  • This is my first Mother's Day. I am not about the commercial part. I just want a quiet day with my new little family. My daughter was born 10 weeks premature and this is the first weekend she is allowed out and about in the world. So my husband, daughter and I will be going to Mass together for the first time since she was…
  • I have been on every meal plan out there for carb counts and for me personally I found that I maintain weight at around 75g per day and lose consistently if I stay under 50g per day. I have the best results though if I am on a low carb/high fat diet called the ketogenic diet. It is tough, but for me it is the only way I…
  • I cook it in a skillet that has a lid. I take one stalk and bend it until it breaks then cut the rest to that length. This gets rid of the woody ends. Then take the tops of the asparagus and wash them then put them in the skillet with enough water to cover about half of the width of the stalk. Put the lid on and turn it on…
  • Yeah that sounds like a recipe for disaster. Carbs and fat are both fuel sources. Protein is much harder to turn into fuel. Personally I typically am on a low carb diet due to health issues so my fats are higher. With out my fat being high enough, I feel like crap. It sounds like you are doing what you need to do. Just…
  • Fat and protein are definitely more filling. Any time I eat carbs like that for any meal I get hungry again almost immediately. I have to balance with fat particularly. Eggs and sausage or some other meat are way more filling and don't take any more time to make.
  • Are you continuing to drink enough water? Are you getting enough electrolytes? If you aren't getting enough of either it can cause water retention and perceived weight gain. Also, everything that frob23 said.
  • Did you cut your fat intake too low? This and too low in water consumption are the two most common issues contributing to constipation according to my doctor. At least .3 g of fat per lb of weight is the general recommendation for healthy hormone and digestive system. Normally I have to be on a low carb/high fat diet for…
  • I had this for years growing up and even this past year (pregnant atm so not so much right now). I was never depressed and would go through times of loving food but ultimately I only ate because I had to. Oddly enough, it was due to a hormonal imbalance. I still struggle with it sometimes. My hunger cues are very delayed…
  • I used to think the same thing. I have always had more guy friends than girl friends and I just thought we were good friends. I have some great friends still that are guys but we are all part of couples and the couples are all friends. College was the real eye opener for me. I was in a relationship with my now husband and…
  • I had the laparoscopic gall bladder removal about 6 years ago. I was in college for engineering and we had books that we had to carry for class. Moving as in walking and such as soon as possible is very helpful but I couldn't even carry the books (about 30lbs with the back pack) for 2 weeks and I couldn't work out other…
  • This ^ Fat is particularly necessary for women as it helps regulate the hormonal system. So going too low on fat is way worse than going too high. With my issues I typically have to keep my fats closer to 50% or more of my daily goal.
  • This is true! Comments like that annoy me. When I was 22, I had graduated college, had my first real job and I was completely supporting myself and saving money. Not because anything was handed to me but because I worked my butt off to get there! OP: Speaking your mind isn't going to help the situation at all at this point…
  • Kiwi's have almost the same amount of potassium per 100g as a banana. Also, unless you suffer from cramps on the regular you probably are getting enough.
  • Though I agree with most of your post I just wanted to clarify for someone who might be insulin resistant and/or diabetic. Certain artificial sweeteners can cause an insulin response and can effect your blood sugar. But only a minority people have this problem I just wanted to clarify because I found I had this issue with…
  • Very good post! I completely agree!
  • It is possibly that she is not insulin resistant. I can assure you that every woman who has PCOS is not that same and it is great for her that she can lose like that but I for one can't lose weight unless I watch my carbs. Even eating 1000 calories a day under doctor supervision I couldn't lose weight if my carbs were…
  • I did a research paper in college about coffee and when it becomes bad for you. I focused on the chemical side of things as it was for a chemistry class. But in order for any of the properties to effect you negatively you would have to drink well over a gallon of coffee per day (which my professor did...he drink a whole 32…
  • Prior to getting pregnant, I was low carb and I was eating 1-2 eggs almost every day. I know many people who eat 10+ eggs per week for years and show no bad side effects from it. The main restriction for low carb is getting too much protein. Eat the whole egg and use butter or olive oil to add fat during the cooking…
  • What I truly don't understand is why everyone is so focused on labels. I mean seriously, whether you are gay, straight, fat, skinny, male, female, black, white, orange or purple, we are all people. Labels are what is wrong not the people being labeled. It is one thing to not be supportive of an unhealthy lifestyle but…
  • I have had this hypoglycemia for years until this past summer. If I went even 3 hrs without eating something, I would start getting what my husband calls "hangry" and then if I didn't eat right away at this point then I would get shaky, tired, and weak feeling. But I would literally have to force myself to eat because I…
  • I have had PCOS probably all my life but I didn't get diagnosed until 18 after having all kinds of issues. It does make it harder to lose weight! I am also insulin resistant and I was exactly like you said. I was extremely active, I ate healthy according to everything I could find, I never drank sodas, I avoided sweets as…

  • Most of the time I keep my carbs under 75g per day. Most people say that eating .85 and 1g protein per lb of lean body mass is sufficient to maintain that body mass so for me I stay around 100-120 grams of protein. The rest should be fat. Fat isn't going to make you fat so don't be afraid of it!
  • Are you drinking enough water? LCHF needs way more water than people think. This will help in your recovery from your exercise too. Also, you may be eating too much. No matter what kind of eating plan, if calories are too high, you won't lose weight. Everyone has a calorie limit that they need to hit. For me it is 1600…
  • I started keto back in June and I have PCOS too. In three months, most of my symptoms had reversed and I even started ovulating! I got pregnant and had to up my carbs for now but as soon as I can I will be back at it. I love it! My husband loves it and does great on it as well! Feel free to friend me if you want even…
  • I was never regular but that was the time of my life that I was the most active. My doctor at the time said that being that active at that age could cause me to be irregular from the beginning. I was definitely never regular. But some women do have it the other way around because symptoms can change. I'm not saying that is…
  • I have never had it on cereal but I have used it for baking and for shakes and I like the unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Nothing will have the same texture though I don't think. My husband thought he was lactose intolerant for a while but it turned out to be something else. He really liked the lactaid options.
  • I was told for years that I had exercise induce amenorrhea and it turned out to be PCOS. PCOS is a syndrome (meaning each persons symptoms can be different) so it is possible to have without having cysts. I didn't have cysts when I was first diagnosed and it took them 5.5 years to figure out what was wrong with me. But…
  • It doesn't matter really if you don't have high blood pressure or something similar. Drink more water to keep the retention down. I have never had an issue with water retention but I drink about a gallon of fluids a day (water and un-sweet tea).
  • Plus a multivitamin and if I start cramping, a potassium supplement.
  • Black and/or green olives, full fat cheeses, lunch meats, veggies and full fat creamy dressings like ranch or blue cheese, almonds (even some of the flavored ones are very low carb), avacados, dill pickles, hard boiled eggs, deviled eggs made with mayo, dill pickle relish, mustard, salt and pepper. Dinners are usually just…
