  • Ditto the strength training under cardio. I also wear a HRM. The MFP estimate isn't far off for me actually.
  • Exfoliate/pumice/whatever chosen method. Moisturize. I don't think mine are really noticeable at all. But I agree with viewing it as a sort of badge of honor. It shows you work hard!
  • I like seeing 300 burned, but that's just because I like to eat a lot! No magic number, no. Ditto the previous poster who said just find something you enjoy and get into a groove. Rest days are important. I usually workout 5 days a week, sometimes 6.
  • Hell no. If I cared enough about it, I'd wax. I wouldn't shave.
  • ^Yep. This. She has a whole chicken section you can peruse and she counts the calories for you, so if you follow the recipe, you're golden.
  • I freaking love PB. But only Crazy Richard's pb. No added oil, sugar, or salt. It's perfect. I agree that PB2 is just not the same, though I've used it for baking with good results. I think of it as a healthy fat; something to have in moderation.
  • 165 or so in HS. 145 now and much lower body fat since I strength train. I'm in way better shape than I was in HS.
  • You're not very tall, so it could be that your calorie goal is just a little high to be losing. I'm 5'6'' and I don't lose when I net what you're netting right now. That's all fairly variable, but just throwing it out there. Are you using a HRM when you workout? If you're going by MFP to log workouts and you're eating back…
  • You may want to go to an Overeaters Anonymous meeting. I've been thinking about going to one near me. Holding myself accountable to a diet has been helpful for the most part. Something that is structured like the 21 day sugar detox or the Game On diet (diet is like a game with friends, extra accountability). But I still…
  • I'm 26. I gained a lot of weight during pregnancy and now I'm at my lowest adult weight. I'm down about 70lbs from my top pregnancy weight (I use the pregnancy weight when talking about loose skin, because that seems applicable). So, yes. I have a lot of loose skin on my stomach. Yes, I've done strength training all along.…
  • If it's a special occasion you want to drink for (Halloween, birthday, etc), I wouldn't really worry about it. Try to make good food choices that day and drink up. Generally speaking, I'm aiming for alcohol only once a week. Even if I hit my calorie goals with beer or wine in there, too many days of it seems to keep me…
  • I have found that picking a short term diet that MAKES you limit carbs and eat veggies/fruit/protein is helpful. It helps rewire my brain a little. I've done the 21 day sugar detox. I've done a little paleo. Even gluten free for a month. The 21 day sugar detox helped to most to get me to actually enjoy veggies.
  • How long have you been low-ish on carbs? If you look at your diary, are you actually low in carbs? I've been doing a sugar detox, which by nature is low carb. The first few days my stomach would get a little queasy and I got light headed. Now, I'm fine and adjusted.
  • My weight fluctuates like crazy. Sometimes going over a little in calories won't make me "gain" the next day...it's more to do with *what* I ate. Pizza, even if I was within cals, will make me go up 10 lbs the next day. And it takes 5ish days to go back to normal. Today, I'm up .8 lbs, but I don't count it unless it sticks…
  • Probably eating pizza way too often (like almost every Fri or Sat), drinking more alcohol, and wondering why working out wasn't enough to make me skinny!
  • Yep. Along these lines, I totally get it. Sometimes I need to unplug or I'll start beating myself up too much. "Why am I not as successful/happy/wealthy/smart/gorgeous/and so on?" There have been studies that show too much time of Facebook can actually depress people for this reason. We all only put the highlights on FB,…
  • I would assume this. I also just fluctuate a lot, so I'm used to it. If I do heavy lifting and eat a lot of sodium in a day? +5 lbs the next day. Yep.
  • I'm 5'6" and float between 145-155 lbs. I've been doing some sort of strength training for 1.5 years, heavy lifting for about 1 year. I noticed a difference in a few months and I continue to see small changes as I go. I finally see my triceps now after 1.5 years!

  • ^What they both said. Start a weight training program. I started New Rules of Lifting for Women about a year ago and I'm doing StrongLifts 5x5 now. All of the changes that I've really loved seeing in my body have been a result from weight training, not just losing weight.

  • That is awesome! Congrats to her-- she looks great! And, yes, what an inspiration!
  • One. Jobs that make you sit on your asss for 9 hours a day should help pay for obesity treatment/help.

  • OMG. I'm there. And I had no idea it was normal. Thank you.
  • I'm with ya. Keeping all the bad food out of the house helps *most* of the time. But not always. If I'm stressed enough I will bake/scrounge/go out and buy something. Logging it would probably help. And maybe even journaling when you feel like binging or even when you do binge.

  • For ****'s sake. Can I say **** on mfp? It makes sense to call it a disease on various levels. ESPECIALLY so public policy and health care decisions can be made.
  • I'm there. Though, my weight has about the same for the last few months and I still feel this way.
  • I just divide by the serving, like pp said. I know there's a little more error there, because I just eyeball it. Say I make 1 oz of pasta per person for four people, I just look at it and try to give myself 1/4 of the total made and log 1 0z of pasta. Maybe I got 1.1 oz... But, really, it should be pretty darn close…
  • This is pretty much me.Pear shape + strength training... But I was so happy when I realized I had that "window" after losing weight. Ha.
  • My favorites have been when people have noticed how toned my arms have gotten. Other than that the "you don't need to lose any more weight" is kind of nice. Or when people actually think I know stuff about fitness because I look relatively fit now.
  • Probably most people here have a desk job. I do. You need to up your activity level (i.e. work out). And, of course, log and eat sensibly. Don't go for a drastic cut in calories, so you can stick with it for the long haul.
