  • Hmmm. The body fat calculations seem like another way to look at this. Very helpful! I will look into that more. As to babesintow's concerns. Thank you for taking the time to be worried about me. You're very sweet! Because of my illness, I do suffer from some of the things you mentioned- but that is normal for someone with…
  • OP: I actually get what you're saying. The workouts you choose do impact the way your body bulks. Case in point, my sister who is in fantastic shape and is on a college swimming scholarship has huge shoulders due to the amount of swimming she does. This is typical of swimmers. Certain activities tend to build up different…
  • First, thanks for the advice. I do have health insurance and my doctors are not concerned about my weight... at all. I got complimented the last time I stepped on a scale by the nurse. This is also not about vanity (or not primarily about vanity). I looked good at 134. I am mainly looking for how people determine their…
  • Watermelon is amazing at making you feel full and is a great snack. I also eat Blue Bell's popsicles if I want something sweet.

  • @OP: From what I understand, MFP does take into account your BMR. It then takes into account your fitness level. If you don't do much during the day, then eating your BMR won't help you because you're not exercising enough to lose weight. Basically, you'll just stay the same weight- you won't gain but you won't lose. Then…
  • I wouldn't stress about it too much. I've been serious about this since Feb. (with off days now and then). And I just hit my first weight loss goal (9lbs) a week or so ago. My weight fluctuates a bit but steadily moves downward. I think when you only have a few pounds to reach an optimal weight it makes it harder to lose.…
  • Get your DHEA checked as well... I had to go on that because mine were non-existence (again due to the RA). I also was put on thyroid meds to help with fatigue (they were near the low side of normal and another side effect of RA). My energy really improved after I got on both of these as well as Vitamin D (also low) and…

  • You can always friend me =). I like having RA friends on here... it inspires me to keep going and to count the lil blessings in life
  • One of the lucky ones- my husband does all our cooking. However, I think one of the ways you can help yourself is to get more good, precooked things. A whole roasted rotisserie chicken from the grocery store can turn into sandwiches, salad topping, rice and chicken, and more. You save yourself the baking and most prep…
  • I forgot to put this earlier... for mine the calories for .3 of a bowl are 134. Protein 11. Carbs 8. Fat 6.
  • I eat there all the time... it's a comfort food and I LOVE the rice. I do rice with just a bit of the pork and a lil bit of cheese. Then I squeeze a lime over all of it. So amazing. I also only eat 1/3 to 1/2 of the bowl. You'll kick yourself if you eat all of it. Save the rest for tomorrow! =)
  • Melatonin is wonderful... but like everything, moderation is good. I've never had the nightmare symptom so I can't speak to that. However, I have also only used it to get my brain back to it's regularly scheduled maintenance of naturally produced Melatonin. My MIL (an RA) says that you can use it to "reset" your brain.…
  • Hiya! I'm Mel and I was diagnosed with RA about two years ago, although I've been living with the symptoms since middle school. I was convinced to go to the doctor by my dear husband and it has been a roller coaster ever since. I am currently on methotrexate, plaquenil, thyroid meds, and will be starting orencia next week.…
  • Thanks! I actually drink coke every day bc it keeps me from having migraines (a whole different illness, lol). Anyhow, I have noticed that the coke also helps with my nausea. I think I'll pick up some of those ginger candies too. Anything to help =)
  • Late to the game but I have RA and was diagnosed about two years ago (although I've been living with pain for years). And yeah, it SUCKS!!! I too was an athlete (swimmer, basketball, etc) but eventually the pain made it impossible to continue. Anyhow, what I can tell you is that it REALLY helps to find a great…
  • http://www.womansday.com/sex-relationships/sex-tips/8-sexy-ways-to-burn-calories-110923 Says it burns at least 144 calories for 30 minutes. =)
  • I do an elliptical machine... can't run or bike bc of my knees. In addition, I've started using the daily workout apps- particularly the ab one. Getting my core into better shape takes stress off of everything else and is a workout you can do with little impact issues.
