busy factors in your life. If you don't want it bad enough, the excuses will keep coming.
  • Had a really tough time with W3D2 today and wound up walking a lot more than I wanted to. I think I might wind up repeating W3 because there's no way I'm ready for W4 yet. On the plus side, this is THE FIRST TIME I've ever made it past week 1. I can do this!
  • I'm not the OP, but this was such a timely thread as I'd been wondering the same thing myself. Thanks for all the insight!
  • True, but if you aren't eating salmon and almonds every day then where are the rest of the healthy fats coming from? (I'm only assuming however-the salmon and chicken may be getting cooked in olive oil or something similar, just not added to the grocery list.) Chickpeas are a great suggestion, Melanie! I didn't think about…
  • This isn't cake, but it's the best darn protein packed brownie I've ever eaten. You can cut into smaller squares for a lower calorie treat. I make and freeze batches of these during biking season as part of a post ride snack. http://www.theironyou.com/2011/05/best-protein-brownies.html
  • Are you opposed to lean beef or pork? I also don't see any healthy fats or oils, which are also important to add. Are you mixing your protein powder with water, or are you using an almond or coconut milk? I like to freeze my coconut milk in ice cube trays and then store them in a freezer bag to pop in the blender with my…
  • Unless you're a pretty small 60 year old male, I'd have to agree with the above post: you're either eating more than you think and aren't tracking portion sizes correctly, or you're eating far too little for your frame and your TDEE. Have you done the calculations on In Place of a Road Map to find a more accurate target…
  • I was a gestational diabetic with my last pregnancy and went almost completely paleo-but I kept eating steel cut oats because they were filling and I liked them too much to give up. As a result of the diet change, my blood sugars were fantastic! Fasting glucose was between 75-80, and post meal blood sugars (2 hours post…
  • To each their own, I guess. I don't use this site because I'm a slave to the calories, I use it as a tool to be accountable to myself. It's my way of being honest after years and years of bad habits.
  • We love doing p90x, and during the warmer months we do a lot of trail biking together.
  • If you're on Pinterest, type bento into the search bar. There's some awesome boards that have a ton of healthy bento recipes, some of which I would have never even thought of had I not been bored enough to do a random search. :)
  • I usually just reply with a shrug and simple, "yup", and am left alone. Food for thought (my apologies for the pun): Most people don't ask about or point out your eating habits unless they're feeling uncomfortable about themselves. It's a projection of their own feelings onto you.
  • Shoot, let them give you looks! Maybe it'll make them uncomfortable enough to change some bad habits of their own? Are you able to switch out your chair for an exercise ball? They're quite comfortable to sit on and you can bounce or do crunches, plus sitting up straight really encourages core stability. It wouldn't hurt to…
  • CJ, I love that idea! I'm going to start doing that as well!
  • I will focus on the accomplishment of logging for 8 days straight, rather than allow the intimidating number of 59 pounds remaining daunt me.
  • I had planned out a no-count cheat breakfast this morning, and a few things happened. First, I didn't enjoy it at all even though I wholeheartedly tried, and I found myself craving a healthier breakfast instead. Second, I swore that I would make it a no-count breakfast as a treat, but I hated the thought of not counting…
  • The Gracious Pantry is a great site! I find it's easier to eat clean if I stick to shopping the perimeter of the store and try to avoid the aisles as much as possible. There's some things I need to get that aren't on the perimeter, but I've found that sticking to this method of shopping has improved the way my family eats…
  • My favorite breakfast is oatmeal with a tablespoon of peanut butter and a tablespoon of semi sweet chocolate chips for sweetness with a splash of reduced fat milk. It's higher calorie, but it reminds me of a cookie and keeps me full well into the afternoon! :)
  • I used to drink quite a bit of coffee and loved it with cream and sugar, but when I became pregnant last year I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. It was a HUGE adjustment, but like the other posters I weaned myself. I switched to Stevia in the meantime but I was concerned with using artificial sweeteners during…
  • The first two weeks are absolutely the hardest, but after those first two weeks you'll find that you're not exhausted, you're actually ENERGIZED. It feels really good, and it's a wonderful stress relief. I'm just getting back on the wagon after having a baby, so I understand the wanting to stay in bed. :) You just have to…
  • I'm also a night shift nurse and work 3 back to back 12's a week Wednesday-Friday. I find that if I count my calories from midnight to midnight, it makes calorie counting a LOT easier than trying to cram things into one day and figuring out how to place them the next day. I also changed my meal names to Meal 1, Snack 1,…
  • Congrats AlisalGal! Day 5 check in for me, whoop whoop! I couldn't remember if today was day 4 or 5 for me (night shifter with an infant, and sleep deprived!) so I was incredibly excited to log on this morning and see my 5 day streak notification. It was incredibly motivating to keep the streak up and push forward,…
  • I'm a night shift hospice nurse, working 3 back to back 12's a week. I'm finding it hard to get in enough calories on the nights I work, which leave me with little energy once I wake up. I'm working on fixing this issue in the coming weeks with more condensed, higher calorie meals on my work nights. Feel free to add me!
  • Half and half with about a teaspoon of Torani flavored syrup for sweetness. Coffee is the one thing I won't skimp on.
  • If you're looking for snack type foods, baby carrots and ranch dressing, celery with peanut butter and raisins, no bake energy bites (easy recipe on Pinterest, much cheaper to keep the ingredients around to make instead of splurging on premade bars), trail mix, hard cheeses with whole grain crackers, protein powder and a…
